The IC is up: http://roleplayerguild.com/showthrea...49#post9588849
The lull of the ocean movements had no effect on you as the small boat made its way across the waves. While most people were relaxed and enjoying the sea breeze, you couldn't help but feel a tightness in your stomach, like something was about to go wrong. As if on cue, as thoughts of tragedy flashed through your mind, the boat seized to the left, veering off course and violently heading in the wrong direction. "Hey! This isn't the way!" You hear many of the other passengers call out to the captain, but encased in that glass room, his sinister face showed no signs of hearing the pleas. With worry and anger splashed across their faces, the passengers went to one another for comfort and solace, leaving only a few lone people to themselves. These people were the targets. These people were the ones in danger. These people were why the boat came to a sudden crash.
With no lighthouse circling a beam of light through the fog, the boat collided brutally against a wall of sharp, jagged rocks, causing the other passengers to go flying from the boat on to land. The captain's body shattered through the glass of the boat's captain's quarters and snapped against one of the rocks, his limbs immediately falling limp and with a sickening crack, plummeted in to the roaring ocean below. Dizzily looking around at the other surviving passengers, you noticed the only others to still be alive were those who you could tell had the same gut wrenching feeling as you did. But why? How did they survive? Scanning your surroundings, your eyes finally land on a rotting metal sign, the letters just barely visible through the thick fog. Squinting your eyes you slowly read "Welcome to Rift Island" and your heart drops at the distant familiarity of it. You swallow the lump that has formed in your throat and bring your attention back to the other survivors, something was wrong with this island and there was a reason they were all there. But what was it?
WELCOME TO RIFT ISLAND, EVERYBODY!
That introduction was a bit longer than I had originally anticipated, but it was fun writing it (also I haven't written in a long time). ANYWAY, right off the bat, I want to mention that I started as RP a while back on this website that is quite similar to this one, but unfortunately that one never took off. This one will have its differences, as the players are also new, but I will mix up a few things.
As the introduction mentioned, we were all on a passenger boat going to some location until the boat suddenly changed course and crashed! The only survivors of the crash are us, and there is a reason why we're all there, a reason the island called us to its shore. Through this RP we will find out why as well as go through all the crazy goodness that goes along with it.
The island itself will have a Silent Hill-esque feel to it: thick fog, old buildings, pit of your stomach feeling that you're always being watched. Don't worry, you don't have to had actually played any of the games to do this RP. I don't want to do a zombie apocalypse, but the island will be in a state of post apocalypse mess, and the residents that are still on the island can be zombie-like, but aren't actually zombies. They can attack you, run, open doors, etc, but if you're bitten or scratched or something of the like, you will not turn in to a zombie. Something happened to the town and its people to make them like this. Some residents will be more calm that you can talk to, but will generally have a demeanor of "get the hell off this island or I'll kill you." I'm still working out some kinks, but I wanted to get this RP started ASAP and totally encourage all of you to shoot me some ideas and the like, I'm all ears.
This is a completely open map (as was my the last RP that was similar to this). This means there really are no set locations or buildings (unless I say otherwise). You want a library, make a library, you want a convenience store, you know the drill. Have fun with it!
Now on to the good stuff.
-Rules are as usual.
-This is casual, so I want to see at least paragraph long posts (unless you're in a conversation with someone, but then maybe it might be best to bring it to PMs then post the entire conversation in a single post)
-I allow and, quite frankly, encourage romance. While not necessary, it adds more dimension to the characters, as well as the story. If things get seriously hot and heavy, let's keep that to PMs please
-Things can/will get bloody/gory/etc. and foul language will be used (though at a minimum, please).
-If I come up with more rules or anything, I'll post them here.
Name: your character's name
Gender: are they male or female
Age: any age including and older than 16
Appearance: what they look like, description or actual picture, either is fine
Personality: *optional, what is this person like? I'd like at least a very minimal description, though you could offer nothing in order to keep up the anonymity of your character
History: *optional, you can either tell us limited information about their background, or keep it hidden to be revealed in the RP
Misc.: any other information you want to put but couldn't categorize it in one of the other categories.
I'm limited each player to two characters and no more. Unless there's a limited number of people who join this RP, I think having any more than 2 would get to be too much for everyone. Also, you can kill off one of your characters (or both if you intend to leave the RP). Secondary/other characters can be introduced later in the RP. Residents of the island are open to be characters.
I think that's it. Any questions, feel free to post here or send me a PM. I'll probably be updating this or posting all the time with other rules/ideas, so keep checking. Thanks!
