"If you saw a purple butterfly...what would you wish?
It was that time of the year again; The air was getting warmer, the flowers were awakening from their winter sleep, and the tailors were finishing up the last touches on the suits and dresses..Cause with the arrival of spring, came a new season. A season where hearts will be won and broken, where the power will change hands, as quickly as a dress can be changed. .
It was the the night of the grand ball; an event meant to welcome the new and old faces of the noble families, and to mark the start of a new season. It was not the largest of the many balls that would be held, but certainly one of the most important ones; First impressions were everything, so the most expensive gowns and the finest jackets could be seen on this night. And clad in said fine clothing, were several nobles and their relatives, and among them, gossip traveled fast. One of the favorite subjects, was the de Flores family; A wealthy family of death mages that, for the first time in seven generations, had produced a Life mage child, who they were bringing to court for the first time.
The family itself was dressed in dark-colored clothing, but at the front, led by her brother, was Ophelia. In sharp contract to her family, her dress was of a light-blue color, with several blue flowers pinned around the waist and the bottom. Small diamonds had been worked into the leaves of the flowers, so that it matched the shine of the pearl necklace that she wore around her neck. The shape of the dress complimented her narrow waist and long legs, the shade of the flowers matching her soft-hued blue eyes, that seemed to go on forever. The smooth dark brown hair had been pinned into a bun at the top of her head, sections of it having been left loose, in order to flow down her nimble shoulders.
Antino, who was leading her into the hall by arm, noticed this. Using his free hand, he gently lifted her head by the jaw, his nimble fingers caressing her cheek softly. "Why the long face, dear sister? Clad in an expensive dress, attending your first ball of your first season...you should, by all means, be grinning like a child". Smiling a bit, he rose back up, straightening his back. Unlike his sister, Antonio was clad in a dark suit, wearing a simple necktie as the only accessory. The necktie had the same color as his eyes; a strong shade of forest-green.
With a voice coated in a gentle tone, and shy eyes looking around, the sixteen-year old Ophelia, at the mere height of 5'5, tugged the sleeve of her older brother, lowering her gaze for just a moment. "There are..a lot of people, brother", she whispered back, forcing on a smile as their parents looked at them from between the crowds.
With a deep and almost soothing chuckle, he brushed a hand across her cheek, leading her to a long table that had been decorated with trays of fruit. As they stopped moving, the contrast in their clothing, made Ophelia's dress and fair skin stand out slightly more...which was the intention. Right now, he was nothing but an accessory for his sister; nothing more than a tool for his parents, in order to made their little "jewel" shine even more. Not that his parents mattered much at the moment..
Offering Ophelia a piece of apple, he turned his attention to the crowds; What kinds of people would be attending this season?
(written from my Ipad, so sorry for typos^^. I'm thinking that this is before the king and queen arrives, so it should give us time for our characters to mingle).
