Book One: Reconstruction
(Within Raphael’s castle located at the Edge of the Earth)
“Where is he, where is that coward!” A young man with black hair and a dark coat, exiting from a darkened corridor yelled out, as he walked on a long dark hallway within a black castle, low light was radiating from small lit candles hanging on chandeliers from the ceiling. As the young man continued walking down the hall, a giant door came into view as well as a middle age man with silver hair and his eyes closed, leaning against it. Approaching closer to the door and the man, the black hair boy yelled, “Out of my way Witch, I need to speak with that bastard!” “Now now, that’s no way to talk about your king, and superior”, the silver hair man said as he looked up at the boy with a smirk across his face. “Filthy Witch, you are not my superior now this is the last time, get the fuck out of my way before I…” The boy’s sentence was cut off, as his throat began to swell up and he began to gasp for air. Raising his hand, the sliver haired man replied, “I’m sorry what was that? Come on speak up, what Witch got your tongue? You stupid boy, I should kill you right now for your ignorance”.
“Enough Zalden, let him go”, a voice behind Zalden said as the giant doors closed behind him. “Hmmm, oh it’s you, man why do you have to spoil my fun. (Sigh) Fine”, Zalden replied as he lowered his hand and in doing so, the black haired boy fell to the ground gasping, trying to balance the air ways within his body. Regaining the ability to inhale and exhale, the young man stood back up and locked eyes with Zalden, “You bastard”. He then turned his sights on the new comer whose face was being hidden by a hood. “And who the hell are you? Where is Raphael I need to speak with him?” “The King has no time for the likes of you, what do you want boy?” The hooded man replied. “What are you kidding me? He has been gone for a week and he has left our troops without a leader. The rest of the Dragon Lords are becoming wearier, and the other races are thinking of disbanding all together”. The young man continued, “He has been hiding from all of us since our defeat in Dragons Reach, even though we were able to defeat the Order, we must attack again now before they are able to reclaim their numbers.”
As Zalden listened to the black haired man talk, he couldn’t help but laugh at what he was saying, “Hahaha, are you serious, the others had a problem with Raphael so they sent a mere boy to confront him and deal with it. I should go down there and make sure that our troops stay in their place. Bunch of good for nothing...” “Zalden enough”, the hooded man exclaimed. “Yeah yeah whatever you say boss,” Zalden replied as he continued to mummer something to himself. The hooded man walked towards the boy and laid a hand on his shoulder, “You do not need to worry, our troops will not be left without a leader any longer. Right now our king needs rest; the battle with the High Dragon Lord took a lot out of him so he cannot fill that part right this moment. However, he has assigned me the task to lead our troops”. The Hooded man continued as he began to point the way the boy came, “go now boy, let the others know that there is a leader to fight for, and his name is ATER ANGELUS”. The boy looked at the hooded man with no expression, then he turned his head and replied, “Fine”. He bowed in front of the hooded man and continued with an angry tone, “As you wish…..my lord”, and then he began to run off the way he came.
“So you finally came up with a name for yourself”, Zalden continued as he faced Ater. “ATER ANGELUS, hmmm, Dark Angel, that is quite the fitting name for some one of your situation is it not?” Ater turned and faced Zalden looking at him without saying a word. Then he faced the hallway and began to walk away. However, not before stopping in his tracks and replying to the Witch, “ the king has a special assignment for you”. The Witch looked at him with a surprised face, “Oh does he now? I just love when he sends me out to do the dirty work.” Zalden continued as he cracked his fingers, “well don’t leave me in suspense what is it dragon boy?” Zalden asked with a cocky expression on his face. Ater drew his blade and pointed it straight at the witches throat, “What did I tell you about calling me that you fucken Witch!” Ater yelled out. “Right, sorry boss, no need for violence right, we don’t want to get Raphael angry.” Zalden replied, while putting a finger on the sword and moving it away slowly. Ater put his sword back within its sheath, he then walked a bit closer to Zalden and said, “ Raphael wants you to find the Book of Souls. He has a plan but he needs that book to carry it out.”
“The Book of Souls?" Zalden replied with a shocked expression and continued, “That book goes back to the days of old. It won't be an easy find where do you suggest I look?”. Ater began to walk away as he replied, “I do not know that is your job to figure out. You could ask our spy in the Order. The Order holds records of old artifacts after all.”
(After Prologue 3)
"Castiel, you cannot blame yourself for that. You didn't know that he would return the way he did.” Grim Fang replied as he looked the young man. Castiel turned and looked at his dragon and smiled, he then began to approach him. Laying a hand on his head and petting him, Castiel replied, "Now let’s go, I know you came looking for me because Ogam asked you to didn't you?" Grim Fang nodded as Cas continued ", but before we go back to the Order… I need to go to the city, and see how everyone is doing”. Grim Fang nodded his head and lowered his neck. Cas grabbed on his dragon’s horn and launched himself into the air landing on the back of his dragon. Grim Fang then began to flap his wings with so much force; He launched up into the air and flew towards the destroyed city of Dragon Reach.
As the destroyed city came into view, Cas yelled out, “Grim Fang don’t land in the city; I don’t want the town’s people to think that there is going to be another attack, just land somewhere outside the gates if you please.” “As you wish,” Grim Fang replied. Landing on the outskirts of the city, Castiel jumped off the back of his dragon, and as he did Grim Fang began to glow a bright golden color, shrinking to his chick form. Finishing with his transformation, the small dragon jumped onto the Lords shoulder. Castiel looked ahead at the destroyed town with a blank expression, "Lets go" Castiel whispered to himself as he walked into Dragon Reach. Within the city, the buildings were in ruin and the streets bathed in dry blood. People around the city were digging through the ruble trying to find their pre existing loved ones and any survivors. People were crying for the losses of friends and family, children were left alone clutching to the dead bodies of their parents. Cas tried his best to not show emotion, to not shed a tear, but the site was too depressing. Cas stopped in his tracks and lowered his head in shame and regret. Grim Fang looked at his brother with a worried face. Noticing a tear falling from his face, the small dragon licked it away and rubbed his head on Castiel’s face, comforting him. A small smile escaped from Castiel's lips as he looked at his dragon and scratched his head, saying in a low voice, “thanks Grim Fang”.
Continuing on walking through the city, Cas reached its edge. Upon the city’s exit there is a long path that goes up a giant and beautiful mountain with its peak hiding within the clouds. In the beginning of the path there is a sign, which reads:
Along this path lies the city of old, the once proud city of Bronze Sword that was once a place for revolution, now a place of peace, order, and knowledge. Climb the mountain if you wish to unravel the power within. Only those brave and strong enough can surpass the trials that nature has against the human body, mind and soul…
“Hmm, that sign has been standing strong ever since the days of legend. How has it I wonder?” Castiel asked himself as he observed the sign. “Alright Grim Fang let’s get to Dracia, Ogam will be waiting”. Grim Fang jumped off of Cas’es shoulder, and as he did he began to grow in size. Castiel quickly jumped on the dragons back, as Grim Fang pushed off and flew up to the heavens, heading towards the peak of the mountain. Flying higher and higher, passing through big cluster of clouds, Castiel held on tight to his dragon’s neck as they picked up speed. The young man trying his best to withstand the drastic temperature drop and pressure, due to their elevation, held his dragon tighter as they passed through the last giant cloud. The sun began to shine brightly on their backs. Grim Fang and Castiel began regain some warmth within their bodies, Cas then looked down and saw the mountain top with the small Order’s city resting on its peak.
Descending on to the Order’s grounds, Castiel Jumped off the young dragon’s back, in doing so Grim Fang changed back into his small chick form and perched on the young lord’s shoulder. Viewing the sites of the Order’s entrance, the giant tile floor with a path leading towards a giant temple with big stone pliers holding it firmly in place. “It is good to be home,” Cas murmured to himself. Walking towards the temple, Castiel noticed an old man looking at him with a stern look on his face. Castiel looked into the old man’s eyes with a scared and shocked expression. He then knelt down on one knee and looked straight down to the ground and said, “I’m sorry Ogam, please do not be angry with me”. Ogam cleared his thought and replied with a serious tone, “I told you we had a meeting with the remain survivors of this Order a week ago. Do you not understand we are in the verge of war,” “ I know, I am sorry Ogam, please let us resume with the meeting, summon the other sages and ill meet all of you in the meeting room”. Castiel stated as he continued to look down. “Very well, you better not pull another disappearing act on me Cas”. Ogam continued, “oh and another thing,” the old wizard pulled out a sword from his rob, “catch”. Castiel looked up and quickly caught the sword with his right hand, “This is...” “Yes it is, it's the Lord of Lights sword. Next time you decide you no longer wont the title High Dragon Lord, don’t! What happened to Dragon Reach and the members of the Order had nothing to do with the choices you made. If you haven’t spoken out I would have, just like you, Raphael was like a son to me”. Ogam stated, interrupting Castiel. Cas stood up and looked at the sword, with a light smile, he tied the sword on to his waist. He then looked up, and began to walk passed Ogam, replying, “Well what are you waiting for Ogam. Summon the other Sages, I’ll be in the meeting room waiting,” “Very well, as you wish my lord,” Ogam replied with a light bow, and then he began to walk off to another section of the temple. Castiel began to walk the way Ogam came, as he continued walking, he whispered, “Thank you, Father Ogam”.
Entering the meeting room, Castiel looked around the lifeless space. The giant room held eight big thrones forming a circle. With each throne, a symbol on top of it showed which element sat where. Cas approached the throne that held the symbol of light and took a seat. As he did, Grim Fang jumped from his shoulder to his lap and fell into a deep sleep. Smiling at his little dragon, Cas began to scratch his small belly. He then began to look at the other empty seats, “It seems like it was only yesterday that all the Lords were sitting here, and Raphael was standing in the center of this circle, as he was being judged". Cas said to himself falling into a small trans, reliving his memories. However, he soon snapped out of it once the sound of someone entering the room, caused him to sit up in his seat. Ogam entered the room alone closing the door behind him, and then he entered the center of the circle. “Uhmm, Ogam, where are the other sages?” Castiel asked with a confused look on his face. Ogam looked at Cas with a blank expression and replied, “I am sorry, the other sages used up to much of their life energy in the battle in Dragon Reach. They were resting but it was too much. They are no longer with us, I am sorry”. A shocked expression formed on Castiel’s face, as he looked down to the ground, once again blaming himself for everything that has happened. “However…” Ogam continued, and once he spoke Cas looked straight at him, eager to hear good news. “Dante the Sage of Darkness is still with us, he is currently running late. I knocked at his quarters and told him about this meeting, he replied saying that he is having a little trouble regaining balance but he shall join us shortly.” “I see, at least we did not lose everyone, now what is it that we need to discuss?” Castiel asked as his shocked expression turned blank and serious. “Very well, since the attack on Dragon Reach the other races believe we are no longer fit to be the protectors of this world. Most of the Witch Covens have given our enemy their full support and there is a civil war forming between the humans about what side they should support. And on top of that our Order is weak. With just you and two sages, as well as no alliances, we do not have the means to go to war let alone protect ourselves.” Ogam replied. Castiel laid his elbow on the arm rest of his throne; resting his head on his fist and said, “Hmm, what your saying is true, however Raphael’s forces are still not prepared for an attack. I made sure of it during our battle in Dragon Reach. Raphael is weak at this moment plus he does not have an amulet, so he won’t dare to launch another attack or start a war unless he is prepared. But you are right, we still need to recover the Order and build an alliance. What do you have in mind Ogam?” Clearing his throat, Ogam replied, “I have acquired information that new Dragon Masters are appearing in an accelerating rate. It seems like the dragons know something big is coming and they want to prepare the world for it. Also we have gotten reports that the Lycans and the Dark Ones are migrating from their sanctuaries to highly populated areas. With all this going on we need to act on it. We need to rebuild the Order as well as get the lycans and the Dark Ones on our side.” Castiel grabbed Grim Fang and held him like an infant as the small dragon continued to sleep. He then stood up and walked towards the door, “Then it’s settled, I need to find the masters and with their help rebuild the Order. Once I find them and shown them the way of becoming a Dragon Lord, then we shall meet with the leaders of each of the two dark races coven's and discus an agreement”. Cas continued, “After this day everything is going to change Ogam, this might as well be the beginning of the end. Let’s just hope this old world won't die on us before this coming war is over”. Castiel walked out the door with his sleeping baby dragon in his arms. As he walked out of the temple, with the sun blasting on his face, Grim Fang awoke from his little nap, “why good morning sleepy head it’s about time you’ve woken up”. Cas said with a smile to the little dragon and continued, “I was wondering when you would wake, we have a lot of things to do. I hope you rested well, because we will not have a good rest for a long while”.
