Throughout Atari's exchange with her new pokemon Nightshade, she saw multiple other trainers heading into the pokemon lab to receive their starters. Luckly none of them stopped by to chat or say hi, she wasn't the best with socializing. Looking up at the bright morning sky she took a deep breath and made the decision to start her new journey. There wasn't much point in lingering in Nuvema Town when the wild pokemon of the nearby routes beckoned to her.
"Well Nightshade, shall we depart?"
"Deino." He said, nodding in agreement. So the two set off on their journey, heading for route one to the north which would eventually take them to Accumula Town. As the quite Nuvema homes and buildings began to fade into the distance and the lush vegetation of the sea side path sprung up from the horizon Atari and Deino felt renewed by the fresh, salty air. This area was beautiful, that much was known but, what kind of pokemon would she find? Her question was soon answered as the sound of pidgey filled the air. Along the roadside, up in a tall tree she saw a group of seedot napping on a branch.
"Ah! Lovely, a seedot would be a great pokemon to test your strength on and I wouldn't mind catch one either." She turned to face her partner, "But first maybe we'll take on a pidgey or two, just so I can get to know your moves and strength a little better. What do you say friend?" The dark pokemon nodded energetically and the two jogged over to a group of pidgeys pecking at the earth for worms on the grass.
"Pidgey, my friend and I would like to battle you. Any takers? Or are you all too scared?" She knew this would provoke the leader of the pidgeys, the exact one she wanted to catch. Sure enough, a branch in a nearby tree began to rustle and a large, strong looking pidgey submerged and landed itself before them. "Pidgey!"
"Alright Nightshade, here we go. Clear your mind and use focus energy, understand?"
"Deeeino!" The dragon type planted its feet before the pidgey and closed his eyes in concentration. His body gave off a gentle glow as his mind collected his energy and amplified it throughout.
"Well done!" The pidgey leapt into the air and ran towards the mediating pokemon using tackle as its first move.
"Wait until he's closer Shade! A little closer.... Now! Dodge it! And use Dragon Rage!" At the last second the deino shifted its weight and maneuovered itself around the incoming attack, flipping around to face the pidgey's rear it released a powerful dragon rage, the attack was dazzling and when the effects cleared the pidgey not happy with the damage it had done to its feathers.
"That was amazing! Way to go Nightshade, now I want you to tackle it back!"
Nightshade nodded and began to sprint at the singed pidgey, but moments before he collided with the bird pokemon it spun around and began kicking dirt and dust up into the air. The small deino was temporarily blinded and out of the cloud of settling debris came a powerful tackle which sent Nightshade sprawling out onto the grass. He stayed down for a moment catching his breath. The pidgey seemed to be laughing at the fallen dragon type, mocking it for challenging the leader of the flock. This enraged Nightshade and fuelled his fire of determination.
"Get up Nightshade! Use Focus Energy again! Concentrate!" The pokemon obeyed, willing himself to gain strength to win this battle. As his body began to emit that same glow he felt his resolve strengthen and as the pidgey reared up for another bold tackle attack he knew exactly what had to be done.
"Now! Dragon Rage!" The two were in tune at that moment and as the first syllable slipped from his trainer's mouth, before the full command was spoken, Nightshade released a vicious dragon rage attack that caught the pidgey in it's sprint and sent it tumbling back. The level of damage was severe."Wow! Your Focus Energy made for a powerful critic blow! I'm so proud of you! That's enough now Nightshade, you've done exceptionally."
The pidgey didn't stand a chance. It never would have known that a dragon type would be showing up on these routes to battle, but it had put up a good fight. After praising her pokemon and pointing out that he needed to put his weight into his tackles she removed a potion from her bag and sprayed the healing mixture over the injured pidgey. Soon it began to recover and stood up. The bird pokemon nodded in thanks to Atari and bowed in respect to Nightshade. It then returned to the branch from whence it arrived and resumed its slumberd.
"Now, let's so find us a seedot, shall we ?"
As they walked back over to where the small seedot were playing she explained to her Deino that he needed to always concentrate on the opponent, to put his weight into his physical moves, and to never question what he's doing. He could trust her to guide him in the right direction. ["She knows alot about pokemon, I'm lucky to have such a strong trainer!"] thought the young dragon type. As they reached the tree with the seedot in it Atari called up to them.
"Which of you is the strongest? I'd like to challenge the most powerful seedot." The little pokemon ignored her completely. "Hmm, that's not going to work, I guess their're not proud pokemon. Well, okay then." She looked at Nightshade and nodded, they had the same idea, and the deino tackled the trunk of the tree lightly. It caused the upper branches to sway and one of the seedot fell to the ground, caught off guard. Atari caught the small pokemon in her arms and looked down into its eyes.
"Would you mind battling my little deino? You look very strong, I'm sure he could learn alot from you." Flattered by the compliment the seedot agreed. It skipped down to the ground and the battle was on.
"Nightshade use focus energy! Make it a good one, this guy is stronger than the pidgey!" The deino concentrated harder this time and the glow surrounding its body was brighter this time. Meanwhile the seedot used growth, it appeared and seemed to gain a more confident look. After a moment it lunged toward Atari's Deino at a surprising speed and bit down on the pokemon's neck.
"Ah! What a bite! Hold on Nightshade! I want you to tackle that tree again, angle your neck towards the trunk!" The pokemon obeyed and slammed its mass into the tree trunk, effectively pinning the seedot and triggering a release.
"Now use Dragon Rage!" The seedot flashed silver and it was clear it was using harden just in the nick of time. Nightshade's attack landed but didn't do near the damage it should have. The grass pokemon stood up and lunged at the deino again, going for another bite attack.
"Quick! Tackle it in the air! Let it bite you and come down on it!"
['Uh, let it bite? Okay..."] Said the deino before executing the command. Sure enough the seedot latched on and deino landed full force on top the pokemon. Nightshade was a sturdy pokemon and it was clear the tactic had done damage. However, Nightshade was taking a fair bit of damage himself from the multiple bites, and then from landing on a pokemon that had used harden. This battle needed to be wrapped up.
"Alright now finish it up with dragon rage!"
"Deiiiiii no!" Cried the pokemon and released another astonishing pulse. The seedot was hit full on, in the middle of a harden and the effects were devastating. It struggled to get up but collapsed to the ground.
"Perfect, you're a strong pokemon. I'd like you on my team seedot." She selected an empty pokeball from her satchel and threw it at the injured pokemon. Excitement filled her as she watched the blinking pokeball rock back and forth.
"You did amazing Nightshade, and you have a new friend! Today has been perfect, this would be icing on the cake, eh friend?"
