THOSE AMONG US: Chapter 1
"Dusk in Dark Corners"
"What are you?" They would ask as they pressed down with their judging gaze and long sticks taken up just for this. "Freak, why you have those weird black eyes? And that black hair?" They would pinch at the pale flesh, "you look like something out of a scary movie. Was your mom a ghost or something?" No memory of a mother came forth, only the memory of a painful city and it's cruel streets with long days of empty pockets and empty bellies. So often did another child strike for no other reason than a skin-deep bias no more forgiving than the society that created it. Everyone feels like that sometimes, right? Was there really an answer in existence that hasn't been warped by someone else's view? So the beatings given had a faithful taker.
What if the difference wasn't skin deep though? Could something lie just underneath, a power greater than anyone knew existed. Yet it has always been there in those that came before. Did it frighten others into attacking? The feeling could not be shaken, leaving only the waiting, and what little hope aloud to exist would aid. Maybe others would join the search, and they would understand the desperation of it. Again it seemed hope would play the broken companion.
Maybe after everything, all that would remain is the anger of being cast out, or maybe a life could be found. One that could be lived with others who call out, "family." The day is coming where truths come out. Will they be heard?
Hello, I am ArchangelUriel, Uriel for short, and this is a basic interest check for THOSE AMONG US. TAU is an rp I tried a little while ago, and while it's a good idea, it wasn't fully rounded out yet, and I wasn't quite good at GMing yet, so it didn't make it long. Now it's a different story. Except the story, the story is the same story. It's a good story. Moving on.
You my fellow rper will play an orphan; adopted, not adopted whatever. The point is your character will not know their biological parents. You're branded with peculiar features, pitch black irises, black hair, and pale skin. Don't worry too much on this rather constricting aspect as that will change early on to whatever your heart desires. They know they're not quite usual, and often are persecuted because of this. For the most part they're normal. At the beginning of this RP, that will change. They will find that they are becoming stronger, faster, more durable, and last but not least have unimaginable powers. They will also find they're not alone in this as all sorts of unimaginable chaos begins to unfold on the underbelly of "The City."
"The City" is just like every other city with lots of people, lots of noise, everyone playing to get to the top, and a mystery to be unraveled. It is divided into five parts:
Central - Where the skyscrapers touch the heavens, the business men scurry, and the cities powers lie.
Uptown - Rich residences, exquisite restaurants, and powerful people reside here.
Downtown - Middle class and the majority of the population is here in this typical residential area.
The Westside - Lower class, the homeless and impoverished reside here in the cities underbelly.
The Eastside - The industrial part of the City where the sky is a diry green-blue, and a quarter of the city is employed.
This will be round robin style GMing. While I will have the most control over the main plot, this will be done episodically, and everyone will get a chance to GM, adding to the plot and building upon the lore. I will always be the backup GM and here to help if something is unclear, but because this is an original rp, I believe it's healthier to have more than one person putting in the creative juices. I'm not going to hover over shoulders to make sure you don't mess up my precious, because that wouldn't be any fun, so for the most part everyone who joins will be helping to build upon this. As far as the plot, I have a grand over arcing plot, but like I said it will be episodic, so it's free reign there as well. I'll just be upping the ante every so often to mix things up.
This also means OOC, so once you're excepted you're welcome to accept other CSs monitor your fellow rpers, and so on.
-There is plenty of pictures on the internet, please use one for the sake of convenience.
-No anime pics please. Sorry, it was either only anime or none. I leaned toward none.
-Doesn't have to have black hair, eyes, and paleness. Like I said that's only to start, and your pic will be more accurate in the long run.
-Ages between 14-20. Have to be young to fit the profile of the protagonists.
-Powers are an extension of what your character is familiar with. Your character likes fire = uses fire. Simple enough?
-Biography is your audition: make it good, let me know you’re serious about this, and you're in.
"It's started. "A broad shouldered man with wavy black hair and a well-trimmed beard stood in front of his lighter haired and bodied companion. They peered over the edge of a skyscraper into heart of the central City. The buildings painted an imposing and beautiful scene across the night's dark horizon. Lights of yellow, blue, and white mingled and reflected off the window panes of adjacent buildings.
The blonde man walked forward until he stood shoulder to shoulder to with the larger man. "You know you're putting all you're faith in some broken street children, right?" The man said calmly.
"I am the reason they became such, am I not?" The dark haired man took a rugged tone. "They are the only hope we have. We are outnumbered, and out matched. Need I even mention the recent catastrophe with the Demi? You may see rats, but I see lion cubs. Now it is time for the first hunt," the man's determination seemed to grow ever so slightly.
"So you have unsealed the Book?" Still he maintained an even tone.
"That is why we are here tonight, Mr. Teney."
"Here? Where?" His slight astonishment was the first sign of a soul the man had shown that night. His larger companion pointed out over the city. Teney followed the man's index finger to just above the pointed roof of the neighboring Celestial Labs building. "The seal was in plain sight the entire time?" His voice held signs of his hidden annoyance. The brawny man's hand started accumulating small sparks which quickly grew to small contained bolts, before shooting out. As the bolt passed just over the building he'd pointed to, it vanished. The man lowered his hand, and after a few long seconds a bright flash took its place. Every nearby building, with the exception of the one they were standing on, shut down for a few minutes. "So it is done?"
"Yes, the Book's seal is broken. They will soon find a very different world in place of this one."
"Master, I need ask. Why do you not just go to them? They would embrace you with open arms."
"Maybe, but many have already died. Someone is watching me, and if I go to them, I will be followed, and they will be killed."
"Yes, of course," He averted his eyes; he knew how much that would hurt his master to even say that. "So, the Demi, they will awaken too, right master?"
His master let out a breath, "yes. I will try to deal with them before they wreak havoc, but odds are, they will find the children."
"Do you think they'll survive?"
"I can only hope."
Minutes passed before Teney spoke again, "you see that right?" He pointed to the building across from them. The faintest outline of a person could be seen. The dark haired man smiled and nodded. "You sure that's a good thing to let happen?"
"He's doing half our work for us."
"But if he finds the Demi file -
"He won't. He'll find what he needs to find."
"His place in the world," and with that the man vanished. Teney sighed, whatever his master had in mind, he'd be the last one to know. Then he too vanished in the night.
The door to a dark office slowly opened and a dark hair young man took its place. He slipped around the door, and closed it as silent as possible, but he could still hear the click of the door knob. Mason Leighton looked at his watch, and noted that he still had plenty of time to be back home before suspicion arose. Continuing across the large office space, Mason reached the computer at the far end and turned it on. The name on the desk read Dr. Daniel Leighton, his adoptive father. The password was easy enough, 121175, his adoptive mother's birthday. Then a multitude of files appeared on the screen. Mason gripped the bridge of his nose. Of course it couldn't be simple, he thought.
A few minutes he spent looking for suspicious files, but finally one read "Project Black Eyes". The file couldn't be opened without another password. Mason slammed his fits down in anger, and to his surprise, it worked. Not spending another second questioning it, he began sifting through another set of files. He briefly felt as if someone watched him from a distance, so he turned and looked out the large window behind him. Deciding he was only paranoid, he went back to the computer. Many seemed odd, "Titan", "Demi", and the one that caught his attention, "Subjects of Interest". His eyes scanned the room cautiously, before he opened the file. It held a list of personnel files, all about his age, and all had his black eyes and hair. "Father what have you done," he whispered to himself as he grabbed a pen and post-it note from the desk and started writing down names, and last known locations.
The door knob wiggled, and Mason ducked under the desk. He cursed the moment he got trapped in the elevator due to a brief power outage. The light went on, and a humming maid entered. A plan formulated in his mind, and Mason reached on the desk for any object. His hand wrapped around a stapler, and he whipped it at the maid. It didn't hit her, but her squeal hurt his ears. She cautiously approached with wide eyes, and a drooping jaw. Mason watched her feet drawing closer. As she walked around the desk, he crouched around the opposite side. The maid looked under the desk, and Mason took the opportunity to swiftly exit the room. She might have caught a glimpse of the back of his head, but he counted it a successful evasion. As he got to the elevator and pressed the down button, he leaned against the wall and pulled out the notes. Looking closer at them he read the names. "Well let's see what's so special about you."
So that's where we're at. I want at least six or so players. Just saying you're interested will not count you in. I want something substantial, so I know that you're not going to flake. Once I get that, OOC and IC go up. I already have both made, so pretty much when we get the players is when we start.
Thanks for your time, and welcome to THOSE AMONG US: Chapter 1. This is where it starts.
