"Once upon a time"
The fables you all know as children all used to live in a world separate from ours. While the stories are not exactly the same as you have been told, they lived in relative harmony. For the most part. But they were chased out of their world and into ours, by an entity only known as the adversary. Trapped in our world, The fables had to adapt in order to stay hidden and safe. Creating a clandestine government known as "Fabletown", they attempt to make the best of their current situation, living in New York.
In order to hide from the "mundies" or the mundane, non fairy tale people, the fairy tales without a human appearance employ the use of glamour. Able to give human appearances to certain fairy tale characters, it is a well desired commodity, only being able to be created by a well trained witch. For those who require it, walking out into the public without glamour results in capital punishment.
But it is not all that well trying to adapt to the harsh cruel world of reality that they now share with the humans. It seems that this world has tainted them- a world filled with sex, violence, and moral ambiguity. Murder between the citizens of Fabletown are increasing, as more and more Fables find out that death is permanent in the human world. Once inseparable couples now find themselves at each other's throats. Class inequality has also spread throughout "Fabletown". The upper class enjoy sanitary living areas, many living in luxury apartments. They are able to afford glamour for several lifetimes. The poor are living in broken down motels, the streets, and the public parks. The poor citizens that require glamour can barely afford enough to get by, forcing many to take more undesirable jobs, some even resorting to prostitution. The once generally ecstatic family of fables are slowly drifting further and further apart as deep class divisions leave bitter resentments all around.
To make matters worse, it seems a serial killer is on the loose, severing the heads of fables and leaving them in plain sight. With all evidence pointing to a fable, many in Fabletown start pointing fingers and becoming more and more paranoid. If a psychotic killer on the loose isn't bad enough, it seems the mundanes are growing more and more aware of the fables in New York.
Will Fabletown crumble under the weight of it's problems after all this time? Will the mundies find them, forcing them into exile? Or will the serial killer finally get all of them in the end? The situation seems bleak, and there are no signs of improvement to come..
For the most part, they were once peaceful, harmless people, or things, with a few exceptions. But the human world has tainted them, and they are not as merry as they used to be. Not by a long shot. Growing more violent and grim as time passed, many fables became mentally disturbed by the horrors of the human world. While Fables can die in this mortal world, it takes a lot to do so. usually beheading or destruction of a vital limb will do the trick. Otherwise, they can regenerate, some healing faster than others due to their Fairy Tale's popularity. All Fables live in New York under the Fabletown government. The Rich normally live in the Woodsland Apartments, while the poor Fables live in run down motels or public spaces. Rich Fables usually get priority with any problems, while the poor are turned away.
"Mundies", or the mundane, are non fairy tale characters. They are normal humans through and through, nothing outwardly special. Fables must conceal themselves from the mundane due to the mass panic that would occur if Fables were discovered.
The form of government that the Fables have. It has an elected mayor, a deputy mayor, sheriff, and librarian. The mayor makes executive decisions, such as laws, while the deputy mayor makes administrative changes. The sheriff enforces the law, while the librarian is called upon if there is uncertainty or if the mayor requires a second opinion. As of current times, the administration has been under fire for supporting the rich while letting the poor continue in their The rules are almost the same with any human laws, with a few additions.
1. Fables will not appear in public places without a human appearance. Failure to use glamour will result in deportation to the farmhouse or execution.
2. Fables may not reveal their identity or true form to a human.
3. If one's form is found out by a mundane, either the mundane or Fable must die. No exceptions.
4. Fables may exact revenge on crimes occurring within the last year. Any longer than that, it is under the hands of the sheriff to determine punishment.
A separately purchased piece of farm land where the Fables that do not have a human form and cannot afford Glamour are placed. While the farmhouse is huge and every attempt is made to keep it's occupants satisfied, many despise it. After all, it is just a luxury prison if you are not allowed to leave by free will.
1. GM and Co-Gm word is law. Don't worry though, as we will usually seek general consensus before reaching important decisions.
2. No infighting in OOC, please act like adults. Be courteous towards others.
3. If you want to leave, you may do so at any time. I know RL ain't predictable, but i'd be nice if you drop a notice or something to tell us whether you're alive or want to leave.
3. While Fables are strong, please do not godmod, there is still a limit.
4. No controlling other RPer's Characters without consent.
4. No Mary/Marty Sues.
5. Romance is allowed, but if you want sex scenes leave that to PM thank you.
6. Ideas and Suggestions are welcomed!
7. I don't know if this will be problem, normally depends on the amount of people in the rp, but, please do not go fast if it seems that many posts are being made withing a short amount of time. Keep it at a manageable pace so people can keep up, and if it seem like a 1x1, consider taking a break until other RPer's come online.
8. Please make an attempt to read all the information. Skim if you must, so that you have a basic understanding of the RP.
9. Read rules 1-8, and this one as well. You can choose to skip reading the rules and enter the phrase at the bottom your CS anyway, I won't know. But give me the benefit of the doubt and do so. The phrase is "Once upon a time."

If one wishes to play as a mundane, or a normal human, you must PM me before you decide to make a CS. Failure to do so will end up in rejection. The reason for this rule is that this story is mainly about the fables, and mundies are generally avoided, so it'd take some planning to allow a Mundie inside of the story.
The Government Positions for Fabletown are open if anyone wishes to be one of these individuals.

The Woodsman was not a good person even before the Fables came to New York. He was unable to put food on the table, and seeing that Red Riding Hood had an abundance of food, The Woodsman had decided to steal from her. Coming into her grandma’s house after Red Riding Hood did, knowing that she had always brought food for her ailing grandma, was attacked by the Big Bad Wolf. Defending himself, he was seen as a hero by Red Riding Hood, who spread the word. He became something he wasn’t. In the eyes of all the Fables, he was the knight in shining armor. But he didn’t want anything to do with the title “Hero”. All it did was get him a free drink from time to time, but no food. It continued on like this until the fables were forced into New York. The Woodsman, tired of attempting convince people he wasn’t a hero, eventually gave up. He recently became a binge drinker, yelling random unintelligible rants at the random passer-by. His moods contrast greatly, he may yell, “Do you know who I am? The Woodsman that’s who! A goddamned hero!”, and the other half of the time he is simply breaking down at the distraught state of his life. Once sobered up though, he is generally reasonable but gloomy.

A Note From the GM:
The purpose of this roleplay is creativity and free roaming. I will enter in some plot from time to time, but for the most part, this is your story. Judge other characters as you seem fit. As your character interacts with others, their personalities can change. Or they can remain the stubborn bastard they always were. It's up to you. Make friends, enemies, or lovers. Be creative with the fairy tale characters. Your character's destiny is not predetermined by the fairy tale. Perhaps the Big Bad Wolf has reconciled his differences with the little three pigs and is actually good friends with them. Perhaps Beauty may go woo someone else if she thinks that Beast isn't exactly the soulmate she thought he would be. Just have fun, as Roleplaying is supposed to be a fun hobby where you can relax from the troubles of the real world.
The OOC will update from time to time, so check back periodically!
Nothing happened yet, there's no IC yet. So why are you looking here? Hmmm? Suspicious!
Silly child. You get virtual cookies for your trouble though! Here, take one! Enjoy them while it lasts!
