A Cyberpunk/Dystopian RP
It was business as usual in the floating arc-city of Relicum. In the upper city, the Elite enjoyed the pleasures of an easy life. Clubs, restaurants, cafes and all manner of other entertainments were theirs to enjoy. And enjoy them they did. Down in the sub-city, the working class toiled away in the countless factories and plants that filled the bowels of the city. It was the beating heart of Relicum, and it was those workers who kept the city alive. Yet still they lived in poverty. Oppression was the word of law in the sub-city. Massive holographic billboards spewed constant propaganda, reminding the working class of their place, that it was part of the natural order that they should serve the upper class. Only in the Upper city did the holographic billboards speak truth. Among the many advertisements for newly opening entertainments, a fancily dressed man presented the daily news.
Without warning every holographic display in the city changed. Advertisements, propaganda and the News was all replaced by a face. The sudden interruption of the scheduled broadcast cause people everywhere, Elite and Working Class alike, to stop what they were doing, overcome with curiosity. A hooded man stood in a darkened room, the lower half of his face was masked by a cybernetic respirator. When he looked into the camera, his right eye was white and blind, crossed by a savage scar. When he spoke, his voice was metallic, mechanical but conversational.
"Good morning, residents of Relicum." The man said, with a slight nod of his head. "I am Kain, leader of the Judicium Dei. I am the instrument of your judgement. Over two hundred years ago God rendered his judgement upon a sinful world, but your forefathers rejected his judgment. They built this abomination you call a city and tried to ascend to the heavens. They denied God, yet tried to enter his realm. And now you live in this floating tomb, wallowing in sin." Kain shook his head. "Greed, Gluttony, Sloth, Lust, Envy, Wrath and worst of all Pride. Pride drove your ancestors to build this city. And now Pride will be the cause of your destruction."
Kain stepped aside and the room lit up, revealing two things. First was a man, gagged and on his knees, with his hands bound behind his back. The second was a device. It was massive and looked like metal hourglass inside an egg of machinery. "The man you see here is Dr Stanley Greene, a scientist, inventor and engineer. Behind him is his creation. This device, when activated will explode with enough power to destroy this sinful city." Kain re-entered the shot, now standing behind Dr Greene. He was wearing a long black coat and held his hand clasped behind his back. "Dr Greene's sin was Pride. When we approached him and offered to finance the creation of this device, he was blinded by his pride. He didn't question our motives. Pride was his sin..." Kain brought one hand from behind his back, revealing the pistol held in it. He placed the pistol to the back of Greene's head and pulled the trigger. Greene's head exploded, much to the horror of those watching, and he slumped to the ground, dead.
"...And he has now been judged for it." He said, returning the gun to behind his back. "Now it is your turn. Soon we will have what we need to complete this device, and then this wretched city will end. So I say to all you sinners now. Finish your business, say farewell to your loved ones and repent for your sins. Prepare yourselves, Relicum, for your Judgment Day is coming." There was a slight pause before the feed cut briefly to static and then returned to it's original broadcasts. The news was chaos. The presenter sat in front of the camera talking animatedly to his producer, trying to figure out what had happened. Down in the sub-city, the Propaganda returned, in the middle of a message that assured the masses that the Judicium Dei were nothing more that long dead bogeymen. All of Relicum was silent, as people didn't know how to react to what they had just seen.
