The young man crouched over the last carved symbol outside of the circle, before finally righting himself, putting away his knife and smacking the dirt of his pants, "All done now!" Two cloaked figures behind him drew down their hoods, a woman and an old crone, and strode up to have a better look. For a few minutes, they each walked clockwise and counter clockwise around, checking for imperfections. The woman frowned deeply at one of the symbols.
"You carved the symbol wrong, you scrub!"
The young man merely stood his ground, "Call me a scrub, will you? I'll have you know-"
The old crone held up a hand to halt further words, "No...this is a proper symbol, just the alternative for the original one you wanted to use..."
"The wrong symbol, go and change it!"
"It's the correct alternative to use, I'm not changing it!"
Then, a few harsh words of no importance were exchanged as the old crone just cleared a little dust from the symbols, taking sometime to nurse her crooked back and take a look around at the scenery. A lot of forest around the stony ruins, and darkness, the most prominent darkness staring down at them all. The three of them seemed to manage just fine, having taken formulas to strengthen their night sense, but they could really only hope that the other group would do fine as well. "Ay, alright...let the other group know we are ready, send up the blue signal, then we await their signal...then, we can start."
Stopping to listen to the old crone, the young man pulled out what appeared to be a blue from a leather pouch, squeezing it hard in his palm. There was a sharp whistle, as soon as he opened his hand, a blue light shot far into the sky to explode spectacularly in the sky. Then, it eventually dispersed, and they were left watching the dark skies...but not for long, as another blue symbol appeared and exploded high above. Everything was ready. The woman nodded at the old crone, then hesitantly at the young man, before walking over to the circle and holding out a staff right before it. The staff glowed green, and the circle as well shortly after, she lowered her hand once it was bright enough...but the others didn't seem to notice. Instead, they were both staring up at the sky, at the burning bright red signal.
Before anyone said anything, the young man was off. Running for the direction of the second ruins, the second prepared circle, to the second group. The woman looked between his fleeting form, then back over at the glowing circle, then at the old crone.
"The circle is quite safe, and will be fine for quite some time. Lets go and help them, as long as we are not away for more than a few hours, all we be well here." With the old crone's words, the woman ran off as well, the crone could only hobble behind them slowly. But, after a few moments, she too disappeared into the darkness. The only thing alive in those ruins was the actively glowing magical runes and circle, but soon...
Two shadows began to manifest within the glowing circle, unmoving, and in strange positions. The first one became more and more solid, a figure of an average height, with arms over their head and knees slightly bent. Silver hair in a tight ponytail, reflective eyes, fancy nobleman's clothing...for a few moments, the figure stood frozen in a pose, before swinging their arms down and missing their invisible target with their invisible blade.
"What the...? My swor--oh..." Looking around, the shook their head at their eyes raked over the glowing runes outside of the circle, "Not again...!"
The other shadow began to properly form and manifest as well. Legs straight, leaning over, both hands held out carefully...white robes and gowns were manifested, along with very long white hair. The woman stood frozen, seeming to be pouring some sort of invisible teapot before squinting her eyes, and standing at attention to the change of her scenery, "Brother...brother, dear...where are you brother? Where are we?"
A Few Minutes Before, At The Other Circle
A heavily armoured man sifted from one foot to the other, uneasy, even with the blazing torch in his other hand, "Are we going to light up our signal now?" Carefully, he reached into his pocket before pulling out the blue marble like object...
A tall man pointed over at him sharply, "Don't you do--!" At that moment, the first circle's blue signal lit up the night sky...they all stared up at it for a moment before the tall man continued with his point, "Our circle is not done yet!"
"Yes, yes it is!" A petite lady huffed from where she stood, on the opposite side of the circle, "I have a perfect memory! All symbols are exactly as they should be!"
"Uh...Pam is right, she never forgets a rune once she got it memorized in her head..."
The tall man just shook his head, "Yes...yes, all symbols seem to be right, but something seems to be off..." Crouching down, the traced a rune inside of the circle, "Something is off, I feel it in my gut...maybe the symbols have been places wrong...no...the space between them is wrong..." He seemed to continue to ponder this, but the petite lady 'Pam' just huffed again and walked over to his side.
"We've been here longer than we should've...and you still haven't decided what you feel is wrong...it's probably all in your head." With this, she signalled to the armoured man, and he activated his signal. As they all stared up at the bright blue in the sky, the circle glowed faintly red once or twice.
Pam walked back over to her side of the circle, and the tall man stayed on his, "Fine, this circle is fine, lets just do this and get it over with...!"
Both held out their staves, and the circle began to glow green shortly...before turning into an eerie red, then, all three of them were blown back several metres by the circle's charge of magical energy, "W-what's happening?"
Suddenly, from behind the recovering armored man, a tall figure manifested out of the air...to roughly swing a huge battle axe into the man's skull. The tall, man looked over at the armed giant, then back at the circle, then at the weapon of the armed giant, then the circle, then Pam, then the circle...'All the symbols were right, and positioned right...!'"Oh, gods...Pam, you put the damned runes inside of the damned circle! Quickly! GET IN THAT DAMNED CIRCLE!" Thinking back at what they planned for the worst case scenarios, he took out what appeared to be a red marble and smacked it into the length of the staff, "GODS DAMN IT, PAM!"
