At six o'clock on a Monday morning, the inside of the Dene house was still quiet, which was going to change in the next hour or two. Outside, the rain was pouring heavily with no signs of slowing down. It had rained all through the night, and the grounds were filled with puddles and the small pond in the backyard seemed to be overflowing.
Ava had been awake for a while but remained in her bed. She watched the rain fall outside, occasionally shivering when the thunder crackled loudly. She wished she could stay indoors all day today, but it was Monday, which meant she had to go to work. She wondered how the younger members of the clan would go to school, knowing that some of them hated the rain. While they were rich enough to own several cars, the Head of the clan wasn't very lenient with some things - financial spending being one of them. He believed that the descendants were cursed for a reason, and needed to atone for the mistakes of the past. The only reason he even allowed the clan members to stay in his luxurious mansion was to keep an eye on them all and make sure that their secret wasn't exposed.
Ava sighed. She wished she could speak to the Head about some things. But he was rarely seen. The only time she had ever seen him was when... No...I shouldn't think about that now... Ava told herself, shaking her head to get rid of thoughts of the past. She pushed away her covers and finally got up from bed. Might as well make sure the young ones take their raincoats and all... she thought as she made her way to the adjacent bathroom to freshen up for the day. After she was done, she pulled on a red t-shirt and some jeans before making her way downstairs.
Inside the kitchen, the cook was already up and bustled about, preparing breakfast for everyone. The smell of pancakes, bacon and waffles drifted through the house. She made a variety of things to eat, knowing that everyone had different tastes. The table was set with twelve plates as always, though she knew some members weren't going to be present.
A new day was starting for the Dene clan. What would it bring for its members?
