It was the beginning of a new age. There was no way to deny that. Technology had created amazing things... but nothing amounted to the discovery that would change people's way of life forever.
It was a newly invented nameless drug that had been developed by the government. The first trials had held amazing results. It's subjects gaining strange abilities never thought possible in human kind. Like someone had just thrown the world right smack in the middle of some silly science fiction novel... but it was real. It was permanent... and the kinds of powers triggered by the drug were uncontrollable. Each and every individual having different reactions and in result, unique and strange powers.
Yet... with every new discovery came consequences and negative results.
Beneath the heel of a boot in a dank alleyway, a cigarette-butt was ground into the concrete, it's last trail of smoke drifting upwards into the air and fading.
"This is the target?"
As the woman spoke, smoke spilled out of her lungs as she exhaled, amber hued eyes studying the photo of the girl that had found it's way into her hands, smirking softly as she memorized the face... reading over the information provided about her, and then, abruptly, the picture and document erupted into flames between her fingers, turning to ash, startling the boy standing before her.
"Y, Yes. Of course." He stammered, seeming unnerved by the woman who towered him by at least a foot in height. The brat being one of the many 'pawns' apart of the organization that this pair were apart of.
A crime organization.
Fiery red hair was tossed back over the woman's shoulder as she turned abruptly, waving a backwards farewell to the boy, "Best run along home. I've got work to do." She called, laughing softly as she slipped from the alley and onto the empty sidewalk, the clicking of her heeled boots fading as she left the area.
A highly dangerous criminal known by the name of Mina Crisimion. A name she had adopted over the years. Once, in the past, she had been the daughter of the local crime lord... until one day he was found face down on his desk in a pool of blood and a knife sticking out the back of his neck.
Rumor had it, Mina murdered him in cold blood.... at the age of eleven years. Three years before she would inevitably take her first taste of that 'miracle drug' as it first hit the streets and underground black markets.
Certain people known as 'Siphons' or, as many of the younger generation came to call them, 'Vamps', were the ones behind the illegal distribution of this substance. They could steal the 'essence' from someone, temporarily rendering them powerless for a short time until the essence could restore itself. A essence that could be stored in tubes once it was extracted from the victim, and like the original form of the drug, be injected into the body, boosting one's power or abilities for a limited time... but...
Over time, with excessive use, the body would come to crave it. Need it.
Mina was one of those very people. Now, she was a foot soldier for the organization she worked for. Her name nearly infamous at this point, being responsible for countless abductions of carefully selected people with special or unique powers... And even people who had never been exposed. Children, young men or women... even the girl from the picture. With each passing year, the number of 'normal' people was rapidly diminishing. Creating a fear. People feared for their safety, lived in groups. 'Clans' were formed for protection purposes.
It only slowed the crime rate.
Slowly, she repeated the address over and over in her head.
Venus Zavayae Fenix had no idea what was coming her way, and perhaps it was best that way... but what was the fun in that? The chase, after all was always the best part.
