This illustration is a fantastic analogy as to what would probably happen if people in our world were to gain supernatural abilities. They would not be capable of conforming to an ideal, exert their power for the greater good, or know how to combat the entire world due to some twisted desire for world domination. In this day and age of information and social media, realistic ‘superheroes’ would become celebrities, which would indulge in sponsorship, commercials, brands, and walking the red carpet. They would adopt the image of well-known comic book heroes, trade their power for currency, and change the nature of politics and war by intervening for the right price.
There is a reason why Superman is an alien: no ordinary human could ever push themselves to live by such an ideal, to repress their most primal instincts, and to become flawless. However, what if they had to? What if the people in our world who gained these incredible powers were put to the test? What if they had to sacrifice everything in order to become what they are because of what they are? The world would certainly have an abundant presence of superheroes taking advantage of their nature, that is, villains. But, at some point, someone would have to say stop, enough. We have been given a chance to become a fraction of our creator, what gives us the right to abuse that chance? This could possibly be a story for this setting.
I have no plans of starting a roleplay like this, at this time. I simply want to see if there are others out there who have thought about this, in this way, and to see if we would be a good fit—have a decent discussion about other things that could happen in addition to what I have described here.
What are your thoughts on this?
