Just a reminder, we are actively looking for submissions from you, the members of RPG. If you want to write an article, an editorial, show off a drawing of a Roleplay inspired piece or even make a comic, we would love to use it in our newsletter! Just PM any of the Comrades your submission.
Every now and then, a roleplay hits an achievement that roleplayers are proud of. Whether it is an anniversary, completion, or even something has simple as post count, they need to be celebrated. This week we have Naruto: The New Generation which is GMed by the graceful Gerontis and has just had its One year anniversary. Is it the wild Ballet that keeps it running or the engaging Polls found in the OOC? Whatever the magic, a one year anniversary is something to be celebrated. Congratulations to all the particpants!
Naruto: The New Generation is a roleplay that focuses around a new generation of ninja after the first great shinobi war. How they would change the future, be it to prevent another war, or to win the next one altogether. The roleplay is one of the most successful Naruto-based roleplays on the site, and is still steadily going forwards. However, this month, the 13th of August, the roleplay has become 1 year old. Not only that, but we're steadily going towards the 2500 post marker too! In the IC we have reached the point where we are preparing for the next 'new' generation, with the older characters that have survived slowly becoming veterans. We hope to reach the 2 year milestone without a problem!
Of course this doesn't mean that nobody can join, as we still have a long way to go. That is why we're still growing as new members join the story with their own characters. Growing and training as the story progress. We're very proud of our RP and hope we can share our succes with more people as we continue.
Want to be featured for a RP Milestone? Take a look at your roleplay and see if it fits any of these criteria:
- It was recently completed.
- It has celebrated a year anniversary recently or will sometime in the next six months.
- The IC has recently hit it's 500th or 1,000th post mark. This can also be 1,500, 2,000, etc.
If your roleplay has reached any of these milestones, or if you think your roleplay has reached a certain achievement that is not listed, please don't hesitate to PM Lillian with the link to the roleplay and a description of the achievement. If you are not the GM, but wish to surprise the GM, that can also be arranged. Happy Roleplaying!
The Player's Voice
We've all been there, wanting to post in a RP and not being able to because that one player hasn't posted. What is a player with limited time to do? Is it solely the purview of the GM to prod slow players, or is it something that fellow players can or should do?
Do you feel it is appropriate to tell another player when they are holding a story up or falling behind? Is that the GM’s role only and as a player do you feel comfortable mentioning it to the GM?
As a GM, I feel it may be necessary from time to time. I'd also like to get a gauge from my players as to their thoughts on the pacing of a story's progression story-wise and post-rate wise. I'd rather other players discuss their issues on pacing through me, there is the danger that it could devolve into general harassment if they go directly to the player themselves. I've seen this occur on numerous occasions on other RP sites and watched it become pointless bickering that becomes toxic to the RP Group.
Hhmm, I think it's the duty of the player him or herself to put up some energy. A GM has to focus the time and what not he or she has on the active players, those who try to continue the story by trying to be part of it. If a player knows or expects that it will be less active, it should contact the GM(s) and not simply rely on that the GM will continue to chase their lazy pants. I'm experienced with it, cause I first went to chase after inactive people. Now these days I simply just replace them with new or active people.
It has always been something I try to do : reward the active ones or those who try to warn you when something is going to slow them down, instead of wasting energy to those who remain inactive etc. over long times.
I think so, however, the GM also has to accept the consequences of that. It may not seem fair, but supply and demand may be in full effect in a small roleplay. Sometimes a limited number of players strengthens the group and other times liberties may be taken, because everyone wants to avoid dropouts. A similar principle may apply for players with important characters. The only real advice for this is to make sure you have a large, or a strong, group of players so that you are not afraid to remind someone to post.
The Question for next week is: When you begin an RP do you have a sense of an end of the story or do you see it as something that will come if the story lasts?
Please PM your response to Lillian. Feel free to suggest questions as well!
Remember, the newsletter is about building community, inspiring others and connecting with people we might not run into otherwise. We'd love to open it up to some user content. Whether it is a comic based on the Guild or an article about role playing you think people might enjoy, please PM it to us. Ideas as well as content are very welcome as is discussion within this thread. We want to hear from you.

As the name says. You play a historical dictator in a high school setting. Doesn't matter what era/year they come from, they're all ther ein the same time in the same place, in the same school. Such shenannigans will follow. Interested?
Title:Exodym (modern futuristic setting with extensive epic story)
A rough depiction of what a major city in this world would look like..
The story opens on the SNV Argo, a Systems Alliance naval war vessel heading towards a city under siege. The invasion is conducted by an unknown military force, and the Systems Alliance has been called in to resolve this act of heresy and provide military support. On the SNV Argo we meet and follow a squad of tier-one soldiers, the main characters, and their point of view of the incident. Equipped with high-tech gear and weaponry, they make their way to Pomona, the city under siege.
The members of the Systems Alliance Tier-One squad in questions have served together for one year, prior to the current events. They have shed blood, tears, and sweat tougher in all manner of missions. In combat situations, they know each other inside out, but their personal relations have always been null. In this story, they will become more than just faceless grunts fighting in the mud. They will be forced to, and learn to think for themselves.
To simplify this description, the setting of this story is a mixture between Mass Effect 1 and Final Fantasy VII-VIII . It is not a fandom, by any means; it is only influenced by these two already established settings. Certain names and words will be borrowed, as well as concepts and ideas, but the majority of the setting for this roleplay will be original or ambiguous interpretations of the already established settings. The world itself is an alternate version of our own world, which has many similarities with Eastern Europe in terms of culture, politics, economy, architecture, and ideology.
You portray a member of the tier-one squad described in the opening paragraphs of this thread. The story will take us all around the world, to strange places, and to dangerous places. It is a story about transformation, about doing the right thing when people that you know, people that you depend on, do something that is wrong.
Note: the information in this interest check is overly simplified and shortened.
Title: The Black Stone
"It appeared over Stonebrook, in a flash of lightning. Laughter echoed out over the small, shadow drenched hamlet; laughter heavy with the fervent zeal of a man condemned by a growing madness! The fortress, Illixion's forgotten fortress, the very same, I swear, unleashed a torrent of arcane horrors! The dead rose and the sky belched torrents of blood, people screamed in such pain that the Gods themselves are sure to have heard! Creatures beyond comprehension flooded from the depths of the looming, monstrous structure; taking flight on wings of crumbling crystal, plummeting to the earth with a deafening crash; tearing the world asunder where they fell! The midnight hour became an eternity of woe and terror that consumed all of those involved...I did not escape unscathed, m'lord."
The ragged poet unbent his knee, standing before the King, his scarlet garb tattered and torn, directing weary eyes to the velvet clad King of Drasil. Ponderously, the old man stood, his legs creaking in the utter silence, letting loose a quiet grunt as he gathered his prodigious cloak about his withered form. Guards shifted carefully from their positions against the far walls of the court, breaths drawn quietly as they stared on; keen on discovering what would be said next. Anxiousness flooded the room, charging the silence with a sinister undertone. A withered hand raised, slowly and came to a rest over a shallowly rising chest. Gray brows drooped, heavy with consternation, icy eyes staring out; ensorceled by the macabre fantasy presented to him.
"What is your name, boy?"
King Xade's voice was more impressive than his stooped form, deep and rich, empowered by years of command; an effective bludgeon against the mounting tension. The poet lowered his head for a moment, allowing blood matted auburn locks to fall over his face. His throat worked silently for a moment and his hands trembled, pressed to his side. He seemed frantic, shifting back and forth on his feet, a deep, tight grimace forming on his angular face.
The smoothness of his voice had faded, becoming harsh and bitter at the question; displeasure plain on his face. Something ominous settled over the room, setting hairs on end and kissing the spines of all the particularly perceptive with a rolling chill. The King seemed oblivious, while others exchanged worried glances and murmurs. A shift occurred beneath the poet's crimson clothes, a decompression of ethereal energies, dispelling the illusion flawlessly held before. What stood before them, now, was a tall, lithe creature wrapped in a suit of dark leather strips; bound with buckles of bone and gold. Where the handsome face of the poet had been was a simple, white mask; porcelain cracked and worn, yellow eyes staring out from the jagged, uneven holes.
"I...am Gahris Ghal. Wielder of the Black Stone. Woe betide you, wretched worms."
Well, well, well, thank you for taking time to read through the little bit of flavor/information/introduction I decided to throw in there! So, now, that's out of the way. Welcome, one and all to the Interest Check for the upcoming high fantasy/horror role play titled, obviously, The Black Stone.
Brief Rundown of Concept and Current Events: I've been dying to engage in a free form high fantasy role play for some time; something with competent role players and a huge vat of fuckin' creativity. So, this is where The Black Stone came from. The idea is pretty simple, over all; I want to have fun in a dark setting and develop a pretty heavy plot as we go. This is going to require a lot of communication and cooperation between players, so I decided to bring it into advanced. For now, I suppose I should give the current events rundown.
This will be taking place in the Kingdom of Drasil (which is largely undeveloped, so I'm expecting some creativity on the part of the players), which has recently lost its King by way of assassination; courtesy of the immortal Black Stone Wielder, Gahris Gahl; a man rumored to have met his demise nearly two hundred years prior to his reappearance.
The Kingdom is in turmoil, awaiting the coronation of Crown Prince Rynph Sielen; suffering periodic raids from the nomadic tribes from the Hattavori Desert, which lies to the East, beyond the small range of mountains that serves as their border. Rumors spread through the Thieves' Guild, to the Merchant's Lodge, all the whispers claiming that a dark sorcerer leads the savages to the heart of Drasil. The Queen, Tana Sielen, has sent out a summons; by way of her most able agents, to reach the famous, or perhaps even infamous, heroes of the realm, requesting their presence at the turbulent court.
Beyond the apparent threats to Drasil, there are dark stirrings in the flow of the world. Creatures entombed by antiquity begin to lurch their way to the forefront of the conflict; sinister machinations of ages past put into motion once more. The forgotten fortress of Illixion the Mad, appearing over the ruined city of Stonebrook is the first hint of the encroaching, secret perils. Gahris Ghal, the wielder of the Black Stone, observes it all; biding his time.

Beacon Academy is a facility for training teams of fighters to slay various monsters, which is run by Headmaster Ozpin.
Students with the aspiration to become Hunters, whose duty is to keep the peace within the world, strive to attend Beacon. In order to be accepted into Beacon, students must go to special schools in order to be trained in combat (like Signal Academy or be invited to the school after showing exceptional skill (like Ruby Rose). There may be other ways to get in, as Jaune Arc shows almost no skill in combat at all.
Once being accepted into Beacon, new students have to go through an initiation, where they will be placed into teams after its completion. So far the only known teams are Team RWBY and Team JNPR. There will be other teams besides RWBY and JNPR at this school, but they are unknown at this time.
The curriculum also appears to be rigorous and dangerous, as there is the possibility of death even during initiation
Title: The Search For Elvarren
We've all had the dreams, the ones with the strange creatures and chattering voices. Where we're running but we feel the urge to fight. Where can do amazing things, things most people could never imagine. And we're told we belong somewhere, that we need to find something. Something known only as "Elvarrren". The voices whisper into our ears, give us clues, hints, nonsense. And we know we have to find it, but where do you look for something when you don't know what it is? Our abilities are real and all different, though there are a few... problems. We draw energy from living beings. Therefore we cannot touch people barehanded. And if we touch each other.... Well, let's just say 'don't do that'. We have to find Elvarren, we all know it, and even if we don't get along, we belong together.
Oh, and one more thing.... there are men out there in grey uniforms tracking us down. I don't know what they want, but something tells me we wouldn't like it. Lie low, keep your head down, and for godsakes, don't kill anyone.

RPG has a lovely Gallery section that didn’t see enough encouragement and attention. If you have some scribbles lying around or some art you’d like to share start up a gallery and show people what you can do outside of an RP! While you are there take a moment to offer some encouragement and insight in another user's gallery, maybe they will return the favor. If you'd like your gallery to be featured be sure to send a PM to either Fallenreaper or Guru.
Art Gallery: My Art Gallery
MagixTricks had made a gallery that shows off a wide selection made within the past few years, ranging in a few different mediums. There are fantasy images drawn in traditional paper and pencil, even one in color, to works of finger painting. Each one displays the artist’s enjoyment at creating these interesting sketches.
Writing Gallery: The Curtains Were Blue (Short Story)
Crossark has written a short, heartwarming story about a plain set of curtains. What started off as a simple object has a deeper meaning as one man will tell, his affection clearly read in the thoughts he shares before they finally fall. It’s a charming story that is worth reading.
