Sword Art Online (Those Left Behind)
Welcome to Sword Art Online. You know, the really popular Light Novel Series and Anime about people trapped in a VRMMORPG for like 2 years? I really like the show, and my favorite part is the first portion of the series. So, that’s where this RP takes place! Let’s do this again, but a little more serious now:
Welcome to Sword Art Online!
You were one of the lucky 10,000 users to get a copy of SOA on launch day, and upon logging in, you’ve found that you’re unable to log out. But why? Kayaba Akihiko, creator of Sword Art Online and of the NerveGear, has trapped the 10,000 players in the world of Aincrad. There are two ways out: die in the game, and you die in real life, or climb the world tower to the 100th floor and defeat the final boss.
This is a story of a group of new players, who band together in an unlikely circumstance. They have their own reasons for playing the game, and their own reasons for wanting to leave. But, if they are going to survive in this world, they have to work together. There’s no room for solo players and beaters in this story.
My goal for the story would be for it to span the early months of the game, and follow into the two year span of the adventures in SOA. The story would begin a few months into the game, after the first few floors have been cleared. Some characters may already be in a party, others may have been working solo for some time; and some may have come into tragedy on their journey. The point of the RP is less “we must beat the final boss” and more “these people are trapped in a virtual world and this is their life now, until they can escape”.
One fun thing from SOA is the skill system; there are an unlimited number of skills to learn, from cooking to smithing to being a merchant, and many of the characters in the show operate jobs on the side of their adventures. So of course, your character will have a set of skills as well. A list of skills from the manga and anime can be found here: http://swordartonline.wikia.com/wiki/Skills. You can also come up with your own skills, as long as it fits the setting and isn’t ridiculous.
There is one special skill in the story that few characters have: unique skills. None of our characters will ever have these game breaking skills, due to canon (only 2 players ever had them) and to fairness of the plot. The same goes with special weapons: early in the game most of the weapons will be “iron sword” “steel mace” etc. We will not walk around with Excalibur and the Dragon Slayer for the early months.
The manga/anime left a LOT of Aincrad unexplored in the story, and I really want to take advantage of this to craft a fun and original story for the characters. Completely original floors, boss battles and other things will occur, and we don’t have to worry about canon junk.
I'm shooting for this to be a mid to high casual roleplay. In a nutshell, it means a paragraph or two of description, action and/or dialog, and a sense of knowing the scene and such. I know that the anime is really popular now, (and i'm waaay behind compared to most people) but I want to make this creative and well written. I’ll answer any questions about stuff, but I’ll leave a character sheet thing here as well if you want to get your creative gears going:
Character level(Since this is the early months, character level should be between 10-20)
Appearance: (Apart from editable things like hair color, the characters look like their real life selves. The only difference is armor and clothing in game)
Weapon Type: (Sword and shield, two handed sword, axe, etc. Feel free to add in weapons, as long as they work with the lore of the world)
Skills: (Max 6 skills for the beginning of the story)
Biography: (Who are they outside the game? What are their hopes, dreams, etc. What is waiting for them outside the game?)
Oh, and the name? Why does it mean that? Well, it's simple! These are characters who are basically behind the main characters for most of the story. Even in situations where they may help defeat a boss, they aren't heroes or great warriors, and they aren't magically the hero of the story because of reaction time or some stupid reasoning. They're people who have families and friends outside the game, and they want to get back to them.
So, let me know if you're interested!
