Inception: Allya, Mother of New Dathomir
SpoilerThe Nightsisters are, essentially, the indirect descendants of the Witches of Dathomir. So perhaps it is there, that we should start.
The inevitable demise of the Paecian Empire in 3000 BBY forced the planet of Dathomir into an ill-prepared and unexpected isolation. Any and all intergalactic connections that the planet fostered, were lost; leaving the various penal colonies of the planet to govern themselves. As a result of their solitude, any and all technological progress came to a screeching halt. In fact, society as a whole, experienced total, and rapid degradation. The once large and prosperous colonies of Dathomir fell apart, leaving behind--or perhaps giving birth to--a plethora of self-governed, independent clans more primitive than their predecessors. One of the clans being the matriarchal society that would one day grow into what would become the Witches of Dathomir.
It wasn't until 600 BBY that this unnamed collection of peoples declared a leader. This leader, the Jedi Knight named Allya, was a wayward traveller banished by the Jedi Council for a distorted understanding of the force. However she wasn't entirely without hope: though her grasp of the force was a tad bit misguided, it was prominent, and the opportunity to redeem herself was never lost from mind. It may not come as a surprise that the inhabitants Allya found were on the brink of destruction; years of being prey to a species of dominant sentients at the apex of the Dathomirian food chain had dwindled the population down. When Allya assumed leadership of the population, events were set in motion that would lead to the development of a distinctly unified culture on Dathomir, founded on the enslavement of the male population to Force-sensitive female warriors, the transformation of the rancors from predators to allies, and the authorship of the Book of Law.
Judicial diplomacy was a luxury that the society of witches were not afforded. For there was only one consequence that could be administered, one which every witch feared most: becoming an exile. Sharing the same fate enforced upon Allya. A sister could redeem herself from a transgression mild in nature, though dabbling with the Dark Side or any manipulation of "night spells" were considered too severe to come back from. It was these exiles, these societal misfits, these pariahs of the Witches of Dathomir that formed the Nightsisters.
Proceedings: The Nightsisters Motives Made Clear
Spoiler(Information brought to you in part by Wookapedia)
The Clone Wars: Sometime during the Clone Wars, a group of Nightsisters came into contact with the Sith Lord Count Dooku. This faction of dark side users were under the control of Sai Sircu and Yansu Grjak. Dooku recruited them into the Confederacy of Independent Systems to help with espionage, but their true goals were their own. They were involved in the plot to smuggle and make use of lightsaber crystals for a Separatist superweapon which made the Jedi Council aware of this new threat. They eventually betrayed Dooku and his mysterious master in part to prevent Dathomir's destruction.
Fall of the Nightsisters: After the defeat at Yavin 4, the Empire established a prison colony on Dathomir. Gethzerion aided them, tracking down escapees and renegades, hoping to obtain passage offworld. When Emperor Palpatine came to learn the true extent of Gethzerion's dark power, however, he came to fear the formidable threat she posed to him. He had all the ships stationed on Dathomir destroyed and detached a fleet group to enforce a quarantine on the planet in order to keep her grounded. The Nightsisters then took over the Imperial prison, and enslaved all the stranded Imperials stationed there, trying but failing to cobble together an escape craft.
Despite this, there were several Nightsisters, such as Silri, who apparently managed to escape this fate. They allied themselves with Tyber Zann of the Zann Consortium. The Nightsisters fought on the side of the Zann Consortium riding mighty rancors. Other escapees included Charal, who ended up on Endor.
In 8 ABY, when a number of the Rebellion's heroes were stranded on Dathomir, Gethzerion made a deal with Warlord Zsinj that in exchange for turning over Han Solo, the Nightsisters would get access to a ship so they could escape the planet. However, Zsinj double-crossed them and had two Imperial Star Destroyers fire upon their escape shuttle, killing them all.
Rebirth: Around 23 ABY, a new clan of Nightsisters was formed by Tamith Kai in the Great Canyon. This clan accepted males and treated them as equals instead of slaves, as opposite to traditional Dathomiri society. The best of the clan were sent to the Shadow Academy for more training, with the rest remaining in the Great Canyon. Unlike the traditional Nightsisters, this new clan was heavily influenced by Imperial Dark Jedi teachings and drew upon the dark side of the Force as a concept. The fate of those left behind after the Shadow Academy fell is unknown, although at least one of them, Lomi Plo, later left the planet after the Second Imperium's fall.
Within Nar' Shaada: Our story begins within the illustrious and iniquitous planet of Nar' Shaada, on one of it's most infamous moons: Little Coruscant. Having been driven out of their home planet of Dathomir, the Nightsisters were without sustenance or shelter, and in consequence, were forced under the hand of Boss Gyunchak. Initially they were employed as little more than prostitutes, engaging clientele whose prominence and taste afforded them the exotic entertainment of these very fine Dathomirians. But eventually, as their propensity for battle and ability to act on the sinister side of the force became known to Boss Gyunchak, they were sought out as sentinels for the mob-boss. They were as efficient and precise as any Droid and displayed force-sensitivity nearly on par with a Jedi Knight. Their capabilities as assassins were never questioned, though their allegiance to the boss was, and as a result they are always restrained by Gyunchak's suspicions. Being subject to Gyunchak's stringency, the Nightsister's have grown weary of his rule, and the life they have been forced to live. As days go by, and elements become more unfavorable, the prospects of liberation gain prominence within their collective minds.
Enter. . .
- You aren't required to know all the intricacies of Star Wars to be considered for a role. A general knowledge of the universe would suffice, though I must admit, I'm more intent on making this just another sci-fi story than centering on Star Wars as the arbitrary concept for our story.
- There's a strict emphasis on "advanced" being the standard I hold every candidate to. The site as a whole has a constantly fluctuating definition for "advanced", so I'll share my interpretation. As my partner, your posts should be absent of any obvious grammatical and syntax errors. You should also be capable of comprehending and utilizing details, be driven to change the plot when you see fit, and display posts adequate in quality and quantity. In all honesty, I'm not as much a stickler for this as I come off, so think of these things as preferences as opposed to requirements.
- I'm not the most punctual poster but I am considerate of your time and compensate with high-quality posts.
- While this is posted in the 1x1 section, I'm very opened to making this larger should I attract enough attention.
- Feel free to provide input at any given point in time.
- Character sheets aren't mandatory, but I will be requiring you to provide a picture at the beginning post.
- Just because this is Star Wars, don't feel compelled to choose an alien as your character. You can choose any race you want, though a human is just as acceptable.
You are, I hope, some manner of sentient creature. The galaxy is a vast and complex, interconnected highway of creatures from every vain of the imagination, and the cultures and societies that breed them are countless. The creature you choose to be is limited only by your imagination... and your ability to describe them effectively or to provide an adequate picture. I'd rather you be a Nighsister, or choose one as a side character, if your intent on being something else, which I encourage wholly. I, myself, will be playing multiple characters to ease navigation through the story. If you've any thoughts or questions, please tell me them.
