"Спарта multi-field Research Station had been festering in the planning phase for decades at the start of what is affectionately dubbed 'Humanity's first Interplanetary Golden Era'. The era lasted about seventy five years and saw an explosion of progress in many areas of interest, space travel and its associated components being the most profitable. It came about through an Earth-wide revolution in thinking and ideology, kind of similar to a huge corporate take-over i suppose. Suddenly there were trillions of Sterlings available for anything you can imagine. Large scale off-world ore mining, colonizing and terra-forming far off planets, research into medicines and virtually every other science you can think of. Of course it started off as a trickle, a few planets being claimed and colonised, a few lunar mining projects et cetera. But as the money began pouring in from these ventures, the trickle turned into a torrent. Consortiums from all over the world took part in the gold rush, from villages pooling together and purchasing an extractor/freighter to huge multi-nationals having entire fleets manufactured to their design.
The idea behind Спарта station changed hands several times, as corporations lost interest or moved onto different avenues, but finally the deeds were picked up by natural gas behemoth Gazprom; who immediately put the plans into action. Having already discovered and claimed a world with which to conduct their affairs in peace, Gazprom erected the Station and it's defenses in record time. It's purpose was split into several areas. Let's not go into that but i'll just say they involved natural gas as well as some other...unsavory areas of research. Everything went well for a while. Gazprom sold the rights to land deemed invaluable to eager colonists. Small communities popped up all over the planet, harvesting ore and gases to be shipped back to Earth and other worlds. Then the bubble burst. No one has concisely written the reasons for it down yet. Something to do with 'insufficient returns' and other issues going on back on Earth, massive drouts and civil unrest. Funding dried up.
The first reaction was to sever all ties with the colonies they had pumped so much money into, but millions of lives would have been in jeopardy, so another alternative had to be reached. In the end it was decided that all colonies and projects would gain sovereignty, and all colonies would be floated on stock markets on every planet to secure new funding. Booming 'New Earths' like Cornucopia and Templar finally had a chance to buy up assets that Earth couldn't afford to sustain. Gazprom sold eighty percent of Спарта station to other companies and only maintained a small scale operation there. The staff on site at any one time was cut by around 20% and the more accomplished researchers and scientists were bought up by stakeholders and shipped off to better funded facilities. The highly specialized maintenance droids were also taken away and replaced with hardier, more generic models that could keep going for millennium on Helium 3 fuel cells " - Recording found on the Спарта Station archives. Recorded 221 years before current date. Sound quality decays afterwhich and dissolves into static.
Hello everyone! I'm Cathy and this is my newest roleplay: Forty Miles of Bad Road! We will be playing the scientists and support staff working at Snapta station and the nearby Anti-air battery. We will need to overcome great difficulties in the days ahead. If it sounds like something you're into then feel free to fill out an application form and post it here!

The Tamerlane Nguyen Translight Engine was the leap forward in 2291 that completely changed Humanity's technological focus. Until the invention of a Faster than Light system, forays into outer space had been limited mainly to the Sol System. Since then the efficiency and speed of the engine has been greatly increased.
