This RP is set in a universe that, for most of its existence, has been nearly identical to ours. It is set in the city of Austin, Texas, though we may move locations later depending on story events. We will begin just a few hours before a massive and mysterious event that will forever change the Earth. To most people, this event will be little more than a bright flash of light with few real effects beyond causing some traffic accidents. However, for a very small number of individuals, it will grant them abilities that could only be described as supernatural. The abilities this event grants varies from individual to individual, based on their psyche and desired, though to the outside observer, the event would appear to behave without rhyme or reason. Immediately after the event, those who are open with their abilities will be almost immediately captured by various governments both for study, and to keep these supernatural effects silent, as they want to prevent mass panic. Using the media to cover up the existence of these people, they will manage to keep the general population unaware of the event’s supernatural effects. They will then continue to fervently hunt down anyone with these powers, all while being careful to keep it quiet.
You may choose any type of (non-overpowered) ability, as long as it is not utterly ridiculous. Acceptable abilities could still potentially be rather powerful, but for the first part of the story, the real conflict will be with figuring out how to use the abilities and how to remain hidden from the larger powers that would hunt them. I would ask that your character(s) not have perfect control over their abilities in the very beginning. The spirit of the story (in the beginning) is to show how our characters deal with the dramatic impact these abilities would have on every aspect of their lives, and the danger they would bring. To that end, it would be more effective if your character has friends, family, or so on that could be used against them, or would be otherwise affected by this change. It is not required that you make a character like this, just recommended. You may also wish to introduce a weakness into the abilities your character was granted, especially if they are on the higher end of the scale in terms of power.
Abilities: (Give a description of the advantages of your abilities, as well as any disadvantages)
Skills: (List any other skills your character has not related to their powers):
Rules: Pretty standard RP rules. No being OP, disrespectful to others, etc... Have fun, and make sure to give any suggestions for how to make it better.
Name: Samantha Wolfe
Height: 5’ 5”
Advantages- The event transformed Sam into a werewolf. She gains much improved strength, speed, and heightened senses. She is immune to disease and can heal injuries drastically faster and more thoroughly than a normal person, to the point that only very high caliber bullets to the right places or other types of very severe injuries could kill her. In her human form, she retains some of her additional strength, speed, and senses, but nowhere near as much as in her werewolf form.
Disadvantages- Sam has a deadly weakness to silver. It stunts her natural healing and produces a burning sensation on contact. She also has a high potential for losing control. If sufficiently provoked, she could easily slip into an unwanted transformation or lose control of her actions to her basic instincts. A full moon will also force her to transform and increases her likelihood of losing control, though it does not necessarily force her instincts to take over.
Skills: One notable thing about Sam is her high IQ, as she has sailed through school with near-perfect scores all of her life, with little effort. Aside from academics, she has taken interest in computers and programming, and has a good deal of technical knowledge.
Appearance: Sam is a Caucasian female below whose appearance could best be described as average. She has medium length black hair and green eyes. (After becoming a werewolf, she gains significant muscle mass in her human form)
Background: Sam was born in Georgia, only moving to Austin when she was 15 after her father gained a job opportunity there. For the most part, her life has been hardly exceptional. Her parents both work, earning enough money to put the family firmly in the middle class. She has two siblings, an older sister and a younger brother. Her brother has a tendency to annoy her, but otherwise she gets along well with her family. Her life is fairly mundane, but Sam is content with it. She is not very social and has only a few friends in school, especially since she has only lived in the state for two years. She is currently a senior in high school who plans to go straight into college to pursue a career in technology.
Name: Jack Roman
Height: 5' 11"
Abilities: "Bioelectric Binary Communication" (I.e. "speaking" with electronic devices) Using the excess electric output naturally released by all human beings (The Aura) almost like a giant universal remote. Able to turns lights on/off, make streetlights green, have cellphones call or do other things (smartphones) etc.
Weakness- This ability is directly linked to his mental state of mind. If he is tired or overworked, it may not function. Getting suprised or scared, panicked, excited may cause "accidental" communication. This is also possible when in a dream state since after effects of a nightmare often resulted in blown lightbulbs, fried microwaves, and sometimes the occasional blackout of a city block. Consistent use and more complex devices (exe computers, smartphones, cars) require more concentration and result in more ability needed.
Skills: Jack was a huge gamer in highschool and only got more into gaming in college. His hand eye cordination, quick reflexes and quick thinking are what helps him make up for his lack of strength. He won't be winning any foot races either, but he is okay at sneaking around if needed. Whatever he learned, he learned from the various games he's played most of his life.
Name: Richard Green
Abilities: Shape shifting
Advantages- He is able to change the shape of his right arm (to begin with I'm hoping to work on his ability as we go) to mimic something blade or a hardened shield. His ability makes his body very agile meaning he can move quite quickly and preform acrobatic movements.
Disadvantages- He dose not always control what he shifts into and it takes a lot of mental power to stop from shifting so he is often weaker staying in his normal form.
Skills: (List any other skills your character has not related to their powers): Free running, Some hand to hand and fairly intelligent.
Background: Growing up he had a lot of social issues as well as identity issues this made it hard for him to interact with others. His mother died of an over dose when he was young and his farther, Who was also an addict, Abandoned him at the age of 13. floating in and out of care he never real found his place in the world. He raised himself for the most part moving out of care at 16 and doing what he needed to survive alone. The past few years have been quite good to him and he has been able to hold down a job and an apartment but he still doesn't quite know who he is and his purpose in life.
Name: Jace Taylor
Abilities:Mind sculpting: Anything that he can imagine, he can bring into the world.
Pros: He can bring anything that he can think of into the world.
Cons: They aren't physical, and can only go as far as three meters away from him. Making it real takes a lot of concentration and general knowledge of what he tries to make.
Skills: Strategic, creative, and artistic.
Appearance: Jace is a skinny guy with short brown hair and brown eyes. He has a large purple splotch of a birthmark that goes from his temple to his chin.
Background: Jace was an angry kid when he was in school. The kids used to tease him about his birth mark, and he got into fights with those kids as a result. When a kid got hurt badly in a fight, a teacher decided to give Jace something that he could direct his anger at: art. Jace soon stopped getting angry at the kids and became friends with them instead. After He graduated, he moved out on his own to become an artist.
Name: Dante Mavick
Height: 5' 11''
Appearance: Dante has medium length messy brown hair that comes down a little less then half way over his forehead, half over his ear and a only a little longer in the back. He has a fit build for he prefers to stay as active as he can going for daily jogs in the morning. Also practicing his free running regularly, this has left him with a toned body shape. Before the event Dante had dark blue eyes but after as a side affect he has dark red eyes with flecks of gold scattered around the iris of his eye.
Dragon form appearance:
Its essentially that picture but its just not that buff and much more dragon like, When in this form Dante stands at 6'8''. IE: the head has a snout or other wise just a much more dragon like head, he has scales instead of what ever you would call that. The hand has five fingers that have sharp nails making them effective claws but also still effective hands. And as was stated just not as...meaty I guess.
Abilities: Dante was a normal human being before the flash, but afterwards he was introduced to a new form atop his human form, his dragon form. In his dragon form he stands at around 6'8'', he has hard red scales that register small caliber rounds ineffective, they can resist a few rounds from most standard issue rifles but too much and they will pierce his scales. Also while in this form he has increased strength, he can fly and control over flames, he is able to conjure flames at will, while also able to manipulate fires. While in his human form he maintains this abilities with fire and his bodies natural temperature has been increased along with his tolerance to heat, this is even more so in his other form. Dante also enjoys a boosted immune system making him immune to many diseases.
Draw backs: This form introduced a want to control everyone, a want to conquer and dominate every living thing, a want to wreak havoc and a thirst for blood. He is constantly trying to keep in control of himself and this new form. His dragon form is very hard to conceal and his magic is uncontrollable, if he does not control his emotions his magic will begin to conjure and even worse he could take on his other form and lose control. Also his other form has changed the natural coloration of his eyes to a red with flecks of gold which he also has trouble hiding.
Skills: Dante is a skilled fighter due to the past and present fights he has gotten into, the majority were not started by him. He has taken up free running as a hobby finding much enjoyment in it, from this he has become rather agile. Dante is also a good shot from going to the shooting range with his father. Dante is also resourceful, he found that he had a knack for jury rigging things going with the saying, "Doesn't matter how I got it to work all that matters is I got it to work.".
Background: Dante was born into an average middle class family. His father and mother were average american citizens, he grew up in Lakeside, Montana where his father worked for a small investment firm. Dante's younger brother Jason, was born when Dante was 4, his brother easily got on Dante's nerves nearly all the time he was annoyed with his brother. As the years passed when Dante was 14 his fathers business had elected to move to greener pastures in Austin, Texas. Dante's father and mother decided to, rather then work to find a new job in Lakeside to move with the Firm to Austin, much to the displeasure of the teenage Dante but to the delight of his younger brother. When the family arrived in Austin they moved into a small suburban home and life went on. Dante found some difficulty making friends feeling out of place in this new school and town. Within a few years he began to grow used to the new town and school.
When Dante was 13 and the economy began to crash his father firm was hit hard. Struggling to stay afloat. The next year was a hard one his mother began to work full time, leaving Dante and his younger brother home alone the majority of the time. Up until this point he and his brother did not get along. But at this point Dante was forced to mature, he finally began to get along with his brother and as they both got older Dante took his younger brother under his wing. When Dante finished his 8th grade year his fathers firm finally went under. Their family hit a rough few months, as their dad searched for a job and his family only stayed a float by the money their mother made. In this time Dante's parents got into heated arguments that would keep Dante and his little brother up till nearly dawn. Finally after several months of the reoccurring themes Dante's father enlisted for the military. Within a few months he was gone and the families economic issues had mostly been settled. When Dante was old enough he got himself a job and began to save as much money as he possibly so he could go to college. Dante had his group of close friend and they were who he hung out with the majority of the time, but his younger brother on the other hand had a much harder time. Dante's brother was trouble maker not just with teachers but other students, he had created a habit for getting into fights and angering other kids and when he would get into a fight Dante would always be there to help. With his older brother protecting him Dante's brother grew cocky and arrogant. Along with his college fund that his parent had saved up and still were saving for him and the money he was making his future in college was going to be easy sailing. But all that changed when a man in uniform arrived at their door.
The man was a good friend that was serving with Dante's father and he brought the news that their father had been killed in the line of duty. This devastated the family, from that point on it was choppy waters for the family. As Dante's mother began working a full time and a part time job which caused her to have no time for her kids, this did not bother the nearly adult Dante but for his younger brother it was much more difficult. Dante's mother never touched Dante's college fund but she could no longer continue to save money for him all of her money went to keeping the family afloat, but with the money he was saving up and the money his parents had saved up his tuition, books and a fraction of his housing would be payed for, the rest was up to him. As the years passed Dante finally graduated at the age of 18, he was not a straight A or an AP student but he had a passion for history, writing and science even if his grades did not always reflect it. His mother was so proud of him but his brother was angry he did not want to see him go and be left alone. They got into a bad fight the night before Dante left and they never made up for it. As Dante left for his college his brother went down hill, he started getting involved with the wrong kids and when Dante was a sophomore in college and Jason a Sophomore in high school Dante was working hard in school and work to make enough money and to get good grades, Jason on the other hand was flunking classes trying different drugs and just being a over all bad kid, not having any one there to watch him he just did as he pleased. Now Dante is a junior in college and other then fights he has gotten in to here and there he is a over all good kid, but his brother in the exact opposite.
Name: Brianna Foster
Height: 1.42m / ~5'6"
Brianna has the ability to, when she so desires, create a sort of field around her body that can cover her completely a few centimetres from her skin to cover her clothing. This field absorbs incoming EM radiation and re-emits it exactly in the continuing direction of the waves. In other words, she is able to turn invisible. However, when she moves around, there is a slight refraction of light that can reveal a discernible outline of her if someone looked carefully enough. Also, the field does not hide radiation that emanates from her body in the first place, so she still turns up on thermal cameras and the like, and if she held something like a torch or a glow stick within the field, the light would still be visible to others. In order for Brianna to see, the field rifts around her eyes, but the resulting black dots floating in the air where her pupils are, when observed from Brianna's front, are about as easy to spot as the outline that appears when she moves.
In addition, Brianna can grip onto any surface with her exposed skin and hold her weight on those surfaces for an extended period of time. This includes, but is not limited to, walls and ceilings of any texture and material, so long as they are solid enough to hold her weight. Brianna can also form a solid grip on movable objects via skin contact.
These abilities can be toggled by Brianna voluntarily.
Bri has always had a creative mind, which manifests in photography and film, as well as drawing. She often exercises short film-making as a hobby -nothing too artsy, mostly comedic stuff with the occasional bout of special effects-. This means that she not only has an eye for aesthetics, but she knows how to operate a camera closer to a professional level than most people her age, as well as use film-making and animation programs on a computer with a degree of skill.
Bri also has a problem solving mind. Her lateral thinking skills means that she can see resourceful solutions to some problems where they may not be obvious to others.
Brianna is a slim, tall, athletically built Caucasian without the Hollywood curves of her older sister and mother, but with the self-esteem to not be fussed. She wears her straightened, armpit length blond hair back in a ponytail with strands escaping down the each side of her head behind her ears. Her dark green eyes don't get much attention due to the squint she often has, but the rest of her face isn't unattractive, save for a couple of well-placed blemishes on her cheeks that get mostly hidden with makeup anyway.
Bri's casualwear is mostly to please herself more than standing out in the latest fashion. Dark jeans, converses and a white blouse are commonplace, sometimes she substitutes them with other outfits as the event requires.
Brianna was born and raised in Austin. Aside from the occasional holiday, she and her family of parents, a younger and older sister had never lived elsewhere in her lifetime. You could say that her family life was fairly functional; her father was a board member to a large corporation, and her mother was a stay-at-home wife for a while, but started to run a small tea shop downtown once Brianna's younger sister turned 14 and they could all be trusted alone. The tea shop was more of a flight of fantasy from a more nanu-nanu corner of Brianna's mother's mind, but thankfully running a business caused Brianna's mother to become a little more down to earth, even if it made meagre profits. Needless to say, they were well-to-do, but Brianna's father was a workaholic who wasn't a fan of indulgence, so Brianna and her siblings had to save up for whatever they wanted on an average chore allowance like any other kids. Brianna's sisters (aged 15 and 20 at present) were of course devil-spawn in her eyes, but then again it wasn't so much of a surprising thought coming from a middle child.
Growing up in Austin was a bit rocky in elementary school for Brianna. She wasn't the most popular of children and had trouble making friends. By the time she reached secondary school, however, she had developed a lot socially, and was able to pick up a few friends without the impressions she had made in elementary school. One of these friends, later down the track, was Samantha Wolfe. Both being problem solving individuals, they helped each other out in the same grade with their work and they came to be solid friends.
Throughout high school, Brianna has always exhibited a preference to take things a lot less seriously than they should be taken. If Brianna ever had to take a subject in school that she did not enjoy, she would always either fail, or scrape by with a low grade. As the subject became more specialised later on in school, Brianna has started to excel. Currently, Bri is achieving better than adequate grades, and occasionally making short films as a hobby. Her older sister has moved out of house to go to college on the west coast and her younger sister is finally moving on from being a Belieber. Though Bri is struggling to form a mature relationship with her mother as age is making necessary, life is fairly steady.
Name: James Hunt
Height: 6' 4"
Abilities: None, normal human.
Skills: Quite adept in computer sciences, particularly software.
Appearance: Red headed, thin, always wearing some sort of hoodie and carrying around a backpack.
Background: Trouble with bullying at school because of his intellect and his strong respect for the female gender. He spends most of his time outside of school in nearby secluded parts of the Westwood area.
Name: Cathrine Anders
Abilities: Ability to summon any living thing except full fledged humans. It could be anything from a dog to a burning humanoid figure. The main problem with this is that due to Catherine being a sociopath all of her summoned things have a extreme emotion attached to it. ( Basiclly she could summon a bunch of snakes that were totally content with just kinda slithering around to attacking anything alive. Or alternatviely A humanoid formation of rocks that only wants to hit things or hug children). She can do this an unlimited number of times without her nightmares increasing. So if she does it once she will keep doing it.
Disadvantage: Whenever she does it for the next week she has horrifying nightmares. So much so to the point that she will go a week without sleeping regardless of the physical repercussions. It also gives her a incredable high of adrenaline whenever she does it. She is very conflicted with her ability in not always knowing what to do with it.
Skills: The ability to not feel empathy. Is a excellent shot with a rifle or handgun. Can recite you your rites and is generally good legal council.
Appearance: ( get rid of the forehead wrinkles and there you go.)
Background: Lost her mother when she was 6 do to her brain not getting enough oxygen to her brain. It took Catherine three days to remember her fathers phone number, who was away on business at the time. Her father then sold his company in order to be home for his daughter. They comfortably rode out on the money and her father taught her many things ranging from firearms training to law and even science. Did well in school although no honor roll student. She recently graduated and moved to Austin, Texas so she could attend university. She and her father talk frequently and he lives in Dallas.
Name: Mark Blackstone
Abilities: Mark can alter his molecular density at will, both increasing and decreasing it. Once fully developed, his power will allow him to phase through solid objects, and on the other end of the scale, make himself dense enough that he is practically immovable. Even before he gets to that point, making one of his limbs or his torso less dense can still be enough to soften the impact of a blow, and increasing the density of his fist would make his punch hurt a lot more than normal. Decreased density allows him to jump higher and farther, while increased density causes him to fall faster, which could be combined in all sorts of interesting ways, since it also makes him more resilient to the impact.
However, electricity negates the effect, causing his molecules to realign and revert to their normal density, which can be problematic if he, say, sticks his hand into a computer. If he were to fall out of phase before fully passing through an object or person, his molecules would fuse with that object and he'd be stuck.
Skills: Mark is an excellent writer, and has written several front page pieces for the school newspaper, and a skilled diver and swimmer. He is a red belt in Aikido, a martial art focusing on redirecting an attacker's force with throws and joint locks without injuring the attacker. Mark also has some medical knowledge and is CPR and first aid certified, at his father's insistence.
Background: Mark comes from a well-off family, but that doesn't mean his life's been easy. His father, a trauma surgeon, is rarely home, and when he is, he's distant and stern. His brother enrolled in the Army ROTC, and was deployed to Iraq, where he turned up MIA about three months before his first tour was due to end. His mother... Didn't handle this well. Depression set in, and she began to waste away, eventually becoming suicidal. Since Mark's father was working, Mark had to make the 911 call the day he came home to find his mother unconscious on the floor in the kitchen with an empty bottle of painkillers next to her. Miraculously, the hospital saved her life, but she wasn't the same. They placed her under observation in the psychiatric ward, and Mark hasn't been to visit her very often in the two years since the suicide attempt, because she has broken with reality so completely that she hallucinates that Mark's brother is still alive and visits her frequently and Mark finds himself unable to confront this or maintain his composure around her. However, he is able to confide in his sister, Eve, who he sees as the only person he can trust. He has a few friends, mostly acquaintances from the newspaper or dive team, but he keeps most of them at arm's length, not wanting to allow them to see exactly how screwed up his life is.
