Let us take a trip down memory lane, back to when you were 15 and Pearl came into your life like an unwanted addiction, to when you were 12 or 13 and Gold and Silver was the fresh new thing you just had to have... further back to when it all began (at least for those of us across the pond) when you were 8 and you were presented with a brand new Gameboy colour and a copy of Pokemon Red
You were the winner of that particular story and as the credits rolled you never thought about the loser.
This is his story.....
His hair stood on end as if electrified, no, because it WAS electrified. He gave a high laugh hastily stifled with a furtive glance to the other occupants of the room. Sheepishly running a hand across his head in a pointless attempt to tame his hair, his efforts doing little more than pushing the grease and sweat deeper into the tangled mass of blue locks.
Occupants, a nice way of putting it. Could corpses occupy anything?... Physical space.... or perhaps being a corpse was an occupation. Imagine the tax returns.... blank... a second shrill laugh cut short with a hand clasped over his mouth and a nod of respect to those nearest him.
He didn't believe they were corpses, just some trick of Jolt's, the naughty bugger always up to mischief when he should be working, training, that was the reason they'd- A spark of anger lit the touch paper of a bitter memory, fizzling into a blazing inferno, a bonfire of frustrated rage.
He snatched Jolt from his plinth, the Pokemon's mouth wide, an oozing, bloated tongue dangling lopsidedly, head swaying sickeningly as he shook him violently to wake him, to force him to respond, to force those glassy eyes to stop staring at him. His fists clenched, not noticing as his fingers pierced the putrid flesh, maggots beginning their undulating path up his arm as he screamed.
"Get up... wake up you lazy bastard... always pissing around..... you're the reason we lost. You were too weak..."
He swirled dizzily an accusatory finger pointing to the room, crossing 86 little plinths, bodies large and small all with their eyes facing him, judging him, condemning him.
"All of you... you made me leave you and now I'm-"
The word never left his lips. The anger fading away as quickly as it had come and he clutched the frail little body to him oblivious to the cracking of tiny ribs, tears pouring down his cheeks.
"I'm sorry... I'm so, so sorry."
Spring was a beautiful time of year in the Brown's, a warm sunny morning, the deep earthy smell highlighted by the fragrant aroma of fresh blooms, the chirping of new born Pidgey punctuated by the shouts of young children, who wound their way through the spring wheat chasing a stray Butterfree . The old timer smiled as he watched them before turning to the task at hand.
"Come on, Sandy... dig."
The Pokemon twisted it's head to look up at him with a skeptical "Sand-Shrewww"
"Huh, your telling me, but if I'm working you're working you lazy git."
Its dry skin crinkled mournfully as it curled into a ball with a low "shrew" of discontent barely heard over an excited cry from the children as the Butterfree swooped just out of reach.
"But I tell you what... Sal's making her cherry pie tonight and if you get to work I may be able to swipe you a slice."
The Pokemon flipped upwards a small lick on it's trainers cheek before it somersaulted and plummeted into the earth below, claws burrowing through the earth like butter.
"That's the way our kid, don't do something for nothing at our age," chuckled the old timer, turning as the children dashed away past him, hell bent upon capturing another errant member of the bug population. He gave a little grin eyes, falling upon the ring of houses at the very centre of the farmland, the legacy of his great great great great great great great (sod it he'd stopped caring when he was 12) something or other, or as everyone knew him, Bobby Brown, a farmer that had gained enough wealth to buy up all of the farmland east of Viridian City.
At its centre he had built a ring of 10 houses a little safe haven for his family to live in, yet as time went on, through prosperity or poverty the land had been sold and other families had moved in, yet the family atmosphere remained, doors remained unlocked and Pokemon were leant to neighbours to help with tasks to which they were suited. Even know he could see Jim bringing his Scyther to work on their own spring wheat for harvest.
Even when the outer lands had been split creating 2 new farms on the outskirts all had bought in to the culture of the Browns except the newest.
He was no farmer... that he knew. He had bought the old barn and an acre of land for himself off Kay for a price no one could refuse. Something about him felt wrong, even though he had never seen him, no because he had never seen him.... but he'd heard him, heard him screaming in his sleep.
"I'll give you anything... just let them live."
If you have read this far... thank you... if your not encouraged to read further, a note or pm to say why not would really be appreciated. I have gm'd a few times however I always appreciate a review even if it isn't positive to let me know what to do better next time.
If you are encouraged amazing and thanks again... just a couple of notes
I am looking for 4-6 players for this rp. I want this to go long haul and this is simply because after the main story concludes (if everyone is willing) , I plan to take it on to your standard journey of lets get the badges and crown a champion. If it really takes off we will go from kanto to johto and take it on from their. I say 6 as though I could handle more through the main story I would struggle to handle more in the likely event you wish to do different things and go in different directions.
The format and nature of the rp makes it very very easy to slide characters in and out as needed and drop outs are natural. If you do need to drop out let me know if it will be permanent or temporary and I will arrange accordingly.
Standard rules apply, that can all be paraphrased under don't be a dick and if it comes to a debate my word will be final.
I will not be a stat nazi, i will not be spread sheeting your xp according to criteria, your pokemon will level up at your own rate if you say it's levelled up fine by me. Unless you take the piss, then I will take over. If you can write at the level I'm looking for I'm sure you can keep yourself in check as well. If in doubt on decisions like this pm me and we will set the boundaries.
As with the stats combat between yourselves and who gets what will be sorted between yourselves via pm or in the ooc. If you wish to stage mock battles or practices between yourselves feel free to create a post together, interactions between yourselves are very much encouraged. I trust you to reach an agreement on the victor amicably and any arguments that can't be should be brought to me and will be solved by a flip of a coin. However I will try to offer the loser a good point to sweeten the taste of defeat.
On health, we will assume health is restored after use of a potion if you have one, at a pokemon centre, or after a good nights sleep (which will not always be found)
In addition I will only allow one pokemon to be used at a time for now, simply because I believe as young trainers you would struggle to manage two or three battles at once. Added it means I don't need to make up 12+ opponents to cover everyone.
This is an independent interpretation of some events that could have transpired after the credits roll on Pokemon Red. I will draw in a few things from the anime and the manga to enhance the story however I am taking a very loose interpretation of things. For all intents and purposes Ash and Gary sadly never were ( I have done this simply because I feel it would be too distracting to use those two charactors as they have such a beautifully established story which I have no intention of sticking too)
Set a few months after the credits roll on pokemon red ie ( the elite 4 has just been beaten and Red is now champion of the Elite 4 only to find his rival Blue has beaten him there and battle commences with blue defeated. Red obviously goes swanning a
round beating those pesky last few trainers and trying to complete his pokedex... this is Blue's story, a story of death and rebirth that sucks in the children of a small farming community whose only crime was being close to indigo plateau.... you guys
The Brown's are a farming community that runs east of pallet town and Viridian city, cut off from Viridian City by Viridian Forest. It's an insular farming community that exclusively uses a variety of pokemon in order to accomplish the day to day tasks of farming. The inner 10 have been together for almost 10 generations and due to the communities self sufficient nature, it runs a far stricter regulation of it's children than normal households born by a generation where all the children went on to become pokemon trainers and the farms were understaffed and were almost ruined.
At 10, they line up with the other children and register for the pokemon league yet unlike the others they do not receive a pokemon, they watch and wait for their turn. When they return the sons receive their fathers pokemon, the daughter's their mothers (twins have never been an issue to this day and everyone has decided to whistle and look the other way at the flaw in the logic til it bites them mmmkay).
The pokemon is not theirs by right but theirs to study and learn the ways of farming with pokemon and to train and care for their pokemon individually. It is a long training exercise that culminates on the sunday after the harvest is brought in when the children are aged 13, an age when they are considered mature enough to go out alone. They take their parent's pokemon, a town map, a high value coin card and 1 pokeball and are sent into the world, to find a pokemon of their very own in a test of endurance, skill and self belief . The pokemon they find reflects their soul and is the pokemon that they will carry with them and train for the rest of their life.*
It is a difficult journey full of goodbye and tearful moments for the Brown's are smart and the credit chip prevents the wilier of their daughters from purchasing pokeballs of any kind, the idea being that they learn the value of each pokemon and the one they end up with is truly special.
Unlike other children they are not forced to bond with a pokemon they may not like or want, whose personality grates upon them or whose abilities frustrate them because of lack of numbers they are given a sample of the world, a chance to explore but also an opportunity to come home if it does not suit them. On the sunday before harvest they return with their pokemon, a knowledge of who they are and what the world is outside. They are then asked to do one planting and one harvest before they can choose to leave or remain in the Brown's to farm.
Some leave some stay, yet each emerge from the Brown's with a full knowledge of what they will be going to and what they will be missing if they leave and how to care properly for their pokemon and themselves regardless of their decision.
(*please note: you are not condemned to one pokemon over the course of the rp (this is just to give us a manageable beginning before it escalates) and you will be able to catch as many as you like after the first few posts and throughout the course of the rp... to begin with I will be introducing the wild pokemon and calling catches etc but as the rp develops you will have alot more of a say)
Some basic fun facts regarding the world as a whole
Red has becomes Champion and Lance is now a member of the elite four. Agatha is scheduled to become the leader of Viridian City within the next few weeks in accordance with Giovanni's resignation.
We will assume that Blue has only suffered two defeats as Gary did, to Giovanni and Mewtoo and to Red at Indigo Plateau.
Giovanni remains unknown as the leader of team rocket to the general populace though red is aware
Giovanni still controls Mewtwo
I will write up a charactor sheet if I get interest however just to give you an idea of the sort of charactor you will be playing
Male or female
Aged between 13-14 (this was decided just to give a little more complexity, i find angsty teenagers a little more interesting to play than 10 year olds even with highly powered Pokemon and a dream)
Have just returned from their journey to locate their soul mate, they embark on their first and possibly final planting with their new pokemon your charactors will be forced from the path by events they could never have imagined.
Once again ,thanks for reading..... Really hope to see some interest... any questions don't hesitate to pm me
