Latinium, a land of endless wonders and awe. A land of diverse landscapes, cultures and people. A land once controlled by the mighty Marian Empire, which
now lies in ruins. A land of bloodshed in the name of everything from religion to petty strife. The history of Latinium is filled with both the glories of civilizations and the bloodiest of conflicts. It has seen the prosperous rise of
some and the brutal demise of others.
There was a time when almost all of the land, from the distant coast of the west to the timid deserts of the west was under one rule. Latinium was once under the
control of the Marian Empire, with its seat of power in the city of Marianium.
In the days of old, Marianium, back then still known as the city-state of Marr, ousted their tyrant kings and drove them off away from their city. Wealthy land
owners quickly took control of Marr, setting up a senate and claimed that they worked for the people of Marr. Some say they were every bit as cruel as the kings of old they replaced, others said they led Marr to glory by ensuing peace and destroying any threats. None-the-less, they ruled over Marr and her expanding territories for 500 years. All this ended when a young senator, sent to the north to squash ravenous barbarians, abandoned his duties and took him armies with him to Marr. That young senator, Prios Marcellus Maximus, took power from the senate and cemented himself as sole ruler of Marr and her people. Thus
from that day on, the Marian empire was born and Maximus become the first emperor. His rule would not be long however as members the senate, which now
serves as a puppet to his regime, took his life in the hope of regaining power for themselves. A civil war ensued, splitting the empire in half. He's adopted son however, Antony Gaius Maximus, destroyed the supporters of the senate. From
then on, the empire grew and grew, until it had conquered almost of the land. Those kingdoms under the empire enjoyed prosperity and peace. If trouble did arise however, the empire would send its fearsome legions to quell any disputes. The empire governed the lands for 7,000 years until it faced a crisis it could not solve.
Rebellious tribes, stubborn nobles, savage barbarians, vicious warlords and fanatical heretics gnawed on the edges of the empire. The coffers ran running
empty fast as the empire found itself more and more in debt with it's military. And the feared legions struggled to defend the empire as more and more of its lands where lost. It found itself losing more and more allies as each day
passed. It only took 50 years for the empire to collapse, but not entirely. During the later half of its era, the empire was split in half. It was still one empire even though it was ruled by two emperors. One controlled the east and the
other, the west. When the western empire fell, the Eastern empire tried its best to reconquer most of the land. However, it too was losing more and more lands
and coin. Now it is a shadow of its former glory, desperately trying to hold on to what little it has left. Only time would tell if it could reclaim the empires former glory or join its western counter part in the rubble and ashes of the
past. It was to contend with new forces of the land, warring tribes and fanatics eat away at its lands. This people have already been setting up their own
territories and claiming their own stakes in Latinium. They now begin to build their future nations. Without a central empire to discourage their disputes, war is ripe in Latinium once more. Latinium now faces its darkest hour, its dark
Welcome to Latinium, the medieval rp. Please take note that this is not a fantasy rp. Rather, it mimics the European dark ages, just after the fall of the
Roman empire. It is based on the politics of nations during those time. You will have to conquer the land with diplomacy, religion or military might(Medieval II
reference). You will have to fight others in pursuit of conquest. Now before we begin, here are some simple rules:
Be realistic, again this isn't a fantasy rp so no magical creatures and what not. Also, the technology they use here is still the same as the technology people used in the real world's dark ages. Also, try not to be so overpowered or
as some would call it "God mode". Yes you and the people you create and only mortals and you have limitations. All in all it just comes down to realism. Just try to be as realistic as you can.
Now one could also notice that there are two places of interest on the map. Those are Marianium and Barcellem. Now Marianium, known in the old times as the city of Marr, was once the capital of the Marian empire. It is now the home of the Kristian Katholic church(which I would explain later). The High Father is seated here in the eastern side of the city while the western side lies in
ruins. Barcellem is the center of 5 religions, 2 of those are the primary religions of Latinium(Which I would explain later on too). Barcellem is the spiritual center of Latinium and is craved by many. Now for the religions. Religion is important here in Latinium as it will help you build allies and enemies. Here are the three primary religions of Latinium:
*Kristianity - this religion is based of the teaching of krist from Bellsia. Krist proclaimed himself as the God of the Ambrewish people in the flesh of man. He spread his teaching in the Kaspian deserts during the later half of the
Marian empire's rule over the area. The Ambrewish high priest condemned him as a heretic and the Marian empire hunted him down and nailed him on a cross. His
disciples however spread his teachings throughout the rest of the empire. It became popular thoughout the land and the empire had no choice but to adopt it as the empire's of religion. During the fall of the empire, the emperor of the
Sistrine empire(the remains of the Eastern empire) and High father of the Kristian religion had an arguement and now the religion is split into two sects:
*Orthodox Kristianity - A sect of Kristianity which focuses on the old system of the Kristian church rather than the new system the High father has
implemented. The Sistrine empire still follows this sect of Kristianity and is thus in conflict with the High Father in Marianium.
*Katholic Kristinianity - A sect of Kristianity with a new system
implemented by the High father, much to the disliking of the Sistrine empire. Followers of this sect would have to answer to the High father's orders less they want to be ex-communicated. Any nation that has been ex-communicated by the high father would be considered a heretic state. This nations are then deemed by the High father has a threat to all of Kristiadom and most be destroyed at all cost.
Dellianianism - this religion was started by the prophet Delliania during the collapse of the Marian empire. His teachings are similar to those of the Kristian religion, only that his teachings state that Krist was not a God that
he proclaimed himself to be but a mere prophet. This religion also started in the city of barcellum. The followeres of this faith came into conflict with the Sistrine empire, where they rebelled and captured much of the southern Kaspian deserts.
Paganism - any polytheistic faith can be roughly categorized as paganism. Paganism was allowed to exist under the Marian empire to avoid any conflict, but
now the High father has declared any pagan country a target of attack for any Katholic nations. Many of the tribes in the north and west regions of Latinium still believe in one form of Paganism or another.
Now rp'ers can choose between being a tribe of the north and western territories or one of the three Dellianian sultanates in the Kaspian deserts. The north and western tribes are going to start out with small territories which would expand as the Sistrine empire struggles to keep them in line. The Dellianian sultanates would also try to capure as much of the Kaspian deserts as they could and would
probably try to expand north too. Here's the app for anybody who wants to join:
Name of tribe or sultanate:
Leader of tribe or sultanate:
Primary ethnicity of the tribe or sultanate: (Please note that whoever wants to claim Barcellem as their capital would have a large Ambrewish ethnicity along with the other ethnic groups you might want to add. You could a made up ethnic group or borrow one from the real world; such as the Arabic, Slavic, Germanic and other ethnic groups of the real world. Also note that this rp is based on medieval Europe and the middle east).
Name of their capital city and where you want it to be placed: (For the tribes, the capital city would start out as your only territory until you expand.)
Primary religion of the tribe: (Remember that the sultanates are automatically Dellianian).
History and backstory: (If you need any help with this, I'm more than
happy to help).
Once you place your app, I'll update the map. Hope everybody has fun.
