Dreams Don't Turn to Dust
The Promise We Made That Day [Fantasy, Action, Adventure]
On the other side of the rickety bridge, deep in the forest behind town was the make believe kingdom of Sol. It was six years ago, on the fifth day of summer.
I still remember, but It feels longer than that. Do you remember?
We used to race across the old bridge, yelling as the wooden planks creaked beneath our weight. It feels like it's been ages since those days of long division, skinned knees and blind innocence. I know you all still remember, or at least I know I'll never forget those lazy summer days. The sky had bled orange the day we discovered the kingdom of Sol and it had rained not long after. Our parents chided us for acting foolish and we all got sick with the flu. It was silly, and I remember how we would walk over to each other's houses bundled up in blankets and armed with ice packs and orange juice.
We were the inseparable back then. I miss those days...
The day we created Sol was the day when fate decided to play its part. However, we wouldn't discover that till many years had passed.
"Let's imagine a castle on the other side of the bridge! We can go fight monsters and do anything!"
"Hey! That's a great idea! I'm going to be the bestest mage ever."
It was a game of make believe. We believed the kingdom existed and pretended we were its defenders. We wrote stories and even drew about Sol. It was a magical place that no one but us knew about, a collaborative world brought to life by our childish fantasies. It was something we could call our own. As time passed the kingdom of Sol expanded, but then we grew up and slowly, we began to leave, one by one. By the time high school rolled around, Sol was nonexistent and we had drifted apart. Make believe was childish, and gone were the days of ice cream on swing sets and picnics in the forest. In its place came movie nights, college applications and a plethora of other things we never even thought about before.
We never went back to Sol, but a part of us still remained. We didn't talk about Sol or acknowledge it, but it called us all the same. We were linked to it and whether we liked it or not, we were its defenders and it needed us more than ever.
One night, I was called back into the woods. It was the same old woods, the same old rickety bridge and the same old tire swing from six years ago.
Nothing out of the ordinary was there. It was just the woods, the place from our childhood.
"Promise, we'll never ever stop believing." The promise we made that day resonated within my head. Sol was calling out, so I closed my eyes, tossed logic to the wind and simply believed.
I opened my eyes and in the distance was Sol and the various imaginary friends we had named long ago.
"Welcome back," A voice said.
The kingdom needed us and we had to return. I won't forget it...
"The promise we made that day."

The Game Dealer
Name: Skyler Blaney
Weapons: A collection of daggers, three small ones for throwing, and one for striking the enemy in melee combat.
Gift: Ably Disabled
Major Gift: I Hear All
Skyler Can hear over a very long distance, his ears become his eyes, his senses are poured into them. This makes him a great spy, or eavesdropper. He uses his sense of hearing in combat to increase his capabilities when it comes to fighting, he can use this gift to map out the area and find out where his enemies are before attacking them stealthily, and as fast as possible.
Well, he's blind. If there is an enemy that is supernaturally silent, or flies, he's pretty much defenseless.
Minor Gift: Stealing Sight
Skyler can see through the eyes of others for a brief while, the amount of time varies from 10 to 60 seconds depending on the strength and mental resistance of the person. He has to be physically touching them to do this, and they themselves become blind during the process.
Skyler is a gentle and kind soul, protective over those he holds dear, and a defender of those in need. Although he's not very strong and is constantly bullied due to his disability at school, he's always the guy that stands up for what is right and will fight for his friends whenever necessary. He's not outwardly bitter or upset about his blindness, it's all he's ever known and he doesn't expect others to understand. He's also not reluctant to the pity and aid of others as some disabled people are, and accepts help when he admits he needs it.
Most kids see Skyler as a bit of a wimpy kid, not because he isn't brave, but because he comes off as shy and not very masculine (in most interpretations of the word). He doesn't like sports, he doesn't chase girls, and he spends most of his time alone at home or with a few friends. Skyler seems very content in life to those around him, but what really gets to him at heart is the bullies.
Every kid is bullied at school, but Skyler often feels particularly defenseless due to his blindness. He's always slightly aware that a bully might be sneaking up to him or that the unseen stranger next to him might suddenly hit him. He fights to not to let the bullies bring him down, and always tries to stay positive when talking to others. He is aware at the back of his mind, however, that he is different to his friends. That they'll always see him as the poor blind kid they've got to be nice to. But he loves them all the same, and he knows they love him too.
Skyler was not born blind, but he did have severely bad eyesight since birth. His eyesight quickly deteriorated and by the time he was two years old he was completely blind, his memories of sight are practically nonexistent. He grew up constantly watched over by his mother, his father died when Skyler was 5 years old, he was never very close to his dad but his mother loved him dearly. When he died, she became completely and utterly attached to Skyler, her only child. She's always been overprotective of him, and this has brought out an eagerness in him to get away from her to claim his independence, even as a young boy. Because of this, Skyler has had a couple of experiences with being lost outside while trying to run away from home. Two times he has done this, once when he was 7, and once again when he was 8. He does not dislike his mother, he loves her as any son does, he just wishes she weren't so defensive over him.
Skyler loved spending time with the Defenders of Sol, the other children he played with on the other side of the bridge in the magical kingdom they created together. Even though he was blind, he had no trouble enjoying the land of Sol with the other kids... usually.
School has always been on the slightly worse side of the scale of a good experience and a bad experience for Skyler. He got bullied nigh on every day either verbally or physically (or both) and has developed a sense of insufficiency when it comes to defending himself. He's always found a worthy cause in standing up for others, however, and is loyal to his friends and loved ones. He's more than happy to get away from the crowded corridors and immaturity of school, and looks forward to his future whatever it may hold for him.
-His insanely good hearing really only applies in Sol. Though he has better hearing than average in the human world, it's more like an adaptation to his sightlessness than a power.

Sonatron! Skyler is adorable and his powers! I just love stealing sight so much, it's really creative
He's on the site. I had to crop the picture though since posting the whole thing would have made it really tiny >__<. Sorry about that, if you prefer the normal one just say so and I'll replace the current site pic with Skyler's normal self instead of the Sol one.
Snowed in My House
*looks at the website*
*feels terribly tiny in the fact that there's a whole website for this RP*
Despite that, I'm interested. Is there a regular application process (I.E. just posting the bio), are there still slots available? If so, I'll whip up a bio... *rolls up sleeves*
Also, is a picture required? There's only one character I've ever drawn but I'm not sure if she would fit into this RP well or not, considering she's less Lawful Good and more Chaotic Neutral.
Dreams Don't Turn to Dust
Oh, hey there and welcome to the guild!
Nah, the site is just a compilation of info. It just looks neater that way. There are currently six of us, but a new face would be interesting. I guess one more person wouldn't hurt since I was planning for a maximum of seven anyways. *Is a sucker for pictures* I'd love if you could give us a pic along with the character, but before you start whipping up a CS. I'll have you know I enforce something called the three day rule when it comes to my RPs, so if you do join us I'll be expecting a post at least once every three days and a warning when one cannot post during the cycle.
Feel free to put up a sheet, though when you finish I'll have to ask my players for their opinions on another character. They're all nice though, so no worries

Oh and you don't have to draw your picture xD I just found mine.
Snowed in My House
Don't worry, I completely understand. I will definitely let you guys know if I can't post within three days. I can probably sneaky-sneak a couple while I'm at work. I'll probably throw in an Appearance in the bio.. considering my artsy skills are below par.
*rubs hands together*
Believe you me, if you get a whiff of this character's personality, you'll wanna let her in just to see what she does. *laughs maniacally in the distance*
Dreams Don't Turn to Dust
OwO Is she a loon? Cause in my other RP we have a loon and she's awesome, so many near deaths in one chapter <3
Do keep in mind they are normal high school seniors ! And I look forward to seeing your character.
Snowed in My House
Vera was originally in her mid twenties, so her picture is a little bit off with the whole age thing. And her hand is JUST in her pocket. Someone asked something inappropriate and I had to kick them for it.
I just looked at "The Defenders of Sol" on the website and I realized your character's a ginger and an elemental manipulator too, bahaha. I promise she existed before this and I'm not ripping anyone off >.> I won't give her a minor gift and I added quite a few drawbacks, considering the potential for her power. Also, I'm always terrible in making character histories so please don't judge my abilities on it!
Name: Vera Smith
Weapons: A simple dagger
Appearance: Vera has long, curly flaming red hair as boisterous as her personality. Her emerald green eyes twinkle with mischief, a smirk played across her pink lips. Her face is heart shaped, her cheekbones high and her nose petite. Her body plays on that comfortable, healthy line between skinny and slightly chubby. Unlike many girls her age, she is quite comfortable in her own skin. She’s confident with her 5’3” frame and even more confident about the, ah, watermelons attached. Her muscles are well toned.
Voice: Her voice is as varied as her thoughts. Her pitch frequently raises high when she’s excited, low when she’s upset. Usually, she talks quickly and incoherently.
Gifts: Wind Manipulation
-Blink: Vera uses the air around her to propel herself at incredible speeds. She travels a short distance in the "blink" of an eye. She can only use it to locations she can see.
-Fly: Similar to Blink, Vera manipulates the air in order to allow her flight.
-"Boom! I just punched you!": As Vera goes to throw a blow, she can force the air around her to make a certain body part move faster. Of course, her bones and muscles are still as strong as they used to be. If she uses this skill too much, it will cause dramatic wear and tear on her body. (To be learned)
-Extension of Self: Vera shoots several bursts of air towards an opponent. It is not very accurate but it is incredibly fast and can cause a loss of breath and bruising if it makes contact. (To be learned)
-Shield: Vera creates a circular gale around herself, picking up stones and sticks as it spins around her. It serves as a potent barrier. (To be learned)
- Despite her claims of being a mortal goddess, she is only human. Her body can only withstand so much before it begins to break down. Especially when using the wind to increase her speed, she could destroy her body if she pushes herself. She can handle about five to seven minutes of sustained speed enhancement before she collapses in pain.
- The wind itself won’t hurt her but debris and plant life would. She constantly cuts and scrapes herself on rocks or tree branches if she’s not careful or wearing the proper attire.
- She cannot breathe while “blinking”, just like it’s difficult to breathe when there are harsh winds.
Vera has been told she has no brain to mouth filter, nor an impulse inhibitor. She will say what's on her mind and do what she feels like with no regard to the consequences. Due to this, she is the source of amusement for people around her... except for her current victim. Her intentions are never to hurt anyone. However, she seems to forget the fact that people have feelings when it comes to her own entertainment. She can be serious if she feels she needs to be, although the occurrences are few and far between. She is a free spirit with a short attention span. A bit of a troublemaker, her love for pranks and making others uncomfortable puts her in the sights for many in authority. She has a tendency to jump to conclusions and form hypothesis from thin air. Vain, conceited, and terribly narcissistic, this girl enjoys being the center of attention and being complimented.
Without a doubt, Vera was the instigator in her group of friends. She would often play tricks on the girls on the group and blame it on the boys, snickering in the background. When the group began to drift apart, Vera felt a small void in her heart. She began to act up a little bit more in an attempt to fill it. When she was fourteen, tragedy befell the young maiden and sealed her boisterous personality. She was louder, fearless, and always getting into trouble. She was suspended from school frequently, nearly failing a grade because of it. Of course, as the child of a divorcee, absentee father, she was able to get away with much more than was healthy. It just encouraged her to push farther and harder, just to see where the line was drawn.
Still, she couldn’t make herself change. She couldn’t help it. When she thought a teacher was wrong, she said it. When she was bored in class, she announced it. When a girl whispered cruel words, she pulled the girl’s extensions out. When a boy tried to grab at her, she diminished his ability to have children. Deep in the back of her mind, she would wonder if she was too eccentric. Was this normal? She couldn’t change; she wouldn’t. So where could she go that it’d be accepted? The reply was always the same. Her answer was always there, tugging at her. It pulled on her heartstrings and caressed her inner ear.
Gently, it would whisper, “Sol”.
- Vera never wears red as she thinks it clashes with her hair.
- She has never had a boyfriend since she gets disinterested so quickly.
Dreams Don't Turn to Dust
Vera is pretty cool I love the diversity in personality since so far I don't think anyone has planned to make a semi mean girl. I'm fine with her, I'm just going to wait for the others to voice their opinions on a new player, but I think she's great <3
Looks cool. I'll read through the site and stuff when I have time.
Wanna RP with me? Check this out.
