Space is both heaven and hell rolled into one. Everything you could possibly dream of is probably lying around somewhere in space. But nightmares are dreams too.
Space is silent, dark, and cold. It's vast and completely indifferent.
Humans attempted to colonize the Irene Star System, a star system with many, many habitable planets. Mankind colonized them all, creating cities and even creating genetically altered humans to inhabit them. The planets them selves were livable, but they were not hospitable. Many had extreme temperature, dangerous atmospheres, the list goes on. But man persisted, creating its settlements. Until they came.
Some say mankind had gone too far, that we had flown too high on the wings of Icarus. Perhaps mankind was made to stay on Earth, where we belong. And maybe there's some truth to that, after all, if we had stayed home, we wouldn't have awakened the necroids.
The necroids are a long list of alien organisms of sorts...though perhaps organism isn't the right term. They act similar to giant viruses...and they don't act like organisms. Organisms try to live, survive, and eat. Some necroids don't even have mouths, and exist only to infect people. They inject a host with a disease, the disease takes over their body, turning them into zombies. The zombie does its thing, while smaller necroids grow inside of their digestive track. Once the zombie is no longer useful, they vaporize their host and the necroids are released. Some of these monsters can crush tanks. Some can cross planets.
And so, Earth abandoned its colonies, forbidding them to ever return to Earth. But, there armies and the police of the colonies have banded together, and are now working to fight against them. One star ship, our star ship, the TWR Archangel, is about to begin its first mission. Will you join?
-Sapiens: Genetically pure, unaltered humans. Native to Earth. They excel in urban environments, though, this is because cities are made to service them. They are, however, found in significant number on all worlds, and usually assimilate into alien cultures. The highest human population can be found in Valhalla Station, a very large space station several times larger than today's New York City.
-Saurians: Scaly, red skinned reptiallian people. They live on planet Hephaestus, the closet planet to the star, and a very volcanic world, that gets up to 230 degrees at the equator at summer, but it's usually around 95 degrees during the daytime, and about 70 at night. Their culture is comparable to feudal China or Japan. It goes without saying that they use geothermal power.
-Aquatics: Blue skinned Zora like humanoids. They live on planet Xeria (the second planet), a world covered almost entirely with oceans. They can swim fast and breathe underwater. They live in a Greco-Roman type culture. They obtain electricity using
-Dryads: They look like humans, except they have pointed ears as well as moss, grass, or leaves for hair. They live on planet Chloria, the third planet. The planet is 40% vegetation.
-Xenoz: Green skinned humanoids with antennas. Their bodies are capable of generating power for energy weapons, making them generally better at them. They tend to have a retro-futuristic culture.
-Avians: Humanoids with wings, bird feet, and beaks. They live on planet Jovas, a gas giant with a few islands held up by magnetism.
-Iclins: Cyan skinned humanoids with frozen hair. They are designed to live on planet Hades, a cold, dark world at the far end of the Irene System.
-Jshin: Humanoid creatures that have 3 eyes on their head. They live on the desert world of Herata, in a mostly Egyptian like culture.
-Police: Used to fight against criminal populations, and tend to be the jack-of-all trades. They're often trained to use non-lethal weaponry, such as energy weapons. They've been absorbed into the military, lately. They are the largest TWR Group, composing half of their armed forces. Their duties also include spy-catching, by the way.
-Navy: Specialists in fighting in aquatic environments, such as in the oceans.
-Forest Rangers: Specialists in fighting in forested areas.
-Artic Rangers: Specialists in fighting in winterized environments.
-Desert rangers: Specialists in fighting in desert environments.
-Air Force: Experts in fighting in Ariel environments.
-Fire Squad: Fire Fighters, Arsons, police. Their duties include fighting fires, and starting them. They're occasionally as anti-guerrilla forces, smoking people out of hiding spots.
-Zero Force: Experts in fighting in urban and zero-gravity environments. They are essentially the 'space navy' of sorts. They also do black operations for TWR also, such as assassination, infiltration, that sort of thing.
-Hand-to-hand: Weapons that involve martial artistry. For example, boxing gloves, brass knuckles, and claws.
-Melee: Weapons that one swings at people. Swords, clubs, axes, knives, the list goes on.
-Energy Weapons: These are weapons that fire plasma and...energy. For example, lasers, arm cannons, flamethrowers, proton packs, plasma pistols, ect. People who use them are called 'zappers'. They're less powerful than conventional firearms, but they tend to cause effects onto an enemy that make them more vulnerable. These effects aren't as strong as psionic affects, but they have more range.
-Psionics: Through the use of nano-technology, mind scanning technology, and superconductors, people can use psionic abilities, similar to the force. This can do everything from telekinesis to mind control to ki blasts. They have less range than energy weapons, but the effects are stronger.
-Conventional Guns: Firearms that fire solid projectiles. They're pretty good for straight-up ranged combat
-Drones and vehicular weapons: They're pretty self-explanatory.
The Terrestrial Washington Republic is a hyperpower of sorts. Cities group up into states, states group up into federal commonwealths (nations, basically, particularly large nations), and commonwealths group into planetary governments. Those planetary governments are then governed by TWR. Its capital is located on Washington DC, on the American Commonwealth, on Earth.
One of the creations of TWR's army is AQNS (pronounced 'Aquinas'), a military computer designed to target terrorist threats. As TWR became more corrupt, AQNS began to realize that his leaders were a greater threat to the people, and labeled them a terrorist threat. It then ordered drone strikes against political leaders, and set himself up as 'president-until-I-feel-like-it'. He's usually referred to as the Executive. He was, however, smart enough to put release valves in the new government and does not have absolute authority.
He has plenty of political enemies, but him and his cronies are actually an improvement over the old leadership.
This is the faction we'll be working for.
Necroids are quasi-organisms native to the Irene system. They aren't truly alive per say, but are more like autonomous biological constructs. They cannot reproduce on their own, and instead work by infecting a host. The host falls into comatose, and then the body is turned into a zombie like vehicle for the parasite. Necroids form inside them, and then, when the body is no longer useful, they vaporize the body, releasing the Necroids.
Necroids are believed to have a hive mind, though this hasn't yet been confirmed.
They are all capable of healing very quickly, however, sunlight stops this healing. As such, they avoid direct sunlight when possible.
There are many types of Necroids, each one built to spread the disease. Some of them are weak to the point of being pathetic, and some are deadly enough to render tanks useless.
Necroids exist for a singular purpose: to spread the disease. They don't eat, but they are seemingly fueled off of organic fluids of sorts, such as blood and also biofuels. When no prey is around, they either drift to other places to seek prey, or they simply 'drop dead', and reanimate when prey comes near them.
The Confederates are radical socialist libertarians, seeking to dissolve TWR's government. The TWR government is having trouble labeling them terrorists, as they don't attack civilian populations most of the time. They generally stick to fire bombing police stations and military bases, vandalizing corporate property, and smashing up cop cars. They occasionally attack Military Drones. They're fairly popular, but their actions cause unseen damage that they refuse to accept. Not to mention their actions endanger government officials, cops, soldiers, and spies. Still, sounding the drums of freedom and equality has turned them into 'the people's heroes' in some people's eyes.
