Since man first took a bite out of the forbidden fruit and gained knowledge, Magi have existed. Even since their first days of existence, they fought among one another in order to prove their worth, their values, and their power. As a result, those less fortunate to not be blessed with the power of knowledge were used as 'tools' for the Magi and their creation of the first 'justified' crime; War. These wars claimed the lives of men, women, children, old, young, sick, healthy... none were spared with this horrendous concept. Millions died just to attempt to satisfy the Magi, yet they were never satiated. Until, a group of Magi decided to create something out of the blood of the eaters of the forbidden fruit, and the corpses of a hundred sacred and rare creatures in an attempt to end all wars, no matter who won it...
...the Holy Grail.
This item was capable of manipulating the threads of fate and destiny, allowing anyone to have the wish that they so wanted. Infinite wealth, endless lust, mighty power, or true justice... anything that one would desire was capable of being granted by the Holy Grail that was crafted. Undoubtedly, any who won the grail would ask for something selfish, thus ending all wars. This was the plan that those who crafted the Holy Grail had in mind.
Yet, the underestimated the Magi. In order to make things 'fair' and more 'entertaining', the Magi gathered and performed a mighty ritual that would bound the energy of all the world's legends and myths to fight for them as their servants and slaves. This even would later become known as the War of the Magi. Since this moment, the rule of secrecy was made to ensure the war would not become public knowledge, and to avoid the non-gifteds from interfering and taking the Holy Grail for themselves.
For centuries, everything went smoothly… yet, there was never a winner. In order to break this cycle of endless warfare, the Vermal, Kuyora, Diederich, Calnans, and the Asmodeas families decided to create a weapon that would be capable of securing them the Holy Grail for their own selfish needs; The Lance Of Longinus. To demonstrate the lance’s mighty powers, the five families used to slay the strongest Servant; the Son of God. Not only did it remove him from our world, but from Akasha as well, the Root of All Beginnings. It was almost assured that the five families would claim the Holy Grail… until something that no one thought possible happened.
All across the world Masters and Servants gathered together and formed the very first truce since the history of the Holy Grail Wars, and with it the founding of the Circle of Sages, which to this very day helps those with promising potential to becoming full-fledged Magi. With this mighty force, the Five Families and the Circle of Sages clashed, which ultimately led to the defeat of the Five Families, and the destruction of the Lance of Longinus. With the god-slaying weapon destroyed, the truce ended, and the Magi turned to their wars once again.
However, the Holy Grail became sentient after these events, and developed a mind of its very own in fear of being destroyed. And so, it turned into hiding for hundreds of years… until it finally found and summoned the perfect Servant to protect it, and to be its Reclaimer; a mighty and unmatched hero adorned in full silver armor whose true name was unknown. The name that this man gave, was simply Savior, the Messiah.
Relocating the Holy Grail into the unmolested and pure city of Spero, Savior announced to all Magi the location of the Holy Grail, and declared that he would be the overseer of this Holy Grail War… and that it was finally time for someone to win it and have their wish granted. Whomever shall win the Holy Grail... will forever change the course of History.
The question is... will that someone, be you?
Standing down the aisle of the grand chapel of Spero by the altar, stood a well-built blond man wearing a white long-coat. His blue eyes and calm face were focused intently on the book held within his hand. Without moving a single muscle, his eyes dashed through the pages, before pausing upon a single stanza. Clearing his throat, and standing tall, the man moved his lips as he read the poem from which the stanza was located.
"Come yee, masters of war,
You, that build all the guns,
You, that build the death planes,
You, that build the big bombs,
You, that hide behind walls,
You, that hide behind desks....
I think you will find,
When your death takes its toll,
All the money you made,
Will never buy back your soul...."
With a short pause as he studied the poem, a subtle, yet sad smile emerged upon the man's face, before closing the book and placing it upon the altar. Running his hand along the altar's edges, and staring at the stained glass, the man spoke into the air.
"If that is true... then I, too, can never buy back my soul for orchestrating this. Whether my soul is black or not, I shall see to it that there be no soul dirtier than mine after this... and that this war for you be the last one to exist," murmured Savior as he slid his hand from the altar and glanced towards the entrance of the chapel. "The contenders should be summoning their familiars very soon... Well then, I suppose it is time for the Holy Grail War to begin here in the peaceful town of Spero..."
He had chose this location specifically for its purity, its many mana ley-lines, and its seclusion from the outside and tainted world. Even though he regretted placing the Holy Grail in this uneventful and kind city, he knew it to be the best in order to contain any chaos that the Holy Grail War may cause. Closing his eyes, Savior gave a small prayer for the town, hoping that the Masters and the Servants who would heed his call would not cause chaos to those who were unaware of the war.
Letting off a subtle sigh, Savior made his way to the back room, and then towards the chapel bell. Reaching the top tower where the bell was contained, Savior reached out with his hand, and grasped the rope tied to the mighty bell. Without hesitation, he rung the bell ten times... signaling the start of the Holy Grail War.
"...and with this, I, Savior, Servant of the Holy Grail and Overseer, hereby announce that the final war for the Holy Grail has begun."
