So like Sora, I am a cheater cheater with the ruler creator and made a beastly ruler for myself. I started off as a Countess of AWESOMENESS of Desmond, the southernmost county of Ireland. Countess Caissene Ua Fergail ( Countess Koh-Seen. Let's call her Cosy/Cozy for short ) started out using her beguiling looks and vast intrigue skills to begin manipulating the political landscape of Ireland. She sent her chancellor to fabricate claims on northern lands, and by convincing other counts in the area that he needed to be disposed of, she raised an army and took his lands, and established for herself a Petty Kingdom. Her allies in this war joined her as a vassal without issue.
The next on her expansion was a true foreigner, a Norseman, a Viking, a wretched conqueror. Obviously the next guy to conquer, amirite? While fabricating claims further north, she got hitched to her marshal, and began having him prepare to the troops for a holy war, Irish Catholics against Norse uh... Aesir worshippers. Pagans. Anyway, using some funds she had gained from more taxes from having more vassals, she hired some mercenaries, sent her husband, and then subsequently rode into battle herself, taking war to the warriors, and defeating them. At this time the fabricated claim was made, and so she moved in with her already raised armies to take another county.
This pattern kinda repeated for a bit until she owned most of Ireland. That was when the elder came. That's when she met her wizard.
And had him forcibly convert away from the pagan faith.
But then she met another wizard and was nicer to this guy, listening to him talk about his gods, before she agreed to begin performing some of the rites and customs of the ancients. When confronted by her clergy, she scoffed at the notion of only one god, and became a pagan herself.
This opened up a lovely can of worms, as see, the pagans kind of get this unrestricted warfare, and a penalty if they AREN'T at war often enough, to contrast how the other faiths get penalties if they ARE at war too much. Using this notion, she was able to quickly take over more and more of Ireland before she made herself ruler of it all.
While the idea of having unlimited war was rather nice, the prospect of dignity was kind of missing now. Not just for her, but for the faith. She could yell at the people to convert, but she's just this unreformed pagan. She had to legitimise the faith, maybe not on the same level as the Catholics, but make it more cultured if nothing else. She turned her eyes to the Petty Kingdom of The Isles, the Kingdom of Scotland, and the various Petty Kingdoms of Wales. They contained important holy sites that if unified under her control could be used to exert the authenticity and legitimacy of the faith.
Using the unrelenting power of an ever eager and ever expanding army, growing in berserkers, barbarians, sellswords, and other less reputable figures, and her own vassals and the levies of a growing nation, she led bloody battle with her husband across Scotland, while her chancellor fabricated some claims in Wales, specifically on the desired holy ground. It was a long fought war, but eventually she was victorious, and found herself Overqueen of Ireland and Scotland. She temporarily retired to let her retinues regrow in full, instead of the short breaks for childbirth she had before.
It was then she found her lover, a young courtier. A woman like her. So they had tons of lesbian sex, if I'm to understand it. Getting less of the sex himself, her husband got his own mistress, which Cosy did not approve of. In that she ended up killing her horribly after finding the bastard child. Fun times.
Anyway, her husband was no longer trusted as a marshal, and was stripped of his titles and lands, as wars to maintain control of Scotland began. The new Marshal was a girl like herself, and pushing for something quite odd, she began to alter the fundamental laws of the kingdoms, and slowly she was able to bribe and assassinate her way to secure the law change she wanted. Absolute Enatic Succession. Women inherit, men do not. No son of hers would get her titles, as was law of the land, only her daughters could, of which there were three. Her oldest son was angered by this, but the youngest was too young to even understand. To appease him, she gave him a small plot of land within a realm owned by his younger brother. In time, the younger brother would grow up loyal to his mom, eventually waging the war she wanted against his older brother, stripping him of everything, and leaving him to rot in jail.
She arranged a lovely lady to marry him in response.
With Scotland at this point secure under her crown, she moved in to invade Wales, a much easier target to take and to hold. The holy ground fell first as per her plans, as nearly 30 thousand men and women marched for gold and glory, and for the gods. With the authority and power of the church under her confirmed, she reformed the faith, commissioning writers take down her beliefs on what the pantheons of the Celts were like, formalizing the traditions and beliefs, as taught to her by her friend, the wizard. When he died of old age during the process, she took it upon herself to become the religious head of the faith, and forcibly converted at the sword and in exchange for gold, every courtier, every vassal, and every noble she could get her hands on, setting the new Druidic priests into the streets to convert the populace. Such has been a slow process.
However, this fledgling theocracy was still weak. Threats of the Christians of the south, and the Vikings of the east battered on the Gaelic doors. There were still other ancestral lands of the Celts, the continental Celts who were before the franks now living there, and the Spaniards and Muslims even further south in Iberia. The easiest one to grab, was also the closest one. The Bretons were still Celtic, and they were at war. Using her connections, and her formidable army, she secured an alliance with one of the warring Petty Kings of Brittany, helping him secure his land. Her children as pawns, and her plotting as a sword, she was able to secure a claim for a child, and had them inherit upon the sad demise of every one else who had a claim, and then the claim holder.
This last Petty Kingdom under her control, she was able to create the title that it truly deserved with her power, the true Kingdom of Brittany. Holding power over now 4 dejure and authentic kingdoms, Cosy was able to do one last thing to secure not only her power, but the power of the faith, as she established the Celtic Empire, a matriarchal theocracy, the last bastion of the children of Danu, and a true strong affront to any heretical Catholic who would dare think of the Celtic Faith as dead.
And so it came to pass, that in about 30 years, Countess Caissene Ua Fergail of Desmond, became Ard Banrion Caissene I of the Celtic Empire.
Fuck all the haters.
