(int) The Rescue
The year is 2030. They have been here for half a decade -- floating in deep orbit, out of reach of any but the most determined efforts. Until they burned Canaveral, we might have been out of their reach as well. Sure, they made their attacks on Earth. They're strong, no one would deny it, but their technology was built for space. By the time they got here, we'd been flying the skies of earth for a century, and we're damned good at it. They crash down on us like waves, and we push them off like the shore, that's how it works. That's how it's always worked.
It's all changed now. When they got Canaveral, they got our biggest missile site. It never was enough to launch an attack on their ships, but the Atlas was dangerous enough to keep them honest. When it was gone, the greenies got brave. They moved in -- we made 'em pay, but they moved in, and they got their foothold on the surface. Still we threw them back. For every city we lost, we took out a dreadnought. And when they'd had enough, they pulled back.... but they got their foothold. And for a lot of people down here, that's enough to make 'em lose hope.
Well not us.
The invasion's here. Good. It was harder to kill 'em while they were hiding out in space. Green man's got a chokehold on Florida -- fine. We like 'em there. Generals been going to Florida to die since Cornwallis. Only strategic move they can make from the swamp is to surrender, and we'll have that white flag yet -- never doubt that. But there is one thing that this army will not allow. Maybe the green men have no concept of a civilian -- I never seen a green woman, or a green kid. But when they took captive the Jacksonville refugee camp, they crossed a line. That's a line that stays crossed, gentlemen, until we un-cross it. And that's exactly what we're gonna do.
Big Blue is gonna keep fighting the greenies in the sky, keep them from turning the tables on us, and keep the aliens all boxed up, nice and clean with a little bow on it. OUR job is to march into that box and get our people back. It will be hard. It will be dangerous. An incursion into green swamp will leave you cut off from support, so we will make it quick, and quiet, and that will take work. That will take creativity. That will take courage. That will take bullets, but, I know we've got plenty of those to spare. We're gonna punch the greenies in the balls and rescue our civilians, and maybe do some damage, long as we're there.
Now you've heard it said, failure is not an option. In this situation, men, it most certainly is. But win or lose this fight, the war only ends one way. General tweet-tweet-fuckin'-chirp-face runs crying back to outer space with a boot shoved so far up his ass, he can't look back unless he unties the laces first. That much, is a certainty. That much is a promise. In the meantime, men, women, and children will live or die because of what you do next. The human race is watching us, gentlemen. Don't disappoint them.
Rundown -- tech is advanced-modern, with some deeper notes to follow. Alien tech is superior in certain areas but not optimized for combat on Earth, so there are weaknesses to be exploited. It's gonna be a dirty-dozen-esque kind of story... team-building, training, and of course the mission. I have roles in mind, but also open to suggestion, which again I'll fill in the gaps a bit more in the OOC thread, got some work to do on it all first.
Sounds fun. I would like to play a crazy cook with a history with explosives.

bumping. FWIW, the rescue plan is somewhat set (room for plot developments certainly), and I'll make enough of that clear during the OOC to aid in character creation. In the interest of tension, I'm withholding some of the info.
You have my attention. I enjoy me some sci-fi warfare, 'specially the military realism kind.
I'll take any role you've got, but I'm a Marine and a techie so I'd prefer to play to my strengths.
