Welcome to Ouroboros Academy, situated in the beautiful city of Limbo within the realm of Purgatorium, where all other worlds and dimensions meet.

You will be playing as a student, either brand new and bright eyed to the Academy, or returning student, knowledgeable in it's workings. Through your years here, you will face some of the best and the worst that everyone has to offer. Some will find love. Some will find nothing but heartache. Between the rivalry of Jormungand Academy, the tensions between certain races, and the rollercoaster that is teen life, your days will be far from easy. But then, that's not necessarily a bad thing, now is it?

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Myth Academy OOC. Now as some of you may know, this is a modern day teen school RP with the added twist of every character being a creature or being from Mythology. What mythology? Any and all! There are a few restrictions here and there, but we are very laid back about what you're allowed to be. The story will follow your interactions with each other, school events that I will throw in, challenges from our rivals at Jormungand Academy, including sports events and sometimes just punks looking for trouble, free time spent together, and class trips before finally, end of the school year and perhaps graduation for some of you. Because of the focus on character dynamics, I will expect you to help carry some of the plot through your interactions with each other. Time warping will be done by myself if we need to move ahead for an event, and I heavily encourage you to develop relationships, both friendly and romantic, to help bring the drama and intensity up. See someone on a sports team? Join the team and become their rival. Or admire them from afar and try to work up the courage to ask them out. Here are the restrictions as they stand, and as the GM, I hold the right to alter these rules as new issues and points pop up. I also reserve the right to make exceptions if you all give me a convincing argument for something that you really want to play as.
1) Your character cannot be a murderous creature of foul intent. A vampire would rely on blood bought at the cafeteria, NOT from preying on fellow students. While I fully expect and encourage mature RP, this is not a brutally graphic RP, either in terms of violence or sexual nature. That said, if your particular race has many legends depicting it as a monster, there is nothing against you USING said legends to intimidate other characters or NPCs through their own ignorance of the truth.
2) You cannot bastardize the myth to the point of ridiculousness. As an example, vampires are killed by daylight. A pair of sunglasses doesn't cut it. A UV blocking umbrella, or full body clothing, however, is a perfectly acceptable way to block the sun. If the myth has a weakness, do not simply remove it for ease. Creatively think up a way around it. Want to play a mermaid but not sure how to move around on land? Get a wheelchair! Can't think of anything creative? Don't use that race. I am, however, more than willing to allow you to bend the legend to make it easier to play. If you're not sure about a change, just PM me and ask.
3) Your appearance is up to you. You can be as monstrous or human as you wish. An example would be a minotaur.is just as acceptable asbut bear in mind that the more bestial you are, the more you limit your interactions with other characters. An easy way to not limit yourself is to simply give yourself a human form. A unicorn may be able to transform into a beautiful woman or handsome man, but they have a horn growing from their forehead. Get creative!
4) Feel free to mix and match races, or alter them to make them more suitable for you. An example is a Centaur, which as most of you probably know, are half human/half horse. A variant could be half human/deer, or half human/scorpion, or half human/tiger. If you can't decide between two races, be the offspring of both.
5) You can't be a human with superpowers, UNLESS said human is something from mythology. As an example, a human can't have power over water. But an Undine could.
6) THIS IS NOT A COMBAT RP! The focus is on character interactions, dynamics, and relationships. As such, giving your character combat abilities or super powers will be a WASTE, as you will simply not find many reasons to use them without restrictions. Do not make Herculia, the Myrmidon of War and Ass-Beatery, because I will simply tell you to alter it. That is not to say there won't be fights, but the focus of the RP is not combat. You do not need a weapon. Do not carry one.
7) No specific individuals. You cannot be Hercules. You cannot be Thor.
These are not set in stone, and I will make exceptions IF you can prove that you have good reasons for making the changes. If however, you cannot come up with a race on your own, feel free to PM me, I will happily help you come up with an idea, as I'm VERY aware of a lot of mythological beings.
Other rules, I think a majority of these will be self explanatory.
1) Since the focus is character interaction, friendships, rivalries, relationships, love, and hate are all HEAVILY encouraged. Make it fun, exciting, and dramatic! Two unlikely lovers can make for some really intense roleplay between the players. Just as two rivals can get rather heated. But keep it PG-13. Do not graphically describe a sexual scene.
2) This isn't free roleplay. There will be no one liners, and this is one of the few things that I will not flex on. You will put effort into your post, at least a paragraph at the bare minimum. If you put a one liner, I will probably immediately ask you to delete it and try again. Do not ignore other people's posts because they don't fit your design, it is incredibly rude and sometimes hurtful to do so when someone is ignored.
3) This isn't advanced. I am not restricting how much you can write, but if you put a brick of text that has 7 paragraphs, describing in vivid detail with copious adjectives about how you entered the room and how your vermillion coat flutters and how absorbing your inner thoughts are, DON'T get angry if someone replies in one paragraph using very simple terms.
4) BE. NICE. I'm sure you are all very respectful and wonderful and kind folk. However, not everyone has the same idea of what is fun and appropriate. Do not yell at anyone for using a different writing style than you, do not argue with each other. If you truly TRULY must say something to another person, do it respectfully and don't be surprised or offended if they don't listen to you.
5) I am the law. I get final say in everything, and if I don't like something, you will understand and accept that, and move on. I will never simply shut you down without hearing your side of the argument. Never. And if I do, call me out on it. However, just because I listen doesn't mean I have to agree. I am giving you all quite a bit of creative freedom so as to maximize our enjoyment, but if I have to pull a GM boot out, I will.
6) The most important rule, HAVE FUN. You are doing this because it's fun, because we all enjoy roleplaying and interaction. Remember that.
Due to the nature of the students at Ouroboros Academy, certain races are restricted from certain sports, or put into groups to avoid advantages over others. Water spirits, such as Kappas, Nereids, and Mermaids are restricted in swimming competitions to compete against their own type. Winged beings are restricted from ground races, but are the only species allowed to compete in flying sports. Quadrupedal races of all types are restricted to competing with their own kind in all competitive racing sports.
The Academy has a very wide array of clubs that are student run and organized. As such, if you have a certain club you would like to be a part of, it's safe to assume it exists. Sports are all sports that are included in any high school, alongside two extras for the other species.
Flying Sports: As some species are able to fly, such as harpies and dragons, competitive flying races and aerial acrobatics have been implemented into the curriculum.
Jousting: Quadrupeds of all varieties are the only race allowed to partake in jousting, in which two armored competitors charge each other with blunted lances with the intent of knocking their opponent off balance or aiming at various locations on their shields for points.
Caster's Club A club where any species with magical ability may come together and start practicing magic. Pyromancy, Necromancy, you name it. This helps people control their magic and such. There is also a tournament held between schools for the Clubs, the winner being the individual who creates the best and most beautiful combination of enchantments and spells. The victor is given a Golden Staff and a Trophy.
If you have an idea for a new sport, or you're unsure if a club would be acceptable, PM it to me. If I like it, I'll add it to our little list and you can use it. And I like a lot of things.
16-20, you're at an academy that would be the equivalent of a high school for these beings, who would be teens. No one is 1000 years old. Minor exceptions can be made here and there, but you are all the equivalent of a teen. For most mythological beings, that means 16-20. That will also dictate your year within the school. 16 would be first year new student, 17 can be new or returning, 18-20 is returning, 19 can be final year or not, 20 is final year.
Male or female
A good description or image *or both if you want*. And by good description, I mean don't just put "He has black hair and green eyes.", that is a bad description. Put effort into it, what do you wear, hows your hairstyle look, are you thin, heavy, muscular, chubby, tall, short, busty? Do you have a special bow that you always wear? Remember that you're a unique snowflake just like everybody else.
Pretty self explanatory, no? Check the Club/Sports bit up top to see some unique sports ideas for some of the beings.
Human studies? Art? Physical Education, Science, Alchemy? Get creative, we have creatures made of fire and others that spit fire. Maybe you're taking Biology one period, and the Study of Magic Enchantments after? 8 Classes maximum, 6 Minimum. Those in sports don't need PE.
Friendly, shy, quiet, loud, annoying, happy, morose, explain a bit about your personality. I understand that these are rarely set in stone and a lot of times our characters can surprise us, so I fully expect alterations, changes, and adaptations as needed through the RP. This is just a basic idea.
Give us a bit of backstory. Who your family is, if they're still around, what realm or world did they come from, do you live in Limbo or the dorms at the school, if anything amazing happened in your life, did anything sad, happy, horrible, wonderful happen? We don't need a wall of text, and if you want to keep some stuff hidden for dramatic reveals later, be my guest, but we still need a bit of history.
I will try to maintain a character list on this first post for easy reference. If I forget to update anyone or anything like that, please tell me, and I will fix that. I will also try to keep a list of locations here as well, to make it easier for you guys to build the world we're in. If you create a location, such as a popular restaurant or landmark, simply mention it, and I will add it to the list. If you feel it's necessary, we can also create a map for the city of Limbo.
Gray - An incredibly ancient and powerful spirit and the respected Head of Ouroboros Academy. Gray has no gender, swapping between male and female in it's appearance depending on the situation. Often, Gray is seen walking the halls as an elderly individual in a scarlet sweater vest, leaning heavily on a black cane. It's appearance seems to depend entirely on the individual speaking to it. Gender and facial features differ from each account, but those who encounter the being always speak of how warm and kind the individual was to them. Seems to be very aware of how someone is feeling, but often plays ignorant.
Nasmine - The head of the gardens, patron of the Gardening Club, and the Advanced Creature Biology teacher, Nasmine is a beautiful Nymph who attracts a hefty amount of attention from the male student body. However, she is well liked by her students, as she goes out of her way to help them both individually and as a whole, often taking a personal interest in their well being. Elegant and polite, Nasmine frequently holds study sessions under the Dream Tree for struggling students in her biology classes. She is also the Steward of Dorm F-1. She has no last name, and doesn't mind students calling her by her name instead of Miss or Professor. She is often seen wearing simple tank tops and jeans, but when in the gardens, wears a pair of faded burgundy overalls.
Helsh Ories - The odd alchemy teacher, Helsh is a bald Cyclops who is frequently seen in a giant lab coat, often with burns and odd stains covering it. Helsh is the definition of an absent minded professor, and rumors are he's the reason the Arcane Building smells eternally like burned dirt. When questioned about the validity of this statement, the professor just starts giggling uncontrollably. However, despite his oddities, there is no one who understands alchemy and chemistry better than he. His students, however, tend to find his classes boring and sleep-inducing, as the eager scientist can rave for an entire period on the wonders of a single chemical compound, often forgetting that he's even in a classroom.
Excavior Volmont - A Malkavian vampire that is a bit of a jack of all trades. He is often the art teacher, but will occasionally substitute teachers who are ill or wish for a day off. He is also mostly the one who breaks up fights, plays as a councilor, and (very happily) conducts festivals and events. Like many Malkavian's, he is mentally insane, but controls such urges well with a calm smile. He talks oddly, mostly in riddles and never outright saying what he means. He may seem like a crazy, handsome young man, but holds much wisdom. He is often kind, weird, and gets a bit overly excited. Often wanders around when not teaching and gives some friendly advice to students who seem to need a push. Course, they need to figure out what he means. Has short messy black hair, about 7'0 foot tall, and wears a formal black suit with a red tie. Has very pale skin and crimson red eyes. Often tends to be a bit of a playful charmer, be it boy, girl, or a it.
Dina Tre - The centaur captain of the Jousting Team, Dina is a Clydesdale breed of centaur, making her exceedingly tall and large. Dark skinned, with long black hair often seen tied up, Dina is the top jouster of the heavyweight class. Her body is sculpted and mostly muscle. While very attractive, Dina has rejected most suitors outright, making many believe that her only love is jousting. Her dream is to become a professional jouster. She is very respected by the entire Jousting Team. However, her tough demeanor and almost militaristic running of the team causes most to find her intimidating and scary. Simon seems to be the only one who can speak against her at any given time without too bad of repercussions.
Lexin Dristol - The top Jouster of the lightweight class, Lexin is a favorite among the students for his showmanship and flashy style. Also known as a huge flirt towards all females of almost every race, Lex is a sweet hearted centaur who has a rigid set of morals. He treats all his opponents with respect, but he's also quick to anger, and is known as a bit of a scuffler in the Academy, frequently having Simon talk him down before he starts swinging.
Fi - A nervous and easily startled Dryad, Fi is one of the few who are able to enter the Restricted Glasshouse without being attacked by the plants. She is a very big fan of Nasmine, seeing the teacher as a role model to emulate.
Vayne Arroyo She is the President of the Swordplay Club, extremely chipper in her demeanor while she has no sword in her hands. Once a the weight of a hilt enters her palms she becomes a monster, fierce and competitive. She is fond of her Club members and greets all of them with welcoming hugs and smiles, treating them as if they were family. She is particularly fond of Voin's skill. She is a Tengu, with a female torso and head, while black feathers and clawed feet are her lower half. Her hair is long and black, her eyes are bright yellow. She is taller than average.
Zedilius "Zed" Mauchi - Vice President of the Aerial Acrobatics Club, he is good-natured, but serious about his team. He'll take any chance to get a good flyer into his ranks, and will take any flying challenge presented to him. He is a Harpy, with white feathers, light green hair held in a short pony tail, and grey eyes. He has a particularly long wingspan.
Diedos - Captain of the Aerial Racing Team. She is very two-faced, often appearing tranquil and calm, but when she is with her team in practices she is called the "Ice Queen". She demands excellence, and will push people hard to help them achieve it. However, when some one does exceptionally well, Diedos will praise them, bringing her enormous wings together to produce a thunderclap to congratulate them, which she is often embarrassed of doing. Diedos, affectionately called "Di Di" while not in practice-mode, is a Thunderbird. She has a wingspan of near thirty feet long, and indigo feathers covering her body. Along her wings the feathers fade slowly to magenta. Electricity constantly circulates through her wings as she flies. Her eyes are orange.
Fiona - Star track team athlete, Fiona is one of the undefeated track team members. A plain type unicorn, she stands around 5'8 with long flowing dazzling white hair that shines like the stars. Ice blue eyes, with a twisted horn in the middle of her forehead. Has very pale skin. She is snotty, and cocky, often letting others know she is the very best at what she does, while looking absolutely gorgeous to boot. Often can come off as mean to others, mostly towards half breeds or those she thinks unworthy to run in the same team as her. Most of the times, she talks in rhymes.
Rex Mindo - A massive minotaur with the body of a man and a head of a bull, he is a powerful and fast runner. Captain of the Track team, he is very strict and pushes his team to the fullest. Always wanting to be the best and not lose to the rival school. Despite his usual yelling and drill sergeant attitude, he is pretty nice and always willing to lend a hand.
Hina Rei - Vice President of the Casters Club, Hina is a calm, sweet and generally nice witch. She acts like a big sister to everyone in the club. However, she appears to have an alternate persona where her voice drops, she becomes sly, manipulative, and rude. She is easily recognizable with her over-sized staff.
Loiria - A Kelpie and all around sweetheart on the swim team, Loiria's goal seems to be to make as many friends as she possibly can, no matter what. Sometimes coming off as a bit too friendly, there are rumors circling that she has a thing for mermaids. The only person she seems to actively dislike is Miriel.
Miriel - One of the top swimmers on the team, Miriel is a mermaid, and has earned the nickname "Bitch-Fish" from the other members, though they would not say this to her face. Seeming to lack any form of friends or companions, Miriel treats almost everyone abrasively and rudely, rarely learning names and instead relying on derogatory nicknames that focus on various features of the individual (IE, Lizard for scaled beings, Minnow for aquatic, etc etc) She is second only to the captain of the team.
Abitha - A Neried and Vice Captain of the Swim Team, she has a no nonsense attitude. While polite and friendly, her focus and passion is clearly swimming. She is also one of the few members who tolerates Miriel's antics, mostly because she knows how good the Mermaid is. She is quick, however, to stop arguments between any of the members, stepping in and immediately making them focus back on practice.
Chandra Suchwani - The earthy and spiritual president of the Music Club. She is a high naga, having two sets of arms and a pair of graceful, curving horns spiraling off the uppermost corners of her forehead. Her scales are sand-stone like, with soft yellows, oranges and browns blending up into her caramel skin. Her hair is very dark auburn falling to her waist in thin dreads and her eyes are a serpentine amber. She plays various forms of finger-struck drums, using up to five at once- one for each hand and one for her tail.
Nestor - A Siren who hates humans of all kinds, Nestor is a highly skilled guitar player with a sharp tongue to match. While he's mostly a coward and avoids physical confrontation, he has no problem egging someone on enough that they attack him, using it to get the assaulter in trouble with school officials by playing the victim.
Ashira Dokina - A female forest elf who stands 5'0 with long light blonde hair and violet eyes. Often wearing her martial arts uniform with a black belt. Captain of the Martial Arts Club, she is very calm and collected hardly showing much of her emotions. Yet she always seems warm and peaceful, showing no anger or hate.
Amy and Lee Shaborn - An Ettin, unique in that the left head is Amy *and female* while the right head is Lee *and male*. The pair is the Academy's MC and often does the announcing at any event in the Academy. Amy is bubbly and energetic, often being a little too loud at all times, whereas Lee is serious and quiet. The two often bicker, frequently while in front of a microphone.
Kaspian - The charismatic, handsome, and confident Captain of the Jormungand Jousting Team. Kaspian comes off as always calm, always cool, and sickeningly skilled at most things. However, his arrogance and insulting demeanor betray a power hungry side. While he never cheats and rarely starts physical confrontations, he has no problem resorting to mind games to ruin another's confidence. His hair is jet black and spiked back, and his body is overtly muscular and fit. He often wears tight fitting button up shirts to show off his body, something he's very proud of. Losing any kind of challenge leaves him flustered. A rather well known tale around school is that he broke Simon's ribcage during a jousting circuit during the last Waking Festival.
Lurt - A huge Fire Jotun often seen tagging around Kaspian, Lurt is dimwitted and hard hitting. Often seen as a lackey, Lurt's only redeeming quality is his strength, which makes him a ringer for the Jormungand Wrestling team. Standing 12 feet tall with fiery orange shoulder length hair, Lurt rarely wears anything other than his tiger skin tunic, which barely conceals his body and smells heavily of grime and sweat.
Misha - A mystery to most, Misha rarely speaks. A tiger centaur *in that her lower half is that of a bengal tiger* Misha is the new team mate of the Jormungand Jousters. Often she simply stares and analyzes, like a predator on the prowl. She seems unusually interested in Simon as a potential opponent in the circuit. She has dark tanned skin, vibrant yellow eyes, and bright orange hair with black streaks running through it.
If you have an NPC you would like added to the list, PM me the name, and a short description. I will also add any important NPCs we create during the RP to this list to help keep track *teachers, rivals, etc* NPCs are fair game for anyone to take control of and use as needed to advance your own character around. However, STICK TO THE PERSONALITY *which is left vague to give you a lot of leeway* meaning don't have Dina suddenly drooling and acting girly towards you, or Gray acting mean and harsh.

- Academy -
A huge school catered for almost every species imaginable, it is one of the largest and prestigious academies around, boasting colossal size, various botanical gardens, and one of the most diverse extra-curricular programs around. It's situated right on the northern edge of the city, near the coast.
- Botanical Gardens -
Gargantuan greenhouses and gardens that are tended by the students and faculty at Ouroboros, the flowers and plants grown here are incredibly diverse, coming from all different worlds and realms. In the absolute center of the gardens stands the Dream Tree, a massive tree with amethyst leaves and bark that shimmers varying hues of metallic blue and pink. The common rumor around the school is if you sleep under the Dream Tree, you'll have good luck with whatever dreams you are pursuing. There is also a reinforced glasshouse, full of carnivorous and often dangerous plants, some of which are highly intelligent. For the most part, only dryads are able to enter without being attacked.
- Common Grounds -
A huge open field with a few trees here and there for shade, the Commons is often used for school festivals, rallies, and various other functions that require such large open spaces.
- Arcane Building -
A large, reinforced stone building in which all magical oriented classes, including study and practicing of, are hosted. For some reason the halls smell of burning dirt at all times. You get used to it.
- Shops -
A squat low building that holds many a sort of mini-mall of sorts. The store carries various toiletries and clothing, alongside several amenities for the students who either don't have time or unable to enter Limbo City to purchase from the shops.
- Dorms -
Eight large dorm buildings, each six floors in height, house the student body of Ouroboros. Each gender has 4 dorms, each labeled with an M for male or F for female respectively. A is for first floor rooms, B is second, so on and so forth. Larger creatures are given spacious rooms to accommodate their bulk, and it's not uncommon for the large beings to be paired up with smaller ones within rooms. Each building has one staff member who lives within the buildings and acts as a form of steward.
- Stadium -
A massive Colosseum in which almost all sports are conducted, the exception being aquatic sports, which are housed in a separate building right next to the Stadium. Complete with Aerosport Rings (Large hoops on incredibly tall poles for races and stunts), a jousting ring, a track run that goes around the perimeter, and enough seating for the entire student body to attend, the Stadium is where the school hosts assemblies and sports functions. The center area is covered in grass for the other sports such as soccer, baseball, and football, though there are often arguments about who gets first choice between the teams and clubs.
- Jormungand Academy -
The rival school of Ouroboros, it also caters to a diverse selection of races. It is constantly seen as always in the shadow of Ouroboros, despite being a sister school and having almost duplicate statistics and facilities. It is situated on the southern edge of the city, at the base of a mountain.
