Test Facility 221, Themisto. Jovian Federation.
Test Facility 221 was at one point a long range communication facility. After being decommissioned, the Jovian military picked it up as an outpost to be later re-purposed into its main prototype frame facility. The structure still operates the communications array as a listening post now, gathering information from all over nearby space. On the other side of the mountains is a underground dock for a single ship. Primarily housing communications craft, it is now home to the Callisto prototype carrier, the JFS Garuda
. This is where we begin our story.
Captain Thomas Chou stood within the observation tower, watching the handful of frames make their way to the firing line. Today the fire support models were conducting ranged drills, in order to determine their stability upon firing and a number of other small factors. The Goliath and Gilgamesh 96X stood side-by-side, with the Ravana A3 as a third platform to compare their performance to. The rest of the squadron was either watching the examination on the ground or tending to other matters inside the facility.
At the other end of the firing range, off in the distance, were sets of targets, silhouetted as a mixture of frames and armored vehicles. The pilots would fire once per round, and the data would be collected in the central computer at Chou's hands. Alterations were to be made as necessary before the evaluation was concluded. Truth be told, it wasn't the most exciting thing you could do in the military, but it sure beat sitting in the cockpit all day on garrison duty.
Captain Chou was flanked by Lt. Valentine, who held a communicator to his mouth, directing the ordeal. Chou was just overseeing the examination, as usual. Being the Captain saved you from a lot of mediocre duties, but it meant lots of paperwork instead. Chou could deal with that.
"Begin the examination, Lieutenant," he told Valentine, holding up a set of binoculars to his eyes. "Let's get this over with."
