Just as the digital alarm clock hit 7:00 am, the blaring sound of the radio echoed through the small 300 square foot living room. With a groan, Roanna extended her long, skinny arm from underneath a small fleece blanket on the couch and ran her fingers over the buttons until the radio song ‘Die Another Day’ turned off. A tired, groggy groan came from underneath the tangled fleece blanket until Roanna threw it off of her, letting it pool to the floor. She sat up slowly, twisting her back in different directions hearing and feeling her back crack and pop a few times. She ran her fingers through her short tangled hair before rubbing her tired eyes, forcing herself to her feet. She took a chance to look at the alarm clock which now read 7:10.
“Too bad time doesn’t go that fast when I’m at work.” She grumbled to herself. It was the first day of school, and she was already running late. She must have slept through the first alarm that was scheduled to go off at 6:30, or maybe she just didn’t set it the night before. She pried herself to stand up off of the couch, picking up the blanket and folded it up, setting it on the back of the couch before going to the bathroom for a quick shower. With a towel wrapped tightly around her, she walked to her mother’s even smaller bedroom and opened up the dresser that the two of them shared and quickly got dressed in a pair of tight blue worn jeans, a white cami and then a long-sleeved V-neck deep purple shirt over the top. She returned back to the bathroom to quickly run some gel through her hair, styling the short brown hair to the side and spiking up the ends of the back of her head.
Now back in the living room (which was also openly attached to the kitchen), she picked up a small cel phone from the coffee table, seeing that the backlight had just recently lit up. She flipped it open and saw that she had a text from her friend Stephanie.
‘I have a surprise. Can you be ready in 10?’
Roanna quickly typed back a ‘sure’ before stuffing the phone into her pocket and took three steps to the fridge, opening it to find it unhealthily empty. She pulled out a bottle of Dr. Pepper, closed the fridge and then gathered up her books and backpack. By the time she was ready to start walking to school, she heard a couple car honks from outside. She opened the door to find her best friend Stephanie pulled alongside the curb in her Olive Green Jeep Wrangler, top down and her blonde curly locks flying freely in the wind.
“Get in stupid! Unless you want to walk?” Stephanie taunted her, honking the horn twice more. Roanna’s tired expression melted into a smile as she ran and jumped into the car, not bothering to open the tiny car door.
“If this means what I think it means, I think you just made my entire year.” Roanna said throwing her backpack into the vehicle’s tiny back seat. Stephanie nodded, revving up the engine and took off leaving the tiny one bedroom apartment far behind.
“I convinced my dad to let me transfer. I’ve known for about a week, but I figured I’d surprise you in style.” Stephanie smirked as the two headed towards the school.
Elias was sitting outside of the school with his Richard Morris. Richard had messy brown hair, green eyes, tanned skin and wore a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and a pair of white tennis shoes.
“I’m telling you Elias, I got ahold of some really good shit, it’ll make you drop,” Richard stated with a bit of a grin. Elias shook his head before he pushed himself off the wall he was leaning against.
“We don’t talk about that here okay? I don’t want someone overhearing it… Texting is cool bro, but you need to learn to shut your mouth,” Elias stated before he pulled out his cell phone.
‘is it covered in crystals?’ He texted to Richard.
Richard checked his own phone before nodding.
Elira walked over to the two followed by Elias’s sister Sarah who was 2 years younger than him. Sarah had black hair, blue eyes and pale skin much like her brother, her hair was short and spikey with long bangs.
“What are you two idiots up to?” Sarah asked as she put her hands on her hips.
“None of your damned business twerp,” Elias stated.
“You know, that offer still stands Le, I can always take you to a nice little dig and show you a good time,” Richard stated with a bit of a smirk.
Elira rolled her eyes.
“In your dreams idiot,” Elira stated before she adjusted her backpack then nudged Sarah.
“Let’s get in before they start getting ideas,” Elira stated before she headed for the doors of the school. Sarah nodded and followed her into the school.
Elias looked at Richard before rubbing his chin.
“We should skip first period. It’s only boring talk about history that we already know from previous years in school,” Elias stated.
“I don’t know… I’m in a lot of trouble with the ‘rents man…”
When you've lived your entire life on a farm, tending to animals and taking care of your produce, you feel incredibly captivated in the city. Xander didn't feel like he belonged here, and it irked him. He would've much rather moved to Kansas, or something like that, but no, his mother, that sweet woman, ordered him to move to New Lilith, because they had the best school for her 'little boy'. It was seven A.M and Xander had been awake since five. He was always up at five, it was the time he'd usually start his chores back home. Of course, these days, his 'chores' included just straight up physical exercise.
His douche of a boss had made him stay at the shop till 11 p.m the night before so Xander didn't get home until twelve a.m which gave him very little sleep for the day. He really needed a more reliable source of income, if he'd want to be able to keep up his 'extracurricular activities'. But his grumbling was cut short by the ringing of the phone in his pocket, making him fall down from the iron-bar he was using to make upside-down situps. Scrambling up to his feet, he managed to answer his old Nokia, it was his mom. " Hey Ma." He said with a smile, as his mom greeted him back " You up and ready for your first day of school?" The woman asked as Xander scoffed. " Yeah. I just need ta get some breakfast and get dressed."
Xander's mother spent the next five minutes talking about how Xander was slow in getting dressed, and the importance of having a healthy breakfast, talking about her grandma's old recipe for scrambled eggs and bacon. Xander answered with 'uhu' 'okay' and 'absolutely', while he was cleaning up his room. "Ma, I need ta go take a showa now. I'll call you after school. Love ya." He said as he hung up as he walked out of the bedroom and to the bathroom.
Xander walked out ten minutes later, a towel around his waist and rubbing another towel over his hair drying the hair properly. He'd get dressed next nice clean jeans, a black T-shirt and his brown boots. Putting just a little bit of hair-gel into his dark-brown hair before washing his hands. grabbing his bag and heading into the kitchen that was just a few feet away from his bedroom. There he'd chug a glass of Orange-Juice, before taking out two canisters of Blue-Berry Yoghurt. He ate the two in a matter of seconds, before he grabbed the newly toasted pieces of bread and headed towards the door, munching on the pieces of bread as he'd grab his brown leather jacket and unlock the door. He lived on the top floor of this apartment building, with a smile he'd walk down the steps, light on his feet he'd move down them, and after three flights of stairs, he'd be down on the street, walking over the garage, he'd get the black 67 Chevy Impala out. It was an old car. His dad had bought it years ago, and Xander had rebuilt it after his father had died.
He drove out onto the street, popping his 'get psyched' mix-tape in. Yes. Xander still used cassettes.
Guns N' Roses ' Welcome To The Jungle' started, music his parents never really approved off. His little brother rubbed off on him a little too much. As he'd drive out onto the freeway, the mild-mannered country boy couldn't help but headbang ever so slightly to the beat of the old rock song.
About ten minutes later he arrived at the school, parked his car, grabbed his bag and headed towards class. Well, that is, if he could find his class, he had no idea where his classroom was, and he only had ten or so minutes to find out. The tall Texan looked confused at his schedule, and then at the map of the campus, having no idea where he was supposed to go.

Roanna and Stephanie quickly made their way inside the school, the two of them practically glued to the hip until they reached the alphabetical lines that had been formed by the other students to receive their schedules. The two said their quick, temporary goodbye’s as they split into separate lines. Roanna finished up the last of her Dr. Pepper, hoping that it would be enough caffeine to get her through the day. She waited in line for what felt like hours, looking over the crowded forum of students also eagerly awaiting their schedules, wondering if she could spot a familiar face or two. Some she recognized, most had hit puberty the right way, others looked exactly the same. Finally, it was Roanna’s turn and she received her schedule. She squeezed herself through the crowd to the open courtyard in the middle of the school and sat down on a bench to open up her schedule, the bouncy blonde soon joining her not too many moments later.
“First Speech 111, second Pre Cal, third Psychology, fourth P.E, lunch, fifth Chemistry, sixth Justice and seventh is open.” Roanna read out loud to herself and the two friends compared their schedules to find that the only class she and Stephanie had together was Justice class, and well…lunch. The most exciting thing about Roanna’s schedule was her free period at the end of the day, now she could leave school early and get in some more working hours at the Physical Fitness Center just a couple blocks away where she had been employed since the beginning of the summer.
“Well, it could be worse.” Stephanie said with a shrug, folding up her schedule and stuffed it into her purse. Roanna didn’t care how many classes the two of them had together, she was just glad to be able to even be going to the same school again.
“I think it just got worse…” Roanna said looking over her friends shoulder to see a large-framed man squeezing himself through the open doors into the courtyard headed directly in their direction, a smaller mini-me version of him following close behind.
“Ro! Lookin good babe!” Jakob said walking up to her with a wide, cheeky smile as if the two of them had been best friends for years. Jakob was a senior and on the school’s football team as a defensive lineman; not to mention one of the best. He was built like a powerhouse, at least from what Roanna remembered from last year, but the summer changed his physique even more drastically, the thought coming across her mind that he must have spent the entire summer in juvie working out…which wouldn’t have surprised her if that were indeed the truth.
“Looks like you put on some weight over the summer Jake. Might I suggest that you lose ten pounds of fat and go cut off your head?” Roanna said, narrowing her eyes at him. She stood up from the bench, ready to leave not wanting to have anything to do with him. No matter how hard she tried to forget, she still remembered the bruises he had left on her neck when she flat-out refused to go to Prom with him the year before.
Jakob’s jaw tightened, not taking well to the insult. He reached for her arm, grabbing it forcefully and then shoved her up against the brick wall against her back. He placed himself a couple of feet in front of her and rested his hand above her shoulder on the wall. Roanna turned her head to the side, not because she was afraid to look at him, but the smell of cigarette smoke from his breath was about to make her lose her breakfast…er, soda.
“That ain’t nice Ro. You’re going to learn how to respect me as your man.” He hissed, his eyes dancing around her body, no doubt taking notice that certain parts of her had definitely filled out during the summer, despite her scrawny frame.
“Fuck off meat-head. She’s not interested.” Stephanie said coming to her friend’s defense, now standing and walking towards Roanna and the man twice her size. She may have been new to the school, but she knew all about Jakob Volpe on account that she and Roanna hardly kept anything from one another…ever. Apparently, women that were trying to act tough was downright hilarious as Jakob turned to look at the blonde and busted out laughing and then waved his hand towards his mini-me to take care of the little ‘pest.’
Elira was in the school now with her friend Sarah as they started for their classes. They were checking out the hot students now.
“How about that guy?” Sarah asked pointing out Xander.
“He’s pretty hot… but he looks like a lost puppy dog,” Elira stated.
“I dare you to go up to him and talk to him,” Sarah said with a bit of a grin. Elira grinned slightly.
“You’re on,” She stated before she made her way up to Xander. She looked him over and felt her stomach do a few turns.
“Hey, name’s Elira, you can call me Le. You look thoroughly lost… Do you need any help?”
Elias watched as his sister and her friend walked into the school before he pushed himself off the wall he was leaning against. He looked at Richard and nodded to him.
“See you in class man,” Elias stated before he started making his way to his first class. Of course he wasn’t going to skip, not without his buddy Richard. He shoved his hands in his pocket before spotting a commotion in the school’s courtyard. He hid for a moment as he watched what happened. He knew an asshole when he saw one and Jakob was an asshole.
Richard had ran up to Elias before peering over his shoulder.
“I thought I said I’d see you in class,” Elias whispered.
“We share the same first period man,” Richard stated before frowning. This didn’t look like it was going in a good direction.
“We should help them man,” Richard said. Richard knew about Elias’s power, he had witnessed it a few times in the past and every time it was a shocker to see the plants move to Elias’s will.
Elias stepped out of the shadows and made his way over to Jakob as he popped his knuckles.
“Hey Jakob, why don’t you leave her alone?” Elias asked.
Richard followed Elias closely.
Xander looked up from his schedule at hearing someone approaching him and then his eyes landed on the younger blonde girl.
"Oh, hey." He said reaching his arm around him to scratch the back of his neck awkwardly. 'Well, at least people here are nice...' Xander thought to himself.
"Um, I'm Xander and...I have no idea where I'm supposed to go..." He admitted sheepishly, a tiny pink blush crossing his tanned cheeks. "I just moved here and well, kind of missed orientation. But I guess that is for the freshman only anyway." He chuckled nervously.
"Heh, can you imagine if I showed up?" 'God Xander just shut your mouth!' He hissed at himself in his mind. That was one of his biggest problems, he tended to ramble when he was nervous about things.

The interference of the tall, dark-haired boy quickly caught Jakob’s attention, slowly turning his large frame to look at him with a glare in his eye by which his back was now to Roanna.
“You think this is your business?” Jakob scoffed, folding his arms across his chest.
“Fuck off before I break your neck pretty boy, my lady and I have some unsettled business.” His thick upper lip turned upwards in a half smile exposing his yellow, smoke-stained, crooked teeth.
“For the last time, I’m NOT your lady!” Roanna said pulling herself off the wall to stand by Stephanie’s side. Her brown eyes glanced over at the dark-haired boy for a split second, her own lips flickering up into a soft smile, grateful for the distraction he had caused, but also worried that this might escalate into something bad…quickly.
“You shut up!” Jakob said turning his body towards her, obviously the ability to carry on two conversations at once was almost impossible for him. His arm had been pulled back and with his turn he struck Roanna hard across her face with the back of his hand, forcing Roanna to take a couple steps backward and put her hand to her face. It was hot and turning red fast, but she let out no sound of pain or surprise. She tightened up her fists, feeling her temper growing hot, seriously considering to unleash her abilities on the jock. THAT would certainly keep him away from her, but that would also mean lots of attention from unwanted people as well.
Elira chuckled at his rambling thinking it was awfully cute.
“Here, let me see your schedule, there’s some time before classes and I can probably show you where all of your classes are before class starts,” Elira offered as she held out a hand to take his schedule. She thought he was handsome, and maybe she could get him to ask her out on a date.
“And I’m sure the school would’ve understood if you showed up to the freshmen orientation so you could figure out where to go.”
Elias’s own temper was flaring now. He looked at his friend Richard and nodded. Richard readied himself. Elias’s friend had taken karate and was a brown belt, only because minor’s couldn’t receive black belt.
Elias knew he could get suspended for punching someone but to abuse a woman was against every moral in his fiber. He walked up to Jakob and swung his fist, hitting the older male square in his jaw. He pulled back and shook his hand, finding that the impact hurt himself.
“You heard what she said, she ain’t your lady,” Elias stated before a slight grin crossed his face. He could really piss the Jock off.
“She’s mine actually,” Elias stated. He didn’t even know the girl but if he could get the jock’s full attention, goat him to get him away from her then he knew he’d’ve accomplished something.
"Um, yeah...sure!" Xander said handing over his crinkled schedule. the schedule alone would have told Elira that he was a senior taking advanced classes; college level even.
Advanced Chemistry, Psychology, Anatomy, Weight Training - lunch - Justice, Writing 121, Physics.
Clearly, his schedule was chalk-full and even his electives were taken up with more serious classes, which really told a lot about his character.
"I know where the gym is, but that's about it." He said with a light chuckle. "If you can just point me in the direction of the chem lab, I think I can figure it out from there." He offered, not wanting her to feel like he was COMPLETELY helpless. That would just be embarrassing.
A vein in Jakob's forehead pulsed, his face becoming red in anger as he rubbed his jaw where Elias had struck him. "Who the fuck do you think you are?" Jakob hissed, wiping blood away from his now cracked lip. The smaller jock that was at Jakob's aid narrowed his eyes at the new boy and cracked his knuckles, going to stand by Jakob getting ready for a fight as well.
Roanna, however, moved to stand in between Thomas and Jakob. There was no way she was going to allow anyone else to get hurt because of her own problems.
“Knock it off!” She said to Jakob, pushing her hands onto his chest to make him take a few steps back away from Thomas, but Jakob didn’t budge. Instead, he cracked his knuckles and twisted his neck around a bit, letting his neck crack and stared Elias down, his bowling balls for hands clenching tightly.
“After school, on my turf. Football field.” He said pointing a fat finger at him and then hacked a loogie at Elias with a sneer. Jakob may have been a meat-head, but he knew that if he got in trouble now, he could kiss his senior year of football goodbye. He turned to look at Roanna, wanting to get the final word in but she had her back to him and was approaching Elias, Stephanie close to her side.
“Thanks, but you really should be more careful.” Roanna said, not trying to come across as sounding ungrateful, but she would never be able to forgive herself if something had happened to him or Stephanie. She could take a hit, in fact she could take a couple, but living with having someone else hurt on her behalf was too much on her conscious.
Elias smirked as Jakob walked off before his attention turned to Roanna. He rubbed the back of his neck nervously before he chuckled softly.
“I just hate jerks treating women like crap… Name’s Elias, what’s yours?” He asked.
He was going to be going to attend that fight after school. He might not know everything but if it got too serious there were plants he could use to his advantage on the field, that and he always carried certain plant seeds on him.
It wasn’t a wonder as to why his friend called him ‘The Gardner’.
“Hey look Xander, I know what it’s like to be lost in this school… and I wouldn’t want you getting lost so let me show you where everyone of your classes are… I mean, this is your last year of school and everything right?” She asked before she started heading for his first class. Sarah could only shake her head before she started off to her first class.
Xander let out a light, friendly laugh. She had a point. "Alright, alright." He said giving in and followed the girl to the Advanced Chemistry room. "Any chance I got lucky and share a few classes with you?" Xander asked as they walked, not really taking into consideration the fact that she was a year younger than him. But then again did that really matter? There were plenty of younger students taking advanced classes. Well...maybe not the senior advanced classes, he was pretty lucky to get into those right away.
"Er...Roanna." Roanna said, not quite used to the fact of people asking for her name. It was insignificant really. "So, you're not going to meet with Jakob after school are you? You look like you could hold your own, but he's got the entire football team on his side. Plus...I wouldn't want to bring someone in the middle of my own problems." She sighed, brushing her short hair out from over her right eye. "He thinks we're dating. He's been that way since eighth grade when I first met him. God he's such a jerk." She said and Stephanie nodded her head up and down in agreement.
