Accepting applications for scientists at the moment
The government has their own secrets and the common people do not know about some of these secrets until many decades later. Even some branches of the government doesn’t know what certain other branches are for or what they do- something like the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing kind of thing really.
Planet Travel Committee or PTC as it will be known as from here on, is one of the most hidden branch of the government created. It was created in the turn of the century due to the raising probability of needing to relocate to a new world. It had been noted that Earth was getting smaller each passing year because of the over population as well as the fact that the Earth was getting to be very polluted for various reasons.
In this RP a group of hand selected scientists will be sent off into space to find a new world where people can begin over again. Of course there is the possibility of never coming back or even dying for the cause. When these scientists arrive at the new planet which will be be called Sanctuary for the People or SFP, they will encounter magic, new creatures and food that they never saw before. They will have to be able to survive and make the world ready for the next ship which will set off to the same location with a new set of passengers.
The rocket ship will be fully automated and for the most of the trip, the scientists will be asleep in chambers of gel like substance. Towards the end, the chambers will be emptied of the gel and an automatic shower will clean the enclosed person before it opens up. Or at least it supposed to do that. We will see what happens as we get to near our destination point.
If you feel qualified as one of the scientists, feel free to fill out the following application.
Age: (20 for junior scientist/assistant to 27- 35 for a full fledged scientist)
Specialization: (type of degree/major- I need a variety of scientists from the following categories- animal research, plant research, geologist, paleontology and of course medical development. No more than one from a category, please!)
Anything else you want others to know:
Please feel free to ask any questions!
Scientist name: Dr. Theresa Connors
Specialization: Animal Research
Anything else you want others to know: Theresa is the product of her farmer parents. Being a lover of animals herself, she jumped at the option to become an animal researcher for a new planet of all things. She is a clumsy woman but a very smart one and appreciates it when people point that out, having been doing good things for most of her childhood for animals without thanks. She is fully supported by her parents.
Name: Sergeant Giles Mercer, Sc.D.
Specialization: Botany (genetic engineering)
Background: From a very young age, Giles had always shown a fascination with the workings of plant and animal life, spending much of his spare time either in the local park, observing it, and when he got a bit older, in the library, studying it. As he aged, growing up in a rough neighborhood, he also began to learn his way around some basic weaponry and methods of self-defence, though his interest in plants never wavered, nor did his plans to find a way to pursue that interest as a career.
Having grown up in a family with a less than spectacular income, Giles ended up taking advantage of the latest GI bill, enlisting in the military to pay his way through college. He ended up serving longer than he had originally planned, working his way beyond the initial BS in Natural Sciences, all the way up to a doctorate in genetics. A couple of years after finishing his doctorate and working R&D at a few different major laboratories, he got a call from one of his old commanding officers, telling him that there was going to be a classified research expedition that was likely to need both a botanist and a security chief. He went ahead and applied for the new job, always interested on being at the cutting edge of his field, and soon found himself packing up to get started on the journey.
Scientist name: Roweena Miller
Anything else you want others to know:
Roweena is no longer close to her family for they did not want her to be a working woman at all. She pursued her college degree despite their protests. Finally her father decided that she wanted to throw away ‘her own money and inheritance’ then let her do so. After she received her portion of the family wealth, Roweena was told to get her belongings together and leave their home. She had three days to do so. Rest of the family left (she had 2 younger sisters and an older brother) for a vacation while she gathered her things under the close supervision of the family maids. She left most of her fancy clothes and all of her furniture behind. She had bought a small RV which she loaded what she couldn’t leave behind.
Roweena worked her way through college and saved her money as much as possible. When she was advised by her counselor to fill out the application for a special chance at this unknown special government career, she agreed even though she was not yet finished with her degree.
Name: Wolfgang Fassbinder
Pic: To come soon...
Other stuff: Born in a set of triplets to a famous German Palaeontologist, Ada Fassbinder. It seems as though only Wolfgang inherited his mothers love for fossils, as one of his other brothers was a sports freak, the other an aspiring architect. Their differing interests did not quell their competitiveness, as they scrambled to outdo each other in a desperate fight for their parents attention. This fierce competitiveness and feeling to outdo others now makes up a large part Wolfgang, and helped him graduate the top of his class in college majoring in, what else, palaeontology. Through his skill, and connections his mother had, he got the position of the head of the palaeontology department at the University of Berlin. When he heard of PTC, he quickly applied, and then later was selected to be part of the mission into space.
Scientist name: Dr. Petra Dodson
Specialization: Medical development
Anything else you want others to know: Petra was born in a small Dutch town to the local Doctor and his wife. While her mother filled the roll of dutiful housewife Petra's parents never expected her to do the same.
It became obvious when she was 10 that Petra would one day follow in her father's foot steps when she submitted for her first Science fair an insightful study of the immunity rates of various Virus and Bacteria against Antibiotics.
She won first place and was immediately extended the right to attend an Alpha school. Her parents were surprised when she turned it down saying she could learn more studying under her own father..
It was when she submitted a study on Oncology which resulted in an advancement in that field's fight against Cancer that her dad insisted that Petra attend collage at age 15 an study premed. His defense and reason was that she could accomplish so much more with access to proper labs and material.
Interning by age 19 Petra was on the fast track of medical research till the day her parents died in a fiery plane crash. She was 24 at the time and still very dependent on them so their loss sent her into a depression that took her two years to bounce back from.
Her star forgotten in most circles and in doubt as well seemed endanger of being extinguished till a project manager from Sanctuary saw a paper published by her on an extrapolation of possible Extraterrestrial disease growth in an extended low to zero gravity environment.[/QUOTE]
Scientist name: Tom Rekir
Other: Awkward socially, he is a workaholic and prefers to whittle his hours away doing one task or another. He can be described as OCD with his work, making sure every last inch is perfect and willing to take his time to do so. Personality... prefer to let that reveal itself.
