NOW ACCEPTING FOUR NEW PLAYERS
Lenaya - Co-GM
What if I told you that a day consists of more than 24 hours? Would you believe me? Of course you wouldn’t. But I promise you, it’s the truth. Just listen for a moment and I will explain. There is an hour that few know about. An hour hidden between one day and the next. That’s the Dark Hour. Of course, only we know about it. Normal people transmogrify into coffins and remain blissfully unaware of everything that occurs. Blissfully unaware of the mysterious beings called Shadows that also lurk about. But, there are people, however rare, that can function during the Dark Hour. Some of these people may even awaken to a power they can use to fight the Shadows. We call this power “Persona.” Shadows can only be defeated by Persona-users. That is the goal of our group; defeat the Shadows. But we can’t do this alone. Will you lend us your strength?
Yes, I know, “Boooo, I hate rules.” I’ll try to keep this section brief. There are a few things you need to be aware of before you go forward with this thread.
1. Godmodding and Powerplaying are both major no-nos. I only warn people once for this. The second time it happens, you will be terminated and your spot will be free to the next person who wishes to join.
2. Please, try to use proper grammar. Spelling, punctuation, capitalization and the like are all pretty important.
3. As GM, I have the final say on everything. Not to say i’m going to be a total tyrant. Just know that if there is a disagreement, I will step in, hear both sides, make a decision, and that will be that. Also, please note that I do not like people who backseat GM. This includes, but is not limited to, refereeing disagreements between players, telling me that my style of GMing isn’t the “right” style, and controlling characters that only I control (this falls under the godmodding category). Overall, I have a policy of mutual respect. You respect me, I will respect you and I will not act like a total cunt.
For more information, please see my handy-dandy help section at the bottom of this thread.
4. I will give everyone two days to post. I believe this is fair. If you do not post within a week, I will assume you are no longer interested in this role-play and I will give your spot to the next person who wants it. You may rejoin at a later date, provided your spot is still open. If it's not, then you must wait for another spot to open up. This rule does not apply to those who inform me that they are going to be absent ahead of time.
Please fill out the following sheet in its entirety. Once more, if you need help, please consult my handy-dandy help section at the bottom of this thread. I recommend using Japanese names for your characters since this role-play does take place in Japan. However, this is not required. Your character doesn’t even need to be Japanese. Foreign exchange students are perfectly acceptable. To keep this as canon as possible, I do have to take a bit of control with your characters’ backstories. Please consult my handy-dandy help section at the bottom of this thread for more information about what I mean.
Age: [15 - 18]
Weapon: [No guns please]
Arcana: [Choose from the list in my handy-dandy help section]
Initial Persona: [Choose from the list under your chosen arcana. An arcana with a black line through it is taken.]
Ultimate Persona: [Leave this blank. This comes later]
Backstory: [I recommend looking at my handy-dandy help section at the bottom of this thread before you begin writing]
First off, you might be asking what Godmodding and Powerplaying are. Well, Godmodding is whenever you control another character as if it was your own. This includes, but is not limited to, indirectly controlling the character/enemy/NPC by influencing thoughts and emotions, directly controlling the character/enemy/NPC by making them move and talk without player and GM approval, announcing that your attacks hit without rolling any dice, and, in the most extreme cases, killing another character/enemy/NPC without player and GM approval.
Second, I am a stickler for proper grammar. While my standards are fairly high, I do not expect you to meet or exceed them. Mistakes are fine, everyone makes them. Just make sure you try your best and try to use this role-play to improve your grammar if it is lacking.
Third, as GM, I am one-part referee, one-part ally, one-part enemy, and one-part the world. As GM, I control enemies, NPC's, some allies, and the nature of the world your characters inhabit. It is also my job to settle out-of-game disputes. Someone has to be in charge, right? Imagine if a GM couldn't resolve disputes. The game would quickly and very easily fall apart.
Please make sure your character's backstory meets the following criteria before submitting;
-They had to be in Japan ten years prior to the story's beginning.
-They have not awakened to their Persona yet.
-They transferred, for no apparent reason, out of their current school to Gekkoukan High School.
You may or may not notice that my character does not meet two of the three criteria. That is because he’s technically an NPC that I filled out a character sheet for.
The Hanged Man
Persona stats determine the combat effectiveness of you and your Persona.
If you look at the Initial stats above, you will see the following; ST, MA, EN, AG, LU. These stand for Strength, Magic, Endurance, Agility, and Luck. Strength determines damage from physical attacks. Attacks like Bash, Kill Rush, and Fatal End depend on a high ST to do damage. Magic determines damage from magic attacks and determines total SP. Attacks like Agi, Bufu, and Garu do a great deal of damage if you have a high MA. Endurance determines yours and your Persona's HP and how much damage is reduced from an attack against you. Agility determines your initiative and ability to dodge attacks. Your initiative is the order you go in battle. A higher initiative means a higher position on the turn list. Finally, there's Luck. LU determines your chances of getting a critical hit and increases the chances of an enemy dropping a rare item.
Yoromatsu “Yoro” Kirijo
18 years old
Yoro is pretty old fashioned. He has been taught, since he was a little boy, to always be polite and courteous. Especially to women. Even now, he is still a gentleman. He's a nice guy to most everyone, but a little out of touch with common people and their lives. But that's to be expected, since he has spent his entire life as part of the social elite. He has never eaten at a common restaurant nor has he lived a common life. He has always been afraid to even try to eat at common restaurants for fear of looking like a fool.
Yoromatsu Kirijo is the oldest of the two Kirijo brothers, a senior at Gekkoukan High School, and Student Council President. Being the heir to the Kirijo Group, Yoro has become used to dealing with immense amounts of pressure. To the outside world, Yoro is just a very rich, very popular High School student. But behind closed doors, he is the leader of the "Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad" or "SEES." This group is dedicated to the defeat of the creatures called "Shadows." Everyone in the group is able to wield a mysterious power known as "Persona." Yoro awoke to his Persona when he was just a child. He accompanied his father and his research team. While they were researching, they were attacked by Shadows. Overcome by the feeling of intense danger and want to help his father, he called on his Persona. Even though he was very young when this occured, it wouldn't be until he entered High School when SEES would be formed. Now, he fights alongside his comrade, Akira.
Might as well post the revised CS here.
Name: Fukugawa Youhei
Youhei's appearance is a bit atypical for a Japanese male, with a fairly square jaw and prominent nose, reminiscent of his Western blood. His hair is a dark blonde hue, bordering on fair brown and flows down almost to his shoulders.
Personality: Youhei appears to be a very relaxed and stable young man. On the surface he is calm and good natured, yet under his outer veneer hide deep-seated insecurities over his own identity and his relation to others. He battles with a powerful feeling of detachment and often sees himself as an outsider in the group. Of course, most people will only ever see his omnipresent smile and characteristic dry wit. He is also a shameless flirt and enjoys teasing others to get a reaction; that said, his lack of inner confidence often causes him to trip up when the flirtee returns the favour.
Weapon: Metal Rounders Bat
Backstory: Fukugawa Youhei was born the second son of a Hokkaido dairy farmer. His mother, a British immigrant, passed away during childbirth, leaving Youhei to be raised by his socially awkward father and underachieving brothers. Between the four of them, the remnants of the Fukugawa family managed to hold themselves together for over a decade until Youhei reached high school age. Through a series of accidents and business errors, the farm collapsed, causing a deep rift to form in the family. Youhei, along with his eldest brother moved to southern England with his mother's family, to study at a local agricultural college. During his time in Britain he learned a number of skills, some practical such as woodland survival and metalwork, others not so much... such as how to roll a perfect cigarette. He and his brother were set to spend their lives in Europe, never intending to return to Japan and their failure of a family.
Of course, Sod's Law has a way of tripping you up and he found himself being shunted back to Japan by his family, soon to be a transfer student at Gekkoukan High School...
Name: Akira Ikeda
picture is kind of big but it's one of my favorites, sorry!
Personality: From first glance anyone can tell that Akira is a very shy, reserved person who always seems to be nose-deep into whatever book she finds. She rarely ever talks to people she isn’t familiar with, but she is polite enough not to offend anybody with her demeanor. Once you get to know her though, it’s like she never seems to shut up! She’s very passionate about the pursuit of knowledge and she is a very bubbly and fun person. Most of her references are a little nerdy so she might give you a sidelong glance if you don’t catch it, but she’ll be more than happy to educate you on it, along with whatever random facts she’s learned that day, and the day before that, and the day before that, and…..
Weapon: She’s not very athletic, but she's coordinated enough to handle a Yumi hankyū styled bow, along with a quiver full of arrows.
Arcana: Priestess Arcana
Initial Persona: Unicorn
Ultimate Persona: --
Character Stats: [You have a total of three points to spend on the following stats. Consult my handy-dandy help section at the bottom of this thread for more information about what these stats mean and what I do with them.]
Akira is a transfer student, but from a more rural area of Japan. Her aunt, Matsuri, received guardianship of her after Akira’s mother begged her sister to do so, given that Akira’s aunt was much better off (financially being the most prominent) than she and her husband were. After moving into the city, Akira’s love and hunger for knowledge showed itself, and since then she’s always trying to learn as much as she can. She misses her parents dearly and writes letters to them, but recently it has come to her knowledge that she now has a younger brother and sister. Akira doesn’t really know how to handle this, nor has she tried to work it through her mind since she found out and she chooses to bury her emotions in her studies rather than face them head on. She moved in with her aunt at the age of 6 and has lived with her since. She’s comfortable in her current school, has a few friends from there, and even has a pet dog that lives with her and Matsuri. Recently, she's had to transfer to a new school, Gekkoukan High, which means she'll have to live in the dorms and ditch her dog. She does keep a picture of Taka as a bookmark and rarely ever shows it to people, along with anything else that belongs to her or shows her personality off.
- Oh, and here is her dog,
Name: Midori Minobe
Personality: Midori is a level-headed, calm, and polite individual. She tends to try to be neutral and keeps her opinions to herself. She’s quick to forgive and doesn’t visibly get angry. This would make her ideal for settling disputes amongst friends, but she lacks the drive to bring people together and is a bit of an introvert. She’s likes to think that she’s just a nice person who can go with the flow. However, Midori’s really more like a pushover; she’s afraid others will hate her if she doesn’t do what they want (or what she thinks they want). This fabricated pressure causes her to do things or put herself into situations she would often rather avoid.
Initial Persona: Fortuna
Ultimate Persona: ???
Backstory: Midori’s parents are both office workers, and she found that her earliest childhood memories are those of her being alone at home. She raised herself on convenience store dinners and television show morals. Despite technically living with them for her whole life, Midori considers her parents practically strangers who occasionally take her out for dinner on her birthday when they remember. She was desperate for some kind of acceptance, thus when she began going to school she quickly took it upon herself to become someone the other kids would like. She discovered that the best way to achieve this was to do favors for them, and soon she found herself taking over clean-up duties for the lazy, doing the homework for the slackers, and taking the blame for pranksters. This life style of martyrdom followed her throughout her school career, and soon Midori was known as the girl everyone could rely on to take the fall regardless of what it was. It didn’t really win her any popularity, but that only drove the girl to try harder. And then she got transferred to Gekkoukan her first year of high-school, and all that self-sacrifice was for naught.
Name: Kigarra Maeda
Personality: She is a quiet girl when it comes to school, often keeping to herself since she's a bit shy. Although, once you become enough of a friend to her she proves to be a happy and fun loving girl. She has a habit of dwelling on the past and wondering what could of been, though she try's her best to always look forward.
Arcana: The Hanged Man
Initial Persona: Inugami
Backstory: She lives together with her mother and younger brother in the city and works a part-time job at her grandfathers cafe to help her mother with monetary trouble. Her mom is a kindergarten teacher so she doesn't receive much pay. Out of mysterious luck, she got a transferred to Gekkoukan High where they offered to pay for all of her school expenses so that her mother wouldn't have to worry. Of course she was quickly sent off and thus her new high school life began.
Name: Akira "Loveless" Shirogane
He bleaches his hair for his stage appearance.
Personality: Akira's stage personality is what you'd expect from your typical male idol playing up the "fallen angel" role. His act encompasses a tragic romantic who's curse is that despite his ability to capture women's hearts with his pretty face he must never fall in love himself lest some tragic fate befall his beloved. A lot of pretentious speech and airy mannerisms completes the effect. Of course, this is just a facade.
In reality he's a very withdrawn individual and escapism is his strong suit. When he's not decked out in the magnificence of his stage identity he has a hard time even looking at another person. He rarely speaks and just ignores whatever happens around him. This is partly because he's not interested in the unglamorous world around him, and partly because he has no self-confidence when he's not in character. Essentially he's never grown up at all. Bordering delusional, for what he lacks in self-confidence he makes up with his talent, fooling those around him and even himself into believing he's a person other people will naturally be drawn to. In direct contradiction to this he distances himself from people since it's difficult for him to overcome his own shortcomings in order to form bonds without relying on his stage identity. Because he doesn't like to put forth a great deal of effort he naturally avoids difficult situations, favoring instead the easy route and receding into a passive state when the current situation is difficult.
Initial Persona: Nekomata
Ultimate Persona: ???
Backstory: Akira lost both his parents at a delicate age when he was still very young but mature enough to know the meaning of their deaths. He was taken in by relatives, but growing up with the knowledge of his parents' death took it's toll on him. He withdrew from almost all interaction, and his new family didn't know how to ease the boy's pain.
Partly due to his uncanny good looks and partly due to his eighth-grader's syndrome taking over his otherwise socially occlusive personality he was targeted by a talent agent in his middle school years and entered into an explosively successful career as an idol which his relatives supported with great enthusiasm believing it would somehow help. He's never really had the chance to make any lasting friendships, but never wanted to anyway. He prefers stardom to the busy and tiresome life of the average person, and his school work has suffered because of this. When he's not performing he prefers to lock himself in his room and peruse the internet for the latest memes and otaku culture even though his profile in magazines says his hobbies are something much more glamorous--just for appearance's sake. However, that's all taken care of by his manager who is part business man and part caretaker to the privileged star.
Somehow the world of imagination, drama, and fantasy have always interested him more than reality, and he has been perfectly content to ignore his problems both in school and life in order to continue his work as a idol up to this point. So far he's been drifting through life as if it were a dream, but that was before his manager sprung a sudden break from the idol business on him forcing Akira to transfer into Gekkoukan High which is sure to cause a much unwanted stir among the student population....
Name: Hanako 'Hana' Akechi / Yuki 'Yukihiro' Akechi
Appearance: (Imagine the change in facial looks like how Superman pretends to be Clark Kent. When Hana turns into Yukihiro, her expression becomes more intense and stoic. When Yukihiro becomes Hana, she looks much more relaxed and happier. Both Hana and Yukihiro are 1.68m, or 5'6".)
While personality shifts will make it difficult for them to maintain their clothing choices, Hana prefers dresses and Yukihiro prefers suit-jackets.
Hana/Yukihiro quite readily accepts that her twin sister is dead, but has no idea who's the original and who's the fake. When questioned why she does this, she says 'I forgot who I was, but at least I'm right half the time. And at least, both she and I get to fulfil both our wishes.'
One can almost immediately tell which personality is in charge by listening to Hana/Yukihiro's voice pitch. Higher means Hana, lower means Yukihiro.
Personality shifts for her are quite random, and sometimes timed conveniently, as if this multiple personality part of her is intentional on her part. Both 'personalities' share the same memories, but may have different opinions on the same things.
Hanako Akechi: Hanako's the so-called flower arranging girl of the pair. A hyperactive girl with a great imagination and the latest magazines of the hottest guys. She's a real social butterfly and a lovely painter. She tries to sing sometimes, but she's quite tone deaf. Hanako's the personality that she almost always ends up at school with, though sometimes, midway or at the end of the day, Yukihiro might pop in for a bit or take charge.
Yukihiro Akechi: Yukihiro can be best described as laconic and hard to get any real emotions out of, almost like the only thing you can see on her face is 'stoic slight anger', straight face or the occasional smile. Almost the perfect gentleman in every manner, Yukihiro still maintains enough politeness not to be a snob and the life skills required to handle conversation with those not as 'prim and proper' as her.
Weapon: Both use the same weapon, but in different styles. Hanako carries a red umbrella which hides a katana interior. Yukihiro carries a staff styled like Caduceus, itself holding the same katana interior.
Backstory: There was once a happy pair of twin siblings, daughters of a loving housewife and a fatherly office worker, though their personalities were divided by a great gulf. Hana was the fair girl who loved art and pretty dresses. Yukihiro (nicknamed thus after she rescued a bunch of puppies from drowning in a river) was the fake bishonen twin of the pair. Both of them lived happy lives, without great concern for anything beyond school.
It was until a truck ran over one of them 3 years ago. If you asked Hana or Yukihiro who died that day, she would not know the real answer. The sudden death of one of the sisters would end up hurting the other so much for. For a month, she refused to leave her room, only taking food quietly from beneath her door.
When the girl walked out of her room after 'recovering', her parents immediately realised something was wrong. For the sister that lived was dressed like the one who died. Her parents soon accommodated/resigned themselves to these sudden changes, but force her to see a psychologist every week.
A week earlier, after her parents heard of the talented Dr. Hosokawa, who lived near Gekkoukan High School, they made Hana/Yukihiro transfer from her original school to Gekkoukan.
Her visits to Dr. Hosokawa would lead her to meet a strange group by the name of Strega, who had some members frequent the same doctor. Her learnings about the Dark Hour, and her potential, would guarantee her membership in Strega the moment the Dark Hour passed when she was in the doctor's office. Knowing little what Strega meant, but accepting to join anyway, Yukihiro was gifted her Cadeceus staff as a weapon. (Hana was given the umbrella katana later when they found out about her multiple personality thing.)
Unfortunately, a little bloody incident involving a fatal fight amongst Strega members would unnerve Hana so much that she would flee Strega.
List of Non-Player Characters
Takahiro-- or Tak, as his friends call him, is the support member for SEES. He grew up in Tokyo and is very much a city boy. While his passions are many, he has a particularly deep love for video games. He and Yoromatsu have been fighting the Shadows together for over two years.
The chairwoman of the board for Gekkoukan High and the club adviser for SEES. Seems to have a very odd relationship with the Kirijo family.
The Dark hour occurs every night at midnight. During this time, no electronic devices work and everyone who does not have the potential is transmogrified into a coffin. The reason for the Dark Hour is still a mystery.
When someone is able to retain their human form during the Dark Hour, that person is said to have "the potential." That simply means that they may be able to summon a Persona and become official Persona-users.
An Evoker is a tool that Persona-users use to control their Personas. There is a rumor that some can summon Personas without Evokers, but this has yet to be verified.
The home of the protagonists and home base of SEES.
A ramen shop, beef bowel shop, a sweet shop, a manga cafe, a bookstore, and a burger joint are here.
Here, the faithful pray for blessings. Many festivals also take place here throughout the year
The main hang-out for students after school. There's a police station, pharmacy, karaoke club, antique shop, arcade, a record store, an accessory shop, a cafe, and a night club.
One of the monorail stations. There is a flower shop and a movie theater outside the station.
The school that the transfer students go to. There are some strange rumors about it...
A strange elevator room inhabited by a strange long-nosed man named Igor and his hauntingly beautiful assistant, Elizabeth.
