The world is a mess. Or at least America is.
Mutants have been around for eons, though hardly known to man and initially written off in history as nothing more than fairytales, bedtime stories, legends, merely myths. They made themselves known widely across America and Russia early into the 1960s when some attempted to start World War III on the basis of ignorance believed to be fact while others aided in stopping them. Mutants then became divided amongst one another. The ones most people are familiar with are those who make it their business to hassle humans. They hate humans and they hate them out loud. Humans are nothing more than weak prey, sometimes viewed as threats, more often viewed as annoyances and lesser evolved creatures to be brushed aside as such. Smaller in number are those who harbor no hatred towards all humans for the actions of the relatively few. They tend to be a bit wiser, their vision of peace yet to be shattered. Humans are their brethren – After all most of them were human once before they evolved into the mutants that they are now. They actively pursue unity between humans and mutants, trying so hard to educate everyone in peace and what it means to be mutants as well as how to live in harmony. To try and get them to understand that the people they are so willing to burn at the stake once were and still are the people they were before. Sons, daughters, mothers, fathers. Sure, some grow corrupted with their power. But many people do when you give them any form of power. And how can it not be expected when they know that they will immediately be perceived as a threat and hunted and persecuted? Still, some try to make peace. Then you have the majority. They live quiet lives passing as humans, hiding their mutations any way that they can and taking no sides but their own. Some ignore the problem until it's knocking down their door and breathing down there neck. When did mutants become a large enough issue for people to take serious steps? Over the past 10 and 20 years. Mutants seemed to grow in numbers, though attacks lessened and things seemed at a standstill. Many humans went on hating mutants and mutants went on hating them all while simply coexisting. Several events did provoke them into what eventually became a war.
2003. A World Summit meeting took place in New York City. It was there that the mutant known as Magneto attempted to forcibly awaken the dormant X-Gene found in all humans that would begin their transformation into mutants. He failed. 2005. It was discovered by a special operations team of mutants known as the X-Men as well as Magneto and a few of his brothers in arms that human by the name of William Stryker was performing heinous experiments on kidnapped mutants. It didn't matter whether they were young or old, strong or feeble. If they were mutants, they were targets. Those that were captured were rescued and many human lives were lost, though the greatest life lost that day was that of Jean Grey. She died to save her friends. 2006. The war began. Nothing too great; it lasted merely a few hours or so and hardly a life was lost. Not even nearing the hundreds. Worthington Labs had found a young mutant boy who they called Leech. His ability was to negate the abilities of other mutants. His mere presence forced there X-Gene to go temporarily dormant for as long as they remained within a foot of his body. And a genuine attempt to help mutants, they began to use his DNA to work on a "cure". When it was announced, Magneto and many others were certainly not please. Oh, Jean Grey lived. She survived all those years with the aid of her alter ego and ultimate power, The Phoenix. It was because of the Phoenix that she unintentionally killed her long time love Scott Summers, and later Professor Charles Xavier. Magneto gathered his army while the ones known as Storm and Wolverine gathered their small team and defended Worthington Labs where Magneto intended to kill every human there and possibly even Leech and every living thing that posed a threat. Many mutants were "cured", but Leech lived and the war ended with Magneto's curing and final death of Jean Grey and The Phoenix. The president of the United States made a public apology and announced that the mutant known as Hank McCoy (or Beast) to be the new ambassador for mutants as well as ambassador for the United States, speaking on behalf of humans and mutants alike. The cure was later revealed to be only temporary and all productions of cure weapons were halted.
Things were calm.
Humans thought that mutants were all there was out there. Until 2007 when Thor, the Scandinavian god of thunder was banished to earth and seemed forced into a grudge match when his adopted brother Loki, the Scandinavian god of mischief and magic sent the Destroyer, a magical and nigh indestructible guardian of Asgard. They leveled a town in New Mexico for simply disappearing without an expiration to the public. It was only a year after that when Loki, thought by all of Asgard to be dead, attacked earth was an army of aliens called Chi'Tauri, chasing after the Tesseract. He intended you trade the source of ultimate power for aid in taking over Midgard. Thus, the Avengers formed. Hank Pym, Antman. Janet van Dyne, Wasp. Anthony "Tony" Stark, Iron Man. Natasha Romanof, the Black Widow. Steve Rogers, Captain America. Clint Barton, Hawkeye. Robert "Bruce" Banner, Hulk. Thor Odinson, Thor. They formed an elite team and put their skills together to take down Loki and his army, saving Midgard. Loki was taken back to Asgard along with the Tesseract and was sentenced to prison. But I didn't soothe the people of the Midgard. At least not the humans. Questions began to rise and, well. They got their answers and many of them were exactly too please with it. Little did they know, Midgaard was sending out a beacon to all the other worlds. They were ready for a higher form of war. Loki. The Chi'Tauri army. The Destroyer of Worlds. All defeated on the grounds of Midgard. The people of Midgard were no longer feeble and stupid. They were evolving, some more than others. Every passing day, a warrior was born. Every passing year, prodigies came to life. They were ready to fight for their right to live and it wasn't going to be a cakewalk. But, before that would happen, they would allow the real warriors to rise. Thin out the herd. Those wishing to claim Midgard as their own conquered world wanted formidable opponents. They wanted to test those of Midgard. Surely, there were more than just a handful of warriors. There had to be more.
What is a pack? A battalion. A gang. A coterie. Brothers and sisters in arms. The Pack is a group of creatures from all walks of life that have the same vision Loki had. With a few differences...
On June 2nd, 2011 something extraordinary happened. Cell phones rang, televisions switched on, computers turned on, and all the screens across New York City began to show a video. Authorities have yet to confirm where the video originated from, but everyone watched it in awe. An unidentified camera operator followed as other unidentified individuals made their way through the forest and came upon what looked like a KKK rally. Hooded figures holding hands stood in a circle around a pyre as a man stood in the center where fourteen crying individuals appearing to range between the ages of four and late twenties were standing upon chairs, nooses around their necks. The man preached on about the “sickness” that infested America – Mutants, aliens, so-called gods, and various radioactive freaks along with their sympathizers. They were going to cleanse the world – Starting with these “abominations”.
There were mixed reactions from the viewers at home – Anger, agreement, shock, concern, fear, amusement.
They thought that the gathering was filming their attack as an attempt to send out a message.
But they soon realized that it was an entirely different group with an entirely different agenda as the camera began to soon move closer and closer. Everything seemed to be a blur as war cries, pleas for help, and screams of agony and surprise rang out. A fight ensued and the saviors were not holding back.
And then it was over.
The fourteen individuals were identified by some of the viewers as people that had gone missing in the past week. The camera then turned to the saviors as they finished letting down the victims from their nooses. This was their message:
“We're here now. We're going to stay for as long as we are needed. We're not mutants crusading to save our kind. We're not mutant sympathizers trying to save our world from the conspiracy of an impending war. We're your new Avengers. We're not here to avenge the earth, though. We're here to avenge the people. At least the innocent ones. The justice system is flawed. Too many dirty authorities hold the power and put away innocent lives for personal gain. We are not so easily bribed. We don't care if you're a human. We don't care if you're a mutant. We don't care if you're an alien or a being of mythology and bedtime stories. If you're innocent, you're safe. If you're not quite so innocent...you should really start working on that will. Of course, we are modern people. We believe that the punishment should fit the crime. You don't like it? Tough. Its a vigilante thing – We live by our own laws. And we're doing this to keep you safe. You pray for it every day. For someone. Anyone. To step forward and at least try to make right the wrongs in the world. If you need us – Just call out our name. We'll be there. After decades of reading your comic books and whatnot, your wish has been granted. The era of the evolved ones has begun.”
The masked and costumed individuals took turns speaking as they posed almost as though for a group photo before speaking as one:
“Our time has come
Our era has begun
When the Elders grow old and jaded
We rise to the fight
Defenders of right
When innocent eyes fill with tears and pain
Who you are
What you are
It doesn't matter, evil will fail
We will come for you
We will end you
Justice is our goal as we defend the innocent lives
We are The Pack
We keep the order
We never back down and we won't quit”
Of course there were mixed reactions about it once more. There were some that rejoiced while others were outraged. Whether they liked it or not, The Pack. was there to stay as they promised. Over the next few weeks they had gained many enemies and even more fans as a few of them would appear at a time to save the day; Stopped four bank robberies, turned in twenty-seven muggers, busted two drug cartels, and even rescued a few kitties from trees. They left a number of unanswered questions in their wake: Who are they under those masks? Will they be stopped? Did they have an ulterior motive? How did the Avengers feel about these new whippersnappers and would they do anything about them? What about the Fantastic Four? Surely Spiderman had something to say!
Long story short? After several events transpired and earth has been put on edge, a group has stepped up to the plate. Think of it as street justice. Nobody knows who they are or where they can be found. A lot of people are happy about the group. Others are pissed. Some just don't give a fuck. These people are pretty much like every superhero and superhero group shoved into one secret base. They're younger, stronger, faster, smarter, and have a larger variety of creatures. Now, I'm working on a new CS skeleton so for now you can simply express interest here and ask whatever questions you'd like.
