A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...
Star Wars: Galaxy at War - Remnant of the Empire
It is a dark time for the galaxy. The Galactic Imperial Alliance, is on the verge of collapse at the hands of a shadowy merciless and ruthless foe from beyond the outer-rim. Heroes and villains on all sides fight for what they believe in, little knowing that they are merely pawns in a far greater plan.
Unknowingly following this plan; Sith Lord DARTH SEAR, twisted by his feelings for a young woman long lost to his past, and conflicted by his conscience between the Jedi he was and the Sith he became, has has plunged the Hastrin system into chaos to serve his own empty blood lust- abandoned by the alliance he once served, as a Jedi Knight.
At their main facility on Hoth, a weary commander of the Imperial Alliance fleet turns to his fellow officers in a bid to find out their next best course of action in light of their shattering defeat against an unknown enemy. Meanwhile, a small Alliance salvage team approaches the Danzig system, to salvage the remains of the ALLIANCE flagship, the Dark Blade, in hopes that the recovery of the once proud warship will boost the moral of the dying Empire...

Location - Outer-rim - Hoth System
Within the pin-pricked darkness of space, hung three wedge shaped Instigator class Star Destroyers, orbiting high above the ice planet of Hoth. The blue-white ice fields of the frozen world glistened in the systems star light, and to any observer that was present on those ships, even at the great distance from the planet, it would be a beautiful sight.
The crew of these ships didn't currently have the time for sight-seeing, and were hard at work preparing the three warships for what ever duties they had been assigned.
The Instigator class was based on the Imperator class of destroyer commonly referred to as the Imperial class due to it's mass productions and wide use during the time of the Empire and it's association. The Imperator was known to have many flaws and defects that should have negated its role as a combat, which had cost the lives of thousands of crew-men over the years. The Instigator class was an attempt by the Galactic Imperial Alliance to counter and indeed remove the flaws of the original design.
After nearly fifteen years of trial and error they finally came up with a suitable design plan. Alliance engineers fabricated a Star Destroyer using shield designs by the Mon-Calamari, with the inclusion of secondary shield emitters feeding directly off the reactor on the underside, which allowed for more flexibility in how shields could be used and being able to give greater protection to areas where the shields were initially brought down. In addition they lowered the bridge tower considerably to make it easier to provide uniform shield and hull protection. They removed the shield domes from the design, and added in new shield emitters aft of the bridge where anti-fighter protection was highest, and had greater hull protection. The hyperwave transceiver coils for supralight active sensors which had been mounted in the domes were reinstalled flatter to the hull here the domes had been. At one point five kilometres long (though the length of the design has varied from one point four to as high as two kilometres in the past), and boasting no-more than eight dorsal barbette heavy guns, one hundred and twenty heavy turbolaser and turbolaser cannons, thirty light repeating-laser 'anti-fighter' batteries, dozens of missile launch tubes, a variable complement of ion cannons entirely dependant on ship-role and design, in addition to improved targeting computers, and more refined engines, the Instigator was a formidable ship.
On the bridge of one of the Star Destroyers, named the Vassisk's Bane, Admiral Marcell was reading a report that a rather twitchy and nervous tech had just handed him. The Admiral was smiling as he responded calmly, to each point, "remember these are new ships, straight off the line, their shake-downs will always have problems crop up, so if you discovered a systems glitch in the fire suppression system, don't throw a panic just because a few rooms were filled with fire suppression foam, better than an engine core going critical due to a coolant failure. Find the root of the problem and fix it, Lieutenant." He handed the datapad back to the tech, and sat down in the captains chair as the tech nodded saluted and hurried off.
"New crew," the admiral sighed.
"I know what you mean," Captain Inos agreed, "I remember what I was like when I was recruited into the Alliance as a junior officer, I didn't know how my superiors would react to my reports, I always expected the worse."
The Admiral smiled, and glanced over to the ships captain. "You did well enough, no-one was in the business of strangling, and look at you now." He carefully caressed his greying short beard.
The Captain's smile almost shined as bright as his policed rank cylinders. "My first command..." His voice was filled with pride, as he turned to watch the busy bridge crew getting used to their new ship and their new posts. "Thank you for coming aboard for this inspection, sir."
"Don't mention it, we need some good to happen after these passed few years." The Admiral had been with the Alliance since very near the beginning, hailing from the Emperor's old order, he appreciated how things needed to be changed. "I will be leaving in an hour however, some business with our droid loving friends."
Inos nodded, and smiled. "I see. It was sad to hear."
"Indeed." Marcell said slowly, before he straightened his uniform and leaned forward while giving a small chuckle. "We'll be fine I'm sure."

Location - Deep Core - Danzig System
Deep in the core systems, a small blue dwarf star glowed, it's radiant blue energy filling the near-by space with light. In an elliptical orbit around the third planet of this dead system; hung a dagger shaped Instigator class Star Destroyer, it's hull blackened and scarred and appearing to be in disarray. It's running lights occasionally flickered, and odd pockets of gas escaped some of the damaged portions of the stricken warship.
A Lambda-class shuttle approached this vessel, heading for the hanger bay, there-abouts on the command tower almost to the bridge.
The shuttle passed through the outer hull, heading into the hanger, without the usual pop of the mag-con field. Once inside the hanger, the shuttles emergency scatter lights came on, lighting up torn bulk head and blackened hull, as well as parts of TIE fighters and X-wings, along with a few bodies on the deck, still and quite dead. The gravity plates appeared to be working however and the shuttle settled to the clearest piece of deck it could locate, away from the debris.
The whine of the Ion engines subsided as they powered down, and there was a moment of tense silence for the vacuum suited Stormtroopers as they lowered the ramp, which forced the air in the shuttle to rush out with a hiss closely followed by a subdued muffledness of the sounds in the thin air. The squad all switched on their chronomatic light emitters on their weapons, wrists, shoulders and helmets at the hand motion from the squad leader. "Lets move."

"Admiral Marcell?!" A voice called up from the crew-pit of the Vassisk's Bane, "you asked to be informed when the Continuum arrived with the scout fleet?" The voice informed.
It was a short while later, and Admiral Marcell had just-about finished his inspection of the Vassisk's Bane, he waited a moment breathing in as he heard the voice from where he was standing at the rear command station, glancing to the ship's captain for a moment who was stood beside him with an almost amused amused expression on his face, the Admiral finally turned after the junior officer finished relaying the information. "Yes?" the Admiral asked, letting his wizened voice carry through the din of the bridge activity with experience.
As Marcell's view encompassed the bridge forward view-ports, he could just make out the distant wedge-shape of the Continuum, and her support fleet beyond the security net, and already could see the Nebula class Star Destroyer had broken formation, and was heading at a casual pace towards the Vassisk's Bane, as per it's current orders.
The voice continued; "well, they've arrived sir, and have sent a signal. The captain offers greetings and invites you on-board, to depart when ready."
Marcell brushed a lock of grey hair behind his cap, and grumbled something under his breath, before turning to Inos. "Have your duty officer see to it, that the man who relayed the information to me just now, is punished for not following standard procedures, this is after all not a cattle market in Shaum Hii. In any case, afterwards put that man in charge of making sure non-combat bridge regulations are followed."
"Yes, Admiral." The Captain nodded to the duty officer who had been standing at attention a short distance behind, nearer the holo-terminal, who made a mental note, returned the nod and left in search of the man. "It will be done, sir."
"She is a fine ship, Inos, and I expect you to take care of her." Marcell smiled, and turned back to the station he was at reading the rest of the message that he had received a few minutes prior. "Good luck."
"Thank you, sir. May the Force be with you."
Marcell gave the younger man a stern look up and down at his sentence, almost as if he were re-evaluating the man's Captaincy; finally a smile crept onto his lips and his blue eyes softened. "Is luck not good enough for you?"
Inos half laughed, responding in a joking manner. "No, sir. No, it isn't." The pair exchanged glances, and Captain Inos saluted his farewell to the Admiral.
Welcome to Star Wars: Galaxy at War, an Alternate Universe set within the Star Wars mantra. If anyone is interested this is a tester to see if the idea is any good.
Ideas welcome, it is based off the final end to a previous RP from a different forum.
You can play as a faction (of your own creation) with a fleet or a single character such as a Bounty Hunter or Gun for Hire etc., brought about in the power vacuum created by the war that has left the Galactic Alliance reeling with no definitive winner, good or bad.
I will need a lot of help to get this going. Since this is set in my version of the Star Wars Galaxy I will have final say on how technology works so don't worry about being bogged down in the technical details.
Please do not hesitate to discuss ideas for this game here also, I'd like to hear what you guys would like from a Star Wars game.
