Name: Jay Vanan
Power/Abilities: Jay is infused with the power of an ancient Wyvern. This creature, while sealed away within his body, lends Jay it's incredible power. The power of the Wyvern, when released through Jay, often takes the appearance of purple lightning. The deep violet sparks can be released from any point on Jay's body, but the most common points are his hands. The Wyvern's energy can be wielded in a variety of ways. It can be cast forward, like a bolt of lightning, or it can be charged around Jay's fist, as a sort of melee attack. In other situations, the energy can be shaped into a variety of different forms, including forcefields, beams, and orbs. Though a powerful weapon, extended use of the Wyvern's energy will sap Jay of his physical strength, wearing him down quickly.
Weapons: Jay's primary weapon is a wakizashi of roughly twenty-five inches in length. The blade is a family heirloom, and has been passed down through many generations of his family. The glittering single-edged blade of the weapon is about eighteen inches long with a slight curve. The blade is crafted of the hardest of steels and sharpened to perfection. The hilt of the blade is wrapped in fine black silk, with an ornately engraved guard and pommel. The guard is circular and is engraved with an image of an army encircled by a wyvern. This is to symbolize the Vanan clan's reliance upon the power of their ancient ally. Two sapphires are set on the guard on either side of the blade. The weapon is light, allowing Jay to use it with great speed and accuracy, making it not only beautiful, but deadly as well. The sheath is made of wood and steel, wrapped in black silk and hangs horizontally on the back of Jay's waist.
In addition to his primary weapon, Jay carries a variety of utility items. He has multiple throwing knives, that can also be used in survival situations. They are single edge, with deep curves in the blades. There is no wrapping on the hilt, only unsharpened steel. This is to make the weapons lighter and easier to throw. Jay also carries a variety of different types of explosives, including standard demolition charges, incendiary charges, and smoke bombs. These weapons function in the way that a standard grenade does: a pin is pulled and the device must be thrown within a few seconds or it will explode. Jay's other equipment includes rope, a first aid kit, and a canteen.
Appearance: At first glance, Jay is a tall, slim boy. He is 6'2, and roughly 170 pounds. He has long, strong limbs and wide shoulders. His skin bears a slight tan from spending most of his life by the sea. His body is mostly lean muscle, allowing him to move quickly and strike with force, without weighing himself down. Jay's eyes are a piercing sapphire blue, and seem to peer into the very soul of anyone his gaze falls upon. Jay also has medium length golden blond hair with long bangs that are parted to one side of his face. His hair gets progressively shorter and mildly spiky towards the back. Another striking physical characteristic is the deep violet tattoo on Jay's right hand. The tattoo portrays a Wyvern wrapping itself around the arm, with it's head resting upon the back of Jay's right hand. The winged snake like body of the Wyvern constricts the arm, ending just below Jay's elbow.
Jay wears a thick, almost regal cloak of a deep burgundy color. The cloak has gold buttons and appointments, with a small insignia of a Wyvern on the collar. The cloak hangs down to just above Jay's ankles and fastens with a row of buttons running up from below the waist to the top of the collar. The cloak bears a high collar, that if fully fastened would partially cover Jay's face. The interior of the cloak is furry and black, and is covered with pockets for carrying various pieces of equipment.
Beneath his cloak, Jay wears a flat black sleeveless uniform. The uniform includes a vest, covered with multiple pockets and pouches. The vest is made of a mix of fabrics that is supposedly incredibly resilient, giving it's wearer a bit of added defense in combat. On his waist, Jay wears a belt, outfitted with all of his weaponry. The uniform's pants are simple black denim that are tight fitting. These jeans are tucked into his black combat boots. The boots are made from an extremely durable material. The run halfway up Jay's calves and have a series of buckles on the front. On Jay's left wrist is a tight black wristband.
Personality: Jay is, in general, rather friendly and outgoing to others. However, having grown up as the trophy child of a notable clan, he has a mild superiority complex, though not necessarily a conscious one. He takes for the granted that he is as well known as he has been bred to believe, and isn't very well acquainted with the outside world. Despite his aristocratic shortcomings, Jay was not pampered, and his tremendous amount of training has instilled in him a strong sense of honor and loyalty, if nothing else.
Short History: The Vanan clan has long been regarded as one of the most powerful and well-respected families in the world. They are gifted with the ancient power of the Wyvern. Supposedly, this gift was granted to the family's oldest known ancestor by the ancient beast itself. Jay is the heir of the family and has been taught from an early age the ancient arts of the Vanan clan. His teachings included weapons training, martial arts, and use of the Wyvern's powers, as well as various scholastic subjects. Though trained a great deal by his family, he is being sent to the academy to further hone his talents. From birth, his goal in life was preached to him: as the heir of one of the most powerful clans in the world, he must uphold the honor of not only himself, but his entire family. He takes his vow of loyalty to his clan seriously, and strives to uphold his great responsibility at any cost.

One Classy Manatee
Name: Verse Takara
Age: 104 (appearance of mid twenties)
Abilities: Verse has the ability to produce and control concentrated radiation. This power allows her a myriad of different abilities. Firstly, she can use the radiation as a weapon. The radiation appears as a sickly-green flame, causing intense burns to anything it comes into direct contact with. The flame can be concentrated around Verse's hand, or projected towards an enemy in the form of a beam or an orb. Verse's powers can also be bent into a tool for medical purposes. The radiation, if used very precisely, can burn away infection and seal wounds, making it very useful in a battle situation. The final, and most obvious effect of Verse's power, is her inability to age. Despite her old age, the radiation flowing through her body seems to have halted her aging process completely. It is theorized that this power protects her from death by old age or natural causes.
Weapons: Verse is primarily a hand-to-hand combat user. She does, however, have a bit of an advantage over others in that combat style however, as three of her four limbs are mechanical. Having lost both of her legs and one arm in combat, the wonders of modern technology blessed her with three new appendages. These new limbs, however, are far superior to her old flesh-and-bone limbs. Being made of the most resilient metals and composites, the can withstand far more than a human could ever hope to block. The limbs also allow her great strength, making her a force to be reckoned with, regardless of her opponents armament.
Appearance: Verse is a strong-battle hardened woman. She stands at about 5'9 and weighs in the neighborhood of 130 pounds. As evidence of her violent past, Verse carries many battle scars. The most pronounced of these scars crosses her left eye and falls down against her high cheek bone. She has a pale complexion, though she still appears somewhat healthy. The most immediately visually shocking physical feature Verse carries is her flowing neon green hair. Her bangs are swept to one side in the front, partially covering her right eye. The sides of her hair flow down to her shoulders, as does the back of her hair, which she keeps in a tight ponytail. While Verse's hair may appear mildly shocking, closer inspection reveals a slightly more out-of-the-ordinary detail. Three of Verse's four limbs are mechanical. Both of her legs, as well as her left arm, are constructed of a mix of high-quality metals and polymers. The limbs are a gunmetal grey color, and would be an immediate eye-catcher, were they not often covered by clothing. Verse's final physical characteristic is her eyes. They seem to sparkle with a myriad of colors, a rainbow of sorts. This unnatural color could be attributed to her encounter with nuclear materials.
Verse's attire is fitting for a headmistress. She regularly sports a long, flowing white mantle. The elegant garment is made of the finest silk, and bears a hood, though it is rarely worn. The mantle bears no buttons or zippers, being fastened only by a golden chain near the neck of the garment. The mantle is that of the headmistress of Kinachi, a somewhat regal affair, and a fitting symbol for such a prestigious office. Beneath her mantle, verse wears a simple black kimono. There are no visible embellishments on the garment, in strict contrast with her ceremonial mantle. Verse's inner garment focuses more heavily on function than fashion, being light, comfortable, and allowing her ease of movement in a combat situation. Verse's footwear also seems to follow this purpose. Her shoes are simple and crafted from black canvas. Like her kimono, they are also comfortable and light, allowing her freedom of motion in combat.
Personality: Verse doesn't quite meet the strict formal requirements of her office. Though she is capable of presenting these qualities in a public setting, in private she tends to be rather short-tempered and a bit impatient. This is likely a trait carried over from her long years as a mercenary. That being said, she cares deeply about her students, and would lay down her life for them. She has a strong sense of honor, and will do anything she can to uphold Kinachi's namesake. Outside of her duties as headmistress, Verse can appear kind and caring, especially for her students, however, her patience is thin, and her rage is not out of the reach of anyone, including any unlucky student who pushes Kinachi's headmistress too far.
Short History: Unlike many Gifted, who are either born with their powers or develop them at an early age, Verse gained her supernatural abilities in her early twenties. It was a time of intense war, and civilians often fell into the grim statistic of collateral damage. Verse's city was no exception. Early one morning, her city was hit by a tactical nuclear strike. The city was reduced to rubble, and it's entire population laid to waste. That is, except one young woman. A gene in Verse's body allowed her to not only survive the blast, but absorb it. This absorption of such a power altered her cellular structure, allowing her to produce nuclear power on a whim, and ending any chance of normal human aging.
With no one to guide her, Verse set out to make use of her powers on her own. She spent many years working as a mercenary, and so learned quickly the art of combat. Her struggles were not easy, however, and she was injured multiple times. Through the course of her endeavors, Verse lost three limbs, and came close to death on multiple occasions. It was while recuperating from one such incident that she was visited by a monk. The old man told Verse of his brotherhood, and their ancient tradition of training Gifted students to exercise control over not only their powers, but their will and spirit as well. The brotherhood has by that point grown into an academy, one known for training the most promising young Gifted the world had ever seen.
Verse developed a strong respect for the man, and thus departed with him to learn the ways of his brotherhood. She trained with him for many years at the academy, built on the solitary island of Kinachi. She mastered the arts and gained a complete control over her powers that was second to very few. Being her master's most promising pupil, Verse was recommended by the monk to begin training as Kinachi's new leader, as the brotherhood of monks all grew very old. Verse's unnatural lack of aging made her a perfect candidate to be able to lead young Gifted for years to come. As the brotherhood shrank in numbers, Verse was appointed to her position as headmistress by her master, as he and the remaining monks left on their final journey in their old age. It is for this reason that Verse takes her position so seriously. It was entrusted to her by the man that gave her life purpose. Her goal in life became the same as his: to bring that purpose to young students, and show them a true meaning in life, like their master found before them.

One Classy Manatee
Name: Serenity Ponds
Abilities/Powers: Serenity has the ability to manipulate sound and bend sound waves in a variety of ways. Firstly, given the fact that she is completely blind, her primary method of finding her was around is a sort of echolocation. She sends out a sound, unheard by human ears, that bounces off of her surroundings and allows her a near-perfect view of her environment. This ability makes her awareness equal to, if not greater than, an individual with a sense of sight.
Outside of basic survival, Serenity can also bend sound waves to assist her in various other situations. She can use the vibrations of sound as both physical and mental weapons. As a physical strike, the quickly vibrating air particles of high frequency sound waves can form an armament of weapons equal to any warrior. These attacks could include anything from an invisible blade of vibrating particles to a pulse of high frequency sound capable of crushing stones or causing major internal damage. As a mental weapon, Serenity can use sound to create illusions, altering the moods of those around her. She can use various frequencies to inspire panic, or to lull potential assailants to sleep.
Weapons: Serenity's only real weapon is her manipulation of sound. She is physically quite weak, and is not well-versed in the art of armed combat.
Appearance: Serenity is by all accounts tiny. She is barely five feet tall, and probably in the ball park of ninety pounds. Her petite frame appears very frail, and her porcelain-white skin gives her an appearance perhaps reminiscent of ancient tales of nymphs or fairies. Her pale blonde, almost white hair also gives her a supernatural look, flowing gracefully past her shoulders and roughly halfway down her back. Her long, straight hair is parted neatly, with her bangs being gracefully brushed to one side. She also has cloudy eyes of a dark grey color, similar to that of a storm cloud, but these are covered by a simple, dark grey blindfold, as Serenity was born without the gift of sight.
Serenity's garments are simple and comfortable, but somehow still fitting of her pixie-like nature. She wears a flowing silvery gray robe with long, billowing sleeves that seem to consume her tiny hands. The robe reaches to just above her ankles, revealing just a sliver of snow white skin. Around her waist she wears a cloth belt of a similar color to her blindfold. It is tied in a a large, elegant bow that rests on her right hip. Her small feet are clad in basic wooden sandals, although when outside she often prefers to venture about in the grass barefoot.
Personality: Serenity is whimsical and kind. She is an eternal optimist, always searching for the positive attributes of a situation, even under the most grim of circumstances. She has a very dreamy disposition, and often wonders about, thoroughly enjoying the calm of nature. Here carefree, positive nature stands in stark contrast to her brother, who guards her every step and maintains a grave seriousness.
Short History: Serenity and her brother Daz were both created as genetic experiments by their father, Dr. Vincent Ponds. Even before their births, they were subjected to a variety of harsh chemical and radioactive treatments and modifications. Their mother, Mary Ponds was her husband's unquestioning assistant, constantly assured that her children were going to be “shining examples of the future of humanity.” This speech continued even after Daz was born, obviously meant to be a living weapon. Serenity was born three years after her brother, her mother dying during child birth.
She remained a captive test subject of the doctor's until the age of six. It was at that point that an enraged Daz slew the doctor after watching him perform a series of particularly painful tests on his younger sister. From that moment forward, the pair roamed the world, a young girl and her fierce protector. The siblings survived on the streets, only living off of what they could gather or steal. In their travels, they learned of an academy across the sea, an academy where people endowed with special “gifts” were welcome, and so they set out to find this refuge, thus ultimately finding their way to Kinachi Academy.

Name: Daz Ponds
Abilities: Daz was designed by his father as a human chimera. He shares many characteristics with the mythical beast for this reason. His abilities are all extremely combat-centric, as he was intended from birth to be a weapon. His first and most commonly used power is his ability to extend razor sharp claws from his finger tips. These claws are essentially extensions of the bones in his fingers that protrude slightly through his flesh. In combat, these claws extend further, allowing Daz a much longer reach, and making his sickle-like appendages that much more deadly.
Daz's second ability is also one held by the mythical beast: the ability to breathe fire. Daz can exhale intense flames from his mouth without harming his internal organs, however, his external body is only slightly more resistant to fire than a normal human's.
Daz's third similarity to the ancient creature he is based upon is the venom-filled fangs in his mouth. Daz possesses unusually long canines that, upon entering an enemy's flesh, inject a deadly neurotoxin into the target's blood stream. Because of the multiple animal genes used to modify Daz's body, he also possesses enhanced primal instincts in combat, boosting his speed, strength, and overall prowess in battle.
Weapons: Daz's only weapons are his claws and fangs. His claws, when fully extended, are each about fifteen inches long, and have a hardness comparable to that of steel. His fangs are a great deal longer than average human canines, and function like a venomous snake's fangs. The two fangs act like hypodermic needles, emptying their toxic contents into whatever unlucky individual Daz happens to bite.
Appearance: Daz carries and appearance just as fierce as his nature. He is about six feet tall and muscular, though not overly so. He probably weighs in the neighborhood of 190 pounds, with nearly all of his weight being muscle. Daz has a pale complexion, similar to that of his sister, but unlike her snow white skin, his complexion gives him an almost sickly, ghostly appearance. His body is physically battered and covered in a multitude of scars. The deepest of the aforementioned scars cover both of his arms, running up nearly the entire course of each arm. These remnants of deep wounds were caused by multiple accidents in the course of learning how to use his claws correctly. It is clear from the series of unsightly canyons lining his arms that this what not an easy feat. Daz also carries some burn scarring around his mouth, likely from early uses of his fiery breath.
The physical signs of Daz's genetic makeup are rather obvious, even from a small distance. The most obvious of these telling signs would be the small horns protruding through his mid-length roughly-tousled violet hair. The horns are small, barely an inch in length, but they are not easily hidden. The next telling sign of Daz's nature would be the long white 'fingernails' protruding from his fingertips. These nails are actually made of heavily fortified and altered bone, and extend in battle to his trademark claws. Daz's mouth bears yet another clue to his altered state. His unnaturally large canines protrude just barely through his lips, but they are noticeable upon any sort of close inspection. Daz's final animal-esque attributes are his eyes. They are a pale, harvest moon yellow, and bear the distinctive pupils of cat's eyes. These burning yellow flames peek through the mid-length purple hair that manages to slip down, just far enough to enter Daz's field of vision.
Daz's clothing is well-fit to his sojourning nature. His shirt is made of a thin, cool material, and is a deep blood-red color. The shirt is a bit tattered and oversized, concealing his hands(and thereby hiding his claws and scars) within the sleeves and hanging down to just above his knees. The neck portion of the shirt dips into a shallow v, revealing a small portion of Daz's chest. Around his neck, Daz wears a long necklace of onyx-colored beads. The accessory is visible through the dip in Daz's loose-fitting shirt. His legs are clad in simple black pants, and his feet bear simple wooden sandals, much like those of his younger sister.
Personality: Daz is either cold and grave or harsh and sarcastic to nearly everyone except for his sister, Serenity. Daz loves his sister dearly, and is fiercely protective of her. He will not hesitate to use violent force in her defense. Despite his compassion for his younger sister, he is still serious with her, especially in regards to her safety. He dislikes when she takes unnecessary risks, however his concerns are often undermined by her carefree and curious nature. The two siblings are polar opposites of each other: a dreamy, free-spirited young girl, and her fierce, hard-edged protector. Growing up as a 'freak' in a normal world took it's toll on Daz, and he has pent up rage from his past experiences. The release of this rage is one of the few things that can cause Daz to lose control, blinding his judgement.
Short History: The same as his sister's.

One Classy Manatee
Name: Catarina Octavia
Race Description: The Lyokians are the denizens of the eastern deserts and grasslands. They are an incredibly ambitious people, having built one of the largest, longest-standing empires in history.Despite having an extremely powerful army, they generally avoid resorting to force in foreign policy, instead using various incentives to assimilate surrounding countries into their empire. The Lyokians are well known for their trade in silk and precious metals, and have accumulated a considerable amount of wealth. They also are known for their mastery of medicine and their immunity to poisons.
Lyok's government is a primarily matriarchal monarchy. Though they have had male rulers in the past, these are few and far between, and a series of Empresses have ruled Lyok for the majority of it's existence. The Octavia dynasty has lasted well over a century without serious incident, and is, for the most part, well-liked by the people.
The people of Lyok revere snakes as holy creatures, and worship a being called the Eternal Serpent. They believe the deity, generally portrayed as a great winged snake, created all life. They believe that the serpent has a very real power and their every day lives, and many illustrious temples dot the landscape of Lyok and it's surrounding territories. Many Lyokians believe that their immunity to poison is a gift from the Eternal Serpent.
Appearance: Catarina's appearance is fitting for her station She has dark, tanned skin, and dazzling yellow eyes. She has silky black hair that flows well past her shoulders, decorated with shimmering ornaments of gold and a single braid on the left side of her head. She isn't terribly tall, standing roughy 5'6”, but her personality more than makes up for her slight size.
Catarina wears a fine robe of burgundy fabric, embroidered with valuable golden thread. The robe is obviously extremely expensive, an article of clothing worn only by those of aristocratic birth. The robe has long, billowing sleeves and hangs down past her knees. Her legs are clad in black hose. On each foot she wears a slipper made of fine leather dyed to match her robe. Around her neck she wears a golden amulet, decorated with numerous gems and engraved with the image of the Eternal Serpent.
Over her clothes, Catarina wears a long black cloak. The cloak is made of a soft, yet durable fabric, and lined with white fur. The cloak has a series of golden clasps along the front of it, and a warm hood that effectively protects her from the weather. The cloak was clearly made very carefully for the princess. Inside of the cloak, she carries a small, brass box containing medical supplies.
Weapons: Catarina's only weapon is an ornamental dagger kept at her hip. The hilt of the weapon is made of fine gold and is engraved with beautiful calligraphy and encrusted with fine gems. The seven inch blade of the weapon is made of a strange metal known only to the denizens of Lyok. The metal is as hard as steel, but is littered with microscopic pores. These pores soak in liquids, and are often filled with a reservoir of poison. Catarina's dagger has been soaked in a powerful immobilizing poison. It works quickly, and is capable of paralyzing a grown man for several hours. Despite her aristocratic class, Catarina has been trained in rudimentary combat, as does know how to use her weapon.
Personality: Catarina is a bold, proud young woman with a bit of a temper. She is rather well-spoken, with a strong air of self-confidence, but often comes off as pompous to others. Though she has a hard exterior, Catarina has a hidden layer of nervousness and self doubt that she tries desperately to mask. She also has a soft spot for children, as she cares deeply for her younger sister, and often projects this love onto others.
Short History: Catarina is the middle daughter of Empress Angelica Octavia of Lyok. She has an elder sister of twenty-six and a younger sister of eleven. Her eldest brother died before she was born. She was trained in medicine and educated within the palace walls, and traveled abroad on many occasions. As she grew older, she became more and more involved in the affairs of the kingdom, traveling as an ambassador to a number of neighboring countries.
Catarina was sent, guarded by a member of the Brass Hand, to Pomria to negotiate trade between the island nation and her homeland. The negotiations were expected to go off without a hitch, however, shortly after arriving in the country the fog appeared. In an attempt to escape the chaos that followed, she and her bodyguard fled south, searching desperately for an escape from the spreading fog.
Other: Catarina is highly trained in medicine, and is capable of healing a variety of sicknesses and injuries through the use of herbs, potions, and incantations.
Name: Herek Vaas
Race Description/History: The Taurans are a humanoid race native to the stoney mountains north of Lyok. They are recognized easily from the other races of the Lyokian empire by their silvery-gray hair and bright orange eyes. They are also known for their to ability to manipulate the shape of stone by merely touching it, making them excellent artisans and architects, as well as giving them a defensive edge in warfare. Taurans, especially soldiers, are usually extraordinarily strong, carrying heavy stone weapons into battle. Tauran society is made up of a number of tribal clans, all united under one Grand Chieftain.
The mountainous province of Taura was assimilated into the Lyokian empire in the earliest years of the Octavian dynasty. For roughly a century, they lived in peace with the empire, becoming wealthy architects through their stone working, as well as becoming heavily involved in the export of rare metals and gemstones. This peace was shattered by a rebellion incited by militant Tauran nationalists. The extremist Taurans waged a bloody war with the Lyokians, eventually being defeated roughly twenty years ago. Both sides suffered heavy losses. The number of Tauran men was decimated by the war, with many conspirators being executed even after the war. Though the Lyokians lost many soldiers in the conflict, their chief damage came in the loss of their prince. The Empress' oldest son was slain in the final battle of the war, a loss that has not been forgotten by the Lyokian people.
In the twenty years following the conflict, the Taurans have sought to repair their heavily damaged reputation. They are slowly regaining their former place in the Lyokian empire, though the general public still tends to look upon the mountain-dwellers with distrust.
Appearance: Herek is a tall, muscular, young man; standing roughly 6'3” and weighing in the vicinity of 205 pounds. His shoulders are broad, his arms strong but not overly thick. He has fierce, orange eyes and lightly tanned skin. His body is littered with a plethora of scars, a testament to the severity of his royal guard training. The most prominent of these scars runs across the side of his neck, a reminder of a close brush with death.
Herek has long, silver gray hair. The odd coloration is a common thread amongst full-blooded Taurans, a group that has shrunk considerably since their homeland's assimilation into the Lyokian Empire. Herek keeps the back of his hair in a tight, traditional braid that hangs down to his shoulders, while his bangs are cut shorter and parted near the center of his forehead.
As a member of Lyok's royal guard, Herek wears a long-sleeved shirt of chain mail, a defense that is fortified further by a vest of scale mail. The vest is constructed of a strange metal, having the coloration of brass but a strength greater than steel. Each of the scales is carefully engraved with blessings of strength, written in the decorative alphabet of the Lyokian people. The vest extends past Herek's waist protecting not only his torso, but also his groin and upper legs. As an extra means of defense, Herek's forearms are shielded by bracers made of the same brass-colored metal. These pieces of armor are rounded near the hands, but taper to a slight point towards the elbow. Like the vest of scale mail, the bracers are also adorned by Lyokian blessings.
Around his waist, Herek wears a thick leather belt, thoroughly covered in equipment such as utility knives, a tinderbox and flint, and a small flask of water. Herek's backup weapon, a shortsword, also hangs from this belt. Herek's pants are made of fine black linen, crafted specifically for the Lyokian guard. On each foot, Herek wears boots made of thick black leather, lined with chain mail. Herek's shoulders are protected by tight-fitting pauldrons similar in appearance to the rest of his armor. These pauldrons are adorned with an engraving of the Eternal Serpent, the symbol of the Ocatavian dynasty. Being that he is abroad, Herek does not wear the decorative snake-like helmet of the Lyokian Royal Guard.
Over his armor, Herek wears a thick black cloak that is lined with the gray fur of a Lyokian wolf. The cloak is bound by a brass brooch bearing the insignia of the Eternal Serpent. The cloak is also equipped with a hood to shield the wearer from the elements. A black cloth face mask is sometimes worn in conjunction with the cloak for riding. The mask covers the lower half of the wearers face. Herek's cloak was specifically made for his and Octavia's time in Pomria, as the climate is considerably colder than the arid desert of Lyok.
Weapons: Herek's primary weapon is a large two-handed sword that hangs in a simple wooden sheath on his back. The single-edged weapon, similar in appearance to a very large falchion, is constructed entirely from a single piece of stone. The stone is common among Tauran weaponry, as it allows them to manipulated the shape of the weapon if necessary. Many Taurans use their abilities to create their own weapons. The weapon bears a crescent shaped handguard embedded with black stones similar in appearance to obsidian. The handle of the weapon is wrapped in a thin layer of black cloth for added grip in battle. Overall, the weapon is roughly five feet long, though the length of the weapon can be adjusted using the Tauran ability of stone shaping.
Herek's secondary weapon is a double-edged shortsword. The blade is constructed of Lyokian steel and tapers to a sharp point. The guard and pommel of the weapon are made of the same brass-like metal as Herek's Lyokian armor, and the hilt is wrapped in black leather. The weapon is standard amongst Lyokian soldiers as a a backup weapons and is roughly two-and-a-half feet in length.
Personality: Herek is intensely loyal to the Octavia family for the position they granted him. He feels a certain guilt for the Tauran rebellion, despite having no part in it himself, and therefore constantly seeks to break the stereotype of his people being bloodthirsty and disloyal. He is very dedicated to his mission, often going above and beyond what is required of him. Despite this intensity, he manages to stay cool under pressure for the most part. With outsiders, he can be a bit paranoid, as he is exceptionally defensive of those he is assigned to protect.
Short History: Herek's father died in the Tauran rebellion before he was born, leaving his mother alone and pregnant with a son in the waning years of the conflict. When the fighting finally ended, she took her young son and fled to Lyok. Because the public opinion of Taurans was very low, she was forced to settle in the slums of the Lyokian capital of Veranthium. While there, the mother and her young son faced a great deal of persecution for their origins. Though this position of poverty was lackluster, Herek's mother thought it better to suffer in Lyok than risk another rebellion in Taura.
It was during this time that Herek made it his goal in life to change the Lyokian view of Taura. Watching his mother suffer in poverty inspired him to go against all precedent and enlist in the Lyokian royal guard at the age of twelve. His training was brutal, and he was often beaten by his alleged comrades. He eventually, however, managed to ascend into the ranks of the palace guard despite his racial origins. It was during this time that he finally made good on his promise. One night, an attempt was made on the royal family. Herek fairly nearly gave his life in his defense of the Empress and her daughters, receiving a very serious wound in the process. It was after this act of daring that Empress Angelica Octavia promoted him to the Brass Hand, the personal bodyguards of the Imperial family. The Empress proclaimed him a hero, and gave his mother a position in the palace at his request.
Herek was assigned with the defense of Princess Catarina Octavia for her trip to Pomria. The trip was supposed to be a purely political visit to set up trade between the two countries with little resistance expected, but these plans were dashed when the fog began to spread. In the chaos that followed, Herek took the princess and fled south in an attempt to keep her safe from whatever horror lurked within the haze.
Other: Like all Taurans, Herek is able to manipulate the shape and form of stone. This ability is translated through touch, so he must be in close proximity to the stone to shape it. The power is primarily used for defense, shielding the caster from attacks with a wall of rock. This ability has also been adapted for offense through the use of stone weaponry, which can be warped into a variety of shapes for different situations.
