Special Operations Group, Detachment Beta
ESS The Flying Dutchman, Earth orbit (Sol system)
Colonel Samuel "Kingpin" Lorenzo, commanding officer of the Ghosts of Orion, wasn't the least bit surprised when word reached him that a coordinated terrorist attack had left Earth's embassy in the Tau Ceti system in ruins. After all, he had been keeping close tabs on the more fanatical elements of the Separatists for some time now, and knew that a splinter group would eventually take action against the Earth Government. But what he hadn't known was who would claim responsibility for the attack, when it would take place, and what the intended target was. If the Earth Security Council hadn't ordered him to adopt a wait and see policy though, and allowed the deployment of his Ghosts, the Colonel felt confident that he could have found the right answers. That he could have stopped the attack wholesale. That he could have stopped the deaths of so many.
But that was in the past, and the Colonel didn't have the luxury of dwelling on what could've been. Instead, Lorenzo had to dedicate himself to stopping the next attack. To improve his chances of doing so, Lorenzo felt he needed to take certain measures to discourage other members of the Separatist movement from taking up arms. Consequently, Lorenzo felt he needed a second team of Ghosts that could instill terror into the enemies of the Earth Government. That he needed a team that could be as quick as they would be efficient. A team that could take the fight to the insurgents, that could deliver swift and sudden retribution to them. A team that could make the Ghosts become a thing of legend among his enemies, a sort of bogeyman in the night. And God willing, rumors of these bogeyman would circulate throughout human space, and following these rumors, whispers of desertion, doubt and fear between the insurgents.
The Colonel would designate this second detachment Beta, and while he selected it's members, had additional staff personnel begin to gather up what intelligence they had on Separatist strongholds and troop positions. Leading Beta's operatives would be Aideen Strauss Lewis, callsign Archanid, whose skillset practically outlined the team's activities. Following Aideen, and adding some essential muscle to the team, Mike Hays, callsign Dragon. After Mike Hays, complementing the team's abilities and offering Aideen solutions other than brute force, would be Andrei Levkova, callsign Kremlin. And lastly, given the chances of someone being seriously wounded during Beta's operations, Zachary Aurelius, callsign Angel, was added to the team as a direct result of his record as a man of medicine.
By the time each member of the team was notified of an upcoming operation, shuttled onboard the prototype stealth corvette The Flying Dutchman and brought up to speed, the Special Operations Support branch had a number of targets for the Ghosts to choose from. It just wasn't a wide number of targets, in fact, it was barely a few number of targets. But the Ghosts just didn't have a strong enough intelligence network yet to give them anything more than a few targets, an issue the Colonel decided he would have to soon remedy. Unfortunately, until then, Beta team would have to make due.
