"Honey, maybe you should take a bus. O-Or maybe a train".
"Heh, no thanks mom. Those are for weaklings!"
"Well at least wait a bit so we can get you a bike".
"No bikes either. This is my final test of training to see if I am ready for my first Pokemon. If I can't make it to Pallet on my own two feet before the day arrives, then I know I am not ready yet. Well, ill see you later!"
Fuschia City was incredibly far away from Pallet Town and that was on bike. By foot it was twice as far, but to Reno this was training. To be one with a Pokemon and fight side by side one needed to possess all different kinds of strength. He had been training for a while in martial arts and even decided to apply himself more at school. He even sometimes helped his mother at the Safari Zone. All of this was in preparation for this one auspicious day, the day where he would leave his home and go and see the world. He wouldn't be seeing the world alone. No. He would be seeing it with a Pokemon at his side. A companion, a friend, a partner, and a comrade. That was what his Pokemon would be to him. He knew that he couldn't afford to have any weakness.
Body. To be strong in the body meant one could endure any hardship. But physical strength is more than just simple toughness. It is developed through the hardship of training and thus the more one possesses, the greater an understanding of hardship they possess. It also allows one to endure pain as well. If he was going to be fighting alongside a Pokemon he knew that the battles would bring his partner pain. He wanted to be strong physically so perhaps he could understand that pain himself as well. Understand the hardship that he would no doubt he and his partner would go through with each and every match.
Mind. Strength of the mind means to not only be perceptive and be able to think quickly, but it also means being capable of understanding one another. In battles he would need to be able to understand and see not only the strengths and weaknesses of an opponent, but also the strengths and weaknesses of his own Pokemon as well. Being able to understand his Pokemon's feelings so that they could grow closer with one another was also very important. He wanted to be in sync with his new partner, so he would need to have a strong mind to do so.
Heart. Also known as Will or Spirit. The journey will indeed by hard. Reno knows that if he doesn't possess the heart to go on this journey then he will have no right to take a Pokemon on as his partner. The ability to endure and triumph over hardship comes from the body and mind. The ability to continue after enduring it comes from the heart. Not only that, but if his own heart is not strong then the strength of his own partner will be diminished as well, and that was something he would never allow.
Reno may be young, but he was going to go on this journey with a Pokemon and the long trek to Pallet Town from Fuschia was just the test he needed to make himself take to prove to himself that he is worthy of going on this journey. Was he over thinking things? Probably. Was there anything wrong with that? Of course not. He wanted to see the results of his training over the years and this was the best way to go about doing so. After having said goodbye to his parents he left. It was the start of his journey. A whole wide world lay ahead of him with all sorts of great strengths in it and he was just dying to see it.
That was three weeks ago. Three long weeks. Many of those long days were spent walking. Nights were spent camping, meditating, or training. He had packed light as well, not carrying too much on him. A few times he had gotten lost and had to resort to survival skills to get back on track. After all, traveling with a Pokemon meant wandering through the wilderness, so he studied how to survive within it. Luckily the Safari Zone was a great training ground for such a skill. Lucky for him though there were plenty of cities along the way to stop in. In fact, the longest stretch of his journey without them was after he had left Fuschia City.
He only stayed within the cities for a day, except Saffron City. He had to stay there a few days when he had gotten a small bit under the weather after getting caught in an unexpected rain storm. Of course, that was not all that had gotten in his way as well. A few times he had the unfortunate chances of encountering wild Pokemon with no choice but to retreat. Some let him go, but a few others pursued him. He didn't fight them at all though as he knew that was crazy. Needless to say the journey was very long. Roads were not everywhere so he had to take shortcuts through the wilderness many times.
After the long three weeks ended though he began to wonder if he was ever going to make it. Luckily the town was in his sights. His somewhat tired eyes widened as his worn out legs quickly sped into a run. A grin formed on his face as he adjusted the goggles on his head to see if he was truly seeing things. No, indeed he wasn't. He was here, and just in time too according to his PokeNav, a present his parents gave him for his 11th birthday. It really was a great tool and it was a huge help in getting him there, especially with its mapping functions.
Pushing that out of mind though was just a single thought. He was going to get his new Pokemon and then his journey would begin. His real journey. He had passed the test and now he could truly travel the world now. As one who looked to the future the future was so bright that he would have to squint just to see it normally, but despite that his eyes were wide opened, looking straight into that bright future without even closing his eyes a little. Of course, maybe if he stopped staring into bright lights, he could see the road ahead of him, or more accurately the person he was about to slam into.
"Yea, Pokemon Journey, here I co--"
Luckily his reflexes were pretty sharp. His shout of glee was interrupted when he saw a boy and a girl, walking together, right in his path. His eyes widened and instead of slamming right into them from behind, as he was mere inches from doing so, he did a side step and moved quickly around them to the path in front of them, turning around to look at the two of them for a moment. The blue-haired, goggle wearing boy looked as if he hadn't been under a roof in a while. There were twigs in his blue hair, dirt on his face, and his clothes seemed to have small rips in them here and there. He also had a bag on his back. It wasn't entirely too big, but it was big enough and meant to hold the necessary supplies he needed for his long trek here.
"Sorry 'bout that, Ill watch my way better next time".
After his quick apology he sprinted off once again, moving quite quickly down the road as he wanted to get to Oak's lab in time before it was too late. Of course, in reality he had no idea where he was going, but figured that he could find it if he just ran around enough. Fortunately the "strength" of "luck" was on his side as after running for a bit longer he managed to find it, or at least a building that looked something like a laboratory. Hoping he was in the right place he pushed open the door and walked inside, looking around as he did so. He then turned to the person nearest to him, who was a girl that had just arrived a very short bit after he did.
"Is this the Pokemon Lab? I just got here from Fuschia so I am incredibly lost".
