The Odyssey Tournament
In the year 100 B.C., an expedition party each from Greece and Rome seek out the island city of Atlantis. Both journey under express orders from their respective leaders to gain the technological wonders of Atlantis before the other does. However, the Atlanteans saw that all their gift of technology would achieve would be to bring about a great war between the nations. The King of Atlantis outright refused both peoples and banished them from the city.
The two groups could not very well go back empty handed, and so they individually set upon raiding Atlantis to take their technology by force. By the end of the battle, both the Greeks and Romans had banded together to steal the Atlanteans' advanced technology, and prevailed in overpowering the city. Upon return, stories were told of the successful venture, and because of their cooperation, the technology was not put to use in war after all. Instead, Greece and Rome created a festival around it, celebrating the new wonders brought to their culture. At the turn of every season, teams from both sides representing their pantheon of gods would take their inventions to compete in lively tournaments.
Fifty years later, the Atlanteans have fully recovered from the devastation. They join the audience, unnoticed...
Hey guys !
So, I promised to make an RP for my younger sister who is new to roleplaying, but not to writing. I incorporated some elements she wanted (Greek and Roman mythology, uh, youngsters *cough*).
It may get a bit silly at times, I've no intent to make it too serious. Contradictions with historical occurrences or established mythology are not going to be a main concern.
This is going to be in a system that is a bit different from the RP's I've done; the tournaments will be separated into challenges with varying number of participants, depending on the challenge. Think the 'Triwizard Tournament' from Harry Potter, or the Olympic Games. I will pick the members from each pantheon (the event coordinator NPCs will pick IC) that will participate in the different challenges. This will allow for rest periods for some characters, who can explore the area and recuperate. The tournaments last anywhere from two weeks to one month in March, June, September, and December.
Team members will each be a disciple of their pantheon's gods, and so their inventions will represent their powers. I will only accept characters themed from the major gods, none that are obscure or are primordial.
We shall begin the RP in the Autumn tournament, September of 150 B.C.
The Odyssey Tournament
The Tournament is held in sets of challenges throughout the year in the months of September, December, March, and June. At the end of June, a great celebration is held for the team with the most points, and often the festivities last for the whole summer.
All events are arranged by the Tournament Council, headed by Titus of Rome and Tryphosa of Greece. Both originally lead the raiding parties on Atlantis.
Announcemnts, ceremonies, and some challenges, are held in Metroikos, an incredibly large colosseum-like building that sits on a parcel of unclaimed land.
'Incarnate' is an informal name that the people have given to those that represent the gods in the Tournament. The technological powers that Incarnates use make them seem like vessels to their god. Disciples must train hard at their temples to become an Incarnate and participate in the Tournament. They range from 13 to 18 years of age.
