The Battle of the Atlantic
You are the commander of a German U-boat of the Kriegsmarine during WWII. You and your fellow U-boat Captains have set sail out of the Port of Brest enroute for the "Sweet Spot" of the North Atlantic, south of Greenland. This is where the pickings are ripe. It is too far from Canada or the UK for land based aircraft to find you. This is the place where Allied shipping is at its ripest. Not until later in 1942 will there be complete coverage by land based bombers carrying depth charges capable of engaging submarines near the surface.
This is not a roleplay in the traditional sense. This is more of a war game which is in a sense, a role play, since you will be playing the role of a U-boat Captain. As long as two or more interested persons elect to join this RP/war game as U-boat commanders, I will act as the gaming mechanism in deciding the outcomes of situations. I will also plot the location of vessels on a map. Assisting me in determining outcomes to contacts at sea will be an Avalon Hill historical simulation war game known as Submarine.
I have designed this RP to facilitate the actions of German U-boats in the North Atlantic in the spring/summer of 1942 when convoy traffic between USA, Canada and the UK was heavy. There will be British, Canadian and American escorts mixed in with the freighters, but the focus is on the German Wolfpack. You can RP as commander of a British Destroyer Escort if you wish, but as I have stated the focus of this RP is on die Unterwasserbooten, nichts diesen Zerstöreren [Trans.: the Submarines, not the Destroyers].
