An elder was addressing his pupils before meditation. He presented them with the following account: "A man asked the Buddha, 'What is the meaning of life?' The Buddha replied, 'This rice weighs thirteen pounds.' Explain the significance of this answer." He then sent his students away to meditate. Many hours later, one of the pupils returned. "Master," he said, "I understand the Buddha's response. Life's quality is not in meaning, but in natural existence." The elder considered his pupil for a moment, then beat him savagely with his cane, and sent him away to meditate more.
....that's the end of the story. I mean it repeats a bit, with some more explanations and some more beatings, but that's pretty much the whole of it. WHAT DOES SPAM THINK?
