2015. Did you know that maritime piracy costs Somalia approximately $100 million dollars EVERY YEAR in a loss of trade and ransoms? Along with that, you've got countless sums of money being lost throughout worldwide shipping in piracy worldwide as well- from the Gulf of Aden, to the South China Sea, the shores off Panama and Columbia to the Persian Gulf. This sum may not sound like much for Somalia itself in relation to the earlier statistic, it being a by-effect of the regional instability- yet as with all of these regions of the world, maritime piracy for these sort of places causes a lot of stress on the economy- something which isn't exactly the best thing to hear when you know some of your money is pissing away to militants, and you have to consider that it isn't good in relation to the fact that the economy isn't exactly great right now- nor is the fact that it is getting worse. Singapore, China, the US along with Holland and the UK are some of the largest at loss. It isn't just financial either, before you think that.
Hundreds of hostages are taken yearly, and the ransoms, the loss of precious cargo and supplies can almost result in crippling financial, economic and social issues within both richer shipping countries, and the countries where this occurs- turning militias into highly armed, dangerous forces to unstable regions- a tinderbox ready to be lit by the faintest spark of activity and thought. Many of these pirates may be out for money, yet they are prepared to kill any hostages, in order to prove whatever point they need to prove- this quickly becoming a problem for countries across the world that many of these innocent people once called home. It's a misery business- and despite increased defences aboard some ships that pass through the danger areas near certain "pirate" coastlines of the world, piracy remains as a huge problem for many- with many being more organized, armed and able to get their hands on better equipment and weaponry than ever before. You've probably heard the stories already, about almost any and every kind of ship being hijacked or at least attempted to have been taken for money, both in ransom and cargo. Enter Fireteam Poseidon.
Fireteam Poseidon was created as the "specialized" part of the international Task Force Scimitar, as a anti-piracy and counter-insurgent task force to operate against the threat of piracy and insurgency near and in what has come to be known as "danger zones" of sea and coastlines for international shipping and freight, where pirates and militias operate, and most importantly, where big sums of money are lost to the practice of crime on sea. It's not just in Somalia, before you ask- the threat of piracy links inextricably to terrorism in certain parts in the world, whilst in others, there simply is no correlation, with areas such as West Papua and the Philippines harbouring increasing numbers- a threat which no doubt is an altogether larger problem in addition to the current issues off the Somalian coast. It is a very fine line to work against due to the nature of the varying maritime threats worldwide, and hence the reason for Fireteam Poseidon's existence- and it is hoped that through them, finding and defeating larger strings of maritime piracy in critical regions of the world can be conducted, the resultant effects of piracy such as arms acquisition and regional instability be reduced, and situations where a crack team of Naval SF is required can be provided, to solve both shipboard crises or underwater demolitions.

Name: Adam Poniatowski
Rank: First Lieutenant (Porucznik)
Role: Fireteam Leader
Original Special Forces: Polish- JW Formoza
Appearance: Adam is approximately 6"4, and seems to fit the personality of a grizzled Polish officer quite well. He is well toned, and is a very good physical condition, having a high level of stamina along with a good strength and athletic ability- being able to take on extended physical activity without a hitch. His hair is shaved nearly bald, yet he retains a good facial hair- with a full, brown beard- kept to a regular and neat standard, yet defines his face well. The reason for this is simply Adam's personal preference to maintain after growing one in Afghanistan- something that helped to make the SF groups working there look a little more respectable to the locals (genuinely- they respect beards, m'kay). He has brown eyes and a ridged nose, and has a Trident tattooed on his neck, not to mention a reasonably chunky body type as a result of his well-toned physique, making him more than capable in close quaters.
In terms of his kit, when without any diving involved, it consists of:
Ops Core FAST Helmet, rails (Carbon Fiber color scheme, custom)
Surefire HL1-A Helmet Mounted Flashlight
NVG Helmet Mount
ESS Profile Turbofan Goggles (occasionally used, yellow tint)
Crye Precision CAGE Body Armour+Chest Rig, Pouches (MOLLE)

Crye Precision G3 Combat (Under)Shirt (Olive/Tan)(Polish Flag on shoulder)
Oakley Assault Glove(s) CT (Tan Camo)
Crye Precision G3 Combat Pants (Olive/Tan)
Oakley All Weather SI Boots
In the case that the operation involves diving, and then moving onto a shoreline, Adam will normally use a drysuit, along with his regular plate carrier, a rebreather (allowing for extended periods of diving), along with a facemask (integrated radio) among other various peripherals.

History: Adam Poniatowski may sound like he's a 17th Century elected King of Poland due to his surname, but he is far from that. Raised in Szeczcin, Poland, Adam was brought up as a son of a retired dock worker and a lawyer, becoming quickly ambitious as to train in the military, seeing himself as a potential leader of men and able to fight for Poland. He was conscripted at the age of 18 for his national service, but was able to get onto officer training- from where he found himself quickly enjoying and finding it his true calling in terms of the military. He spent seven years in the Polish Military, leading eventually an entire company of men as the Polish equivalent of a First Lieutenant, yet found this to be a boring task. Though he had seen many tours of duty and engagements in Iraq, Afghanistan along with detached peacekeeping operations in the Balkans along with transfers to various US Marine units, he found it was all too dull- and leading to a life of simply not fighting. He was fit, he was experienced, and most of all, he knew that it didn't cut it for him, not serving like this.
He opted for a transfer to a Special Operations unit, and found himself in JW Komandosow very quickly, spending a year in this SF group as a sub-commander before undergoing frogman training and much further underwater training- choosing to operate in JW Formoza, Poland's equivalent of the Navy Seals. He passed accordingly, and despite not having a naval background, his past transfers with the US Marines, and JW Komandosow allowed for Adam to quickly find himself leading a fireteam in Afghanistan, and even the occasional operation in Somalia- his operational skills that of a honed diver and special forces soldier, Adam becoming a well-known figure among Formoza and even other SF groups he has collaborated with as the bald, bearded Pole know him positively as a good leader. From then to now, he has served in this unit, and has now chosen to be placed into Task Force Scimitar's Fireteam Poseidon, as a fireteam leader there- leading an internationally assembled team of the world's crack Naval SF operators in the fight against maritime piracy and terror.
