It is the winter of 2014, New York. Two years has passed since the emergence of the transcendent, people with extraordinary physical properties. They have become popular culture icons in the eyes of media and the people by devoting their time to philanthropy, conventions, political debate, red carpet events, fashion and marketing, and law and rescue operations around the world. One could define them as superheroes in a realistic form, unlike the traditional vigilante. Besides, comic book superheroism would be practically impossible due to modern technology, laws, and ideologies.
The transcendent are known by their first names. They are always invited to all the important events and festivities, sponsored by dozens of profit and non-profit organizations and corporations, tended to by all manner of private personnel and publicists, and called upon when ordinary law and rescue services are not sufficient. What the transcendent think about any form of subject is of the utmost importance, as they are considered more than human. Their philosophies, ideologies, and religious beliefs are often the fundamental center of discussion in media and scholarly circles.
There are a number of effects caused by the appearance of the transcendent, some of which are devastating to the overall tranquility of the world. Islamic radicals have proclaimed the transcendent to be the instruments of evil and the western world, which has increased the number of coercion through terrorism. A dispute between factions of the Christian Church has led to civil unrest in the western world, causing the century old divide between Catholics and Protestants to reemerge and wreak havoc. The Henderson-Smith Act is about to expire. It bound all the transcendent to international neutrality and legal prevention of individual alignment to any one ideology. Nations around the world has offered their transcendent of choice unfathomable fortunes in exchange for privatization of their allegiance to that particular nation. The United Nations are pushing for a renewal of the Henderson-Smith Act and an allegiance to the greater good for all of mankind for the transcendent. Tension is rising and in the coming days all will be decided.
You are impervious to any form of harm caused by anything other than another transcendent, you will most likely live forever, all of your physical attributes are elevated beyond any known capacity, you can fly, and you have heat vision—laser beams of astral energy shooting out of your eyes. These powers are shared by all transcendent. However, what you can do is not important in this roleplay, even if what you can do makes you special. There will certainly be instances in which you get to exert these powers, but it is not the main focus of the story. The reason why I do not let you choose your powers by yourselves is that it always leads to trouble. Everyone wants to be the most powerful, which leads to e-penis measuring, and if you get to choose the powers yourself, you are going to put too much effort into finding an excuse for using them.
You became a transcendent at the end of 2012. You begin the story bound to the Henderson-Smith Act, which means that you cannot fully side with any particular ideology. You are either good or neutral. However, the story is about your decisions once the act expires and the consequences of those decisions. This is when you can become a ‘villain,’ if you so choose, by siding with an ideal or political party of questionable parameters. However, even if you side with something that is considered acceptable, it will provoke whatever that is on the opposite end. Therefore, no matter what you choose, you will trigger confrontation somewhere in the world.

Conduct. Be polite and formal in any and all threads regarding this play. Refrain from discussing your private beliefs concerning the themes and topics in the story. Try to speak in generalities, weigh different perspectives against one another rather than blatantly siding with one, and refrain from speculating about what I think, what someone else thinks, or what the world thinks.
Content. Your efforts will reflect your dedication. At any moment, I might question that dedication through a private message. Unless you break the rules in a blatant fashion, I will not exclude you from the roleplay. However, I might persuade you into resigning if your dedication is faltering.
Absence. If you have not posted something in a week, you will be excluded from the roleplay. I will not hold a grudge against you if this happens and you do not have to apologize. If you want to quit the roleplay, for whatever reason, let me know—I will not be offended or prevent you from joining any of my future plays.
Number of Positions. I want to provide an experience and tend to each player on a personal level. I cannot do this if there are more than five or six players including myself, which means that there are four-five roles available.
Style. Besides participating in the play myself, I will respond to each player’s posts in the form of non-player and environment reactions and interaction, if and when it is suitable.
