I'm still pretty new to RPing and I've had a few ideas for RPs of my own floating around, so rather than clogging the iCheck forum with three threads I thought I'd just put them all in one thread.
An Initial D-style street racing RP, including play by plays of actual races, character development, etc. Players would make character sheets that included their car, customized as they saw fit (encouraged to use racing games with car customizers or http://www.3dtuning.com/ to post pictures of their cars if modified) and with performance specs outlined. There would be a local hangout where the racers would congregate regularly to set up the night's races, place bets and socialize.
Continuing with the local hangout theme, over on RPGFO they have a persistent IC bar/tavern RP for each genre (Fantasy, Realistic and Sci-Fi) that new members can post in to get their feet wet without having to conform to plots or storylines or character restrictions. Veteran members post in them too, just as a way to have a very relaxed but engaging (as in, Casual-quality posts but no post frequency requirements - this is why I don't mention the Hell's Coffee Lounge RP as it is much more Free-quality than Casual-quality in its posts) RP to come back to. I would be willing to set up as many different themed bar/tavern RPs as everyone wants, since they require almost no moderation. We could have a sci-fi space bar, a modern era Internet cafe, a modern or older (I'm thinking anything from the Swing Era to Victorian) ballroom (more formal and based around one never-ending ball, but same idea. I bring up the ballroom because I already have a specific character in mind for this one), a fantasy inn/tavern, and whatever else anyone thinks up. I'd love to do this one especially because it's so freeform and it's newb-friendly.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about.
For Idea #2, go here: http://roleplayerguild.com/showthrea...Sci-Fi-RP)-OOC
A very complex and immersive Create a Nation RP, set just after the present day in post-WWIII Earth.
Here's an excerpt from a post I made about it on RPGFO (which has so far gotten zero responses):
-----The basic premise is you take Earth and create your nation out of left over countries and provinces of larger countries. The amount of population you have and your tax rate determines your budget per turn (24 hours), and your initial population is determined by which territories on the world map you pick. Then you balance your budget and choose what portions go to military, economy, happiness, research, etc. and that determines what your nation becomes. You get to choose what your country researches and you can make up technologies and military assets and things as long as they are feasible for your country, appropriate for the time period, possible in real life, and most important not Godmods. Then you choose how your country interacts with others. That's the basic gist.
Because of the complicated nature of the game it is pretty much required that there be multiple moderators to govern the game. Moderators determine the outcome of battles that two countries initiate (based on troop numbers but also other things, such as tech strengths/weaknesses and a random factor), make sure everyone stays within the rules of the game and the site, play as NPC countries (if any), and devise Random Events for every game turn. These can be country specific things like "your country experiences a famine and you lose $10 million in productivity" or "the west coast of your country experiences a 6.5 magnitude earthquake and you lose 1/10 of your population" or more general world-related things like "the economy is in a slump this year so prices on everything have risen 25%" or worldwide weather patterns. In my opinion, it's what each player can come up with for their country in terms of technologies and assets they design themselves and the random events dealt by the moderators that can turn the tables very quickly that make this version of CaN fun and long lasting. If there's enough interest I'll explain all of this further and we can even vote on how certain aspects are run. I'm all for changing things to make all players happy (It says Collaborative in the title for a reason).
To keep track of everyone, I'll keep a member roster in the OP of the thread if there ends up being one, as well as a regularly updated world map. This is the first collaborative decision interested RPers can have a say in. I have two Earth maps in mind that I need help deciding on.
We also have a third option, which is to collaboratively (or if one person has a planet idea they're really itching to use) design a new planet to inhabit from scratch. That way we could make up and assign population values for territories instead of having to look them up. So, less work and more creativity when complete, more work in the process.
Also, due to the nature of the persistent world I plan to create with this game, it can easily become like the bar/tavern RPs and be always open for people to drop in and out of whenever they like. Nations rise and fall, after all.
Finally, if you haven't gathered from all the above information, this is a nitty-gritty RP. It's not a swooping story arc composed masterpiece of Internet literature, it's you running a country, with all the down-to-Earth (literally...if we use Earth as our planet that is) budgeting and rivalries and such that come with that.
So those are the three ideas that are currently in my head. I'm sure I'll come up with more and I'll just keep posting them in here. Obviously if I get an idea I search it on the forums first to see if it already exists (actively). I'm also totally willing to do a sci-fi 1x1 with someone if they're looking for a partner. I check here usually twice a day so I would be regularly on to run things. I lead an extremely busy life, though, so things can come up that prevent me from getting on for a while, but if that happens I'll try to let everyone involved know beforehand. So far both here and at RPGFO I've posted in a couple RPs or RP interest threads and progress has been very slow, and I really want to just jump in and start playing, so I figured I should just go ahead and post my RP ideas. I'd be willing to do more than one of these at once, as well (maybe even all of them).
Idea #1 (street racing) could be as few as four players but with really no upper limit. Idea #2 (persistent bars/taverns) could be any number of players from 2 up. Idea #3 (CaN) ideally is at least four players and up to I'd say about 20. If more are interested we could have multiple planets or planet instances, analogous to servers in an online game, to handle the load. I think more than 20 countries would start to get very hard to keep track of.
Let me know by posting here (or PM if you want, but I'd prefer here) if you're interested, and specify which one. Keep in mind Idea #3 is highly collaborative. Or, if you have a different idea that you think I would like (I like sci-fi) post that too. I'm open to all suggestions. There's also a poll up top where you can vote on which ones you like (you can select multiple options).
Thanks for reading and I hope we can get at least one of these started!
