Susumu is loyal to the people that help him, and will always find a way to pay back his end of the bargain. He seems like he silent type but he craves conversation, he enjoys speaking about tactics and loves giving advice to people no matter what situation, if relationship, tactics, friend issues, Susumu will lend a hand, but in return he expects you to listen. Susumu is also very hard on himself at times, if he believes he could have done something better he would insult himself and say “maybe I am not as mature as I thought”. He also over thinks things and his thoughts collide with each other.
The Susumu that was there is no gone. After the death of his father figure that done by young Genin himself he has come over a dramatic change because of what happened in arc 6. He has grew more silent, and does not bother speak his mind and only speaks when spoken to, he has become more calm now and doesn't become frustrated as much. He believes what he wants and lets nobody turn him away from his beliefs. He keeps to himself and does not bother with anyone else. He has become a bit more stubborn and he doesn't beat himself up anymore instead he trains and doesn't moan about his loss.
Susumu lived in Sunagakure with his mother and father, his father was a Jounin of Sunagakure and was mostly out on missions, so he had no time with family, Susumu’s mother would always curse after his father for never wanting to settle down for not being there, she felt like a single mother most of the time. When Susumu saw is father his eyes would light up with joy looking forward to the stories, and the teaching of jutsu his father knew off by hand and in addition found useful. Susumu’s father used many fire release techniques for the reason being his family knew many fire release jutsu and found it easier to master. However, Susumu’s father would mostly teach Susumu to use earth release techniques. His father would always say, “It is ok being able to throw punch, but it is useful being able to take one” those words Susumu would treasure always and the teachings. It was at the age of 10, Susumu stopped seeing his father, he had heard rumours of his father dying in a mission, but most rumours that were spread had a different story, his father fleeing the village that was the rumour people found more convincing.
His mother would not let him study in the academy so a year later he ran away from his home, from Sunagakure, “I will not let her use me, it is my life, and I do with it as I please!” He reached all the way to the land of waves on foot, and fell to his knees in exhaustion, lack of food, lack of water, he thought he would die so he laid his head on the ground and fell into a deep sleep, to wake up in the middle of night being carried on the back of a stranger. He remained silent for an hour until the stranger said, “I know your awake” Susumu’s eyes widened with shock, “how did you know?” Susumu asked. “Because I’m old,” the man replied, followed by a chuckle. He turned revealing his face, his hair short grey and bushy, his face wrinkled but slender, the tip of his chin hoisted with a sharp grey goatee. “Say lad why are you out here?” the old man asked still holding his gentle warm smile. To which Susumu replied: “To be a shinobi,” His eyes lowered and his mouth turned to a frown. “Just because you’re old don’t think you can take me home, because I will not be going back, I will become a Shinobi I will train hard and I will… I will.” the boy could not hold his tears any longer and he started to cry.
The old man felt sorry for the lad, he too remembered his youth, but he could not carry the boy home after the boy refused to go home and after all, he did not know where the boy was from. “Lad, do you really want to be a shinobi?” the old man asked. “Yes” Susumu replied after sniffling and wiping his tears. “I am Fumio Yammato, I fought in the Shinobi war a long, long time ago I have seen death, I have seen blood, I have tears.” “Who are you?” “Susumu, sir” Susumu replied while wiping nose with his sleeve. “Susumu, it seems you can’t be persuaded, now suffer the price for your answer, for this night you train to be genin and hope to exceed to an Anbu. Yammato tilted Susumu off his back and threw all his things on him. “Get up you pathetic worm, and move with everything”. Susumu quickly hurried to his feet lifted the heavy backpack, “Hurry up worm, if I die and you have no clue on how to defend yourself we will die.” Yammato kept barking at the lad even when the lad did as he said. This would be the beginning of a hard firm teacher student or father son relationship. On that night, Susumu would have to endure a lot of training and take in so much knowledge and travel, until the age of 13 when he reaches entrance to Amegakure.
