"Get out of here, Stalker."

I would like to start up a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. role play, as the title says, and was curious if anyone else might be up for joining me. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a series of video games and books that are loosely based on the classic novel Roadside Picnic and the film Stalker. It's a very grim and gritty setting that puts a heavy focus on survival in a very hostile environment called the Zone. This roleplay would take place in the game series and most likely would be set during Shadow of Chernobyl. A link to the description of the game is here.
There would be the usual factions involved; Duty, Freedom, Loners, Bandits, Mercenaries, Scientists, and Monolith. Since I'd like to focus on characterization Monolith most likely wont be a playable choice, but with the right background any of the others would be open to choose from and you'd be free to suggest something else if you wanted. Whatever you decide, the character will have to face consequences. For example, a single Duty member might not get along with a group of Freedomers, and vice versa.
This is planned to be fairly realistic. These people are not superheroes and they don't have any special powers. Chances are they are poor outcasts who scavenge the Zone for artifacts to sell or vodka to drink. If your character is shot, he should act like hes been shot. If he doesn't get to a doctor then there's a good chance he could die. Water and food is needed on occasion and if the character has been very active then he should be tired. Basically, a bit of survival role play would be ideal. Mutants will show up, as well as bandits and other normal dangers of the Zone. Expect action and shootouts to be common. Anomalies of all types exist and Blowouts might happen once a day or so. It's possible for your character, or any other characters in the story, to die. Though, player characters will only die if they give permission.
As for weapons, nothing breaks immersion more than someone who has to bring in something incredibly overpowered or something that doesn't make any sense to be in the Zone. If it isn't something reasonable that might belong there, then chances are it isn't a good idea to bring it into the RP. Preferably weapons and other equipment should be plausible to be found in the Zone, or better yet taken directly from the games. A list of the in-game weapons can be found here.
Now characters and their backgrounds are open for you to make basically what you want to make. Common for the Zone are criminals looking to hide from the law, ex-military, mercenaries, poachers, and possibly just the simple person trying to just make some money. Most common nationalities would be Ukrainian or Russian, but people come from all over for various reasons. There could be language barriers if your character doesn't know Ukrainian or Russian. There aren't many females in the Zone, and the ones who are there are likely keeping themselves covered up, but female characters are allowed so long as they are played realistically. I imagine that the RP would start up based off of the characters backgrounds, allegiances, and current "Zone professions."
As for reply length and such, I don't expect a novel. So long as you get the point across and we can all understand each other then there's no need to dig out a thesaurus to help you describe how "gentle gusts of wind blow the radioactive air through your long, flowing hair while your sea foam green eyes sparkle in the golden sunlight." I imagine this has been done and I find it sounds silly, especially when we're in what is essentially a death zone. I feel there's no need for anyone to sit there with a thesaurus trying to pad out your post just to make it seem like you've written far more than you actually have. Unless you want to do that, then have at it. I'm not going to stop you.
If there's anyone out there who's interested in participating in this please do let me know either by replying to the thread or PMing me. So far I have some ideas of how to start and one person on board with this, we just need a few more people to get this started up. I'm open to any questions you might have as well.
