Anwyl stood by the window to the tiny inn room he and his friend Viel had rented in one of the cheapest places they could find. One hour ago they two of them had ridden over the south bridge into Tar Valon city, a place that Anwyl had prayed he would never have to lay his eyes on. The young Borderlander glanced at the White Tower, even if the inn he and his friend had taken a room in was pleasantly located far from that cursed building the tower could still be seen, a spear of white in the center of the glorious island city.
"You don't think they are mistreating him up there do you Viel?"
Anwyl asked in a concerned tone of voice as he half turned both to glance at his friend and to make double sure the door to their little room was closed, it would not be good if anyone where to overhear this conversation.
"I mean I have heard the Reds can be brutal, but..."
The him Anwyl was referring to was his younger brother Narim who had been captured by Aes Sedai and brought to the Tower for trial and then...the Borderlander did not even what to think about the and then.
"I guess there is not that much use in speculating about it, we only have to get him out right? And also find out if the Aes Sedai have your brother, that should be an easier task though, it should not be that hard to look for rumors on whatever or not the Aes Sedai have brought in a male channeler from Tear the last few years, I mean mother said they found a two or three male channelers a year on average, so there should be plenty of rumors about all of them and..."
Anwyl realized he was blabbering and sigh.
"Sorry I...I am just worried and when I am worried I talk.."
The dark haired young man said as his eyes went to the tall, white building in the distance again, he did hope that Narim was alright, he desperately hoped that he was.
Doirann of the Red Ajah made her was down the stone steps leading the White Tower's dungeons, last night a young male channeler had been brought in and Doirann's name was on the list of those chosen to hold his shield. The top level cells of the Tower dungeons was the most comfortable ones, these where reserved for channelers, these cage like cells had real beds and they where dry and relatively warm, six of them there where, and all of them where made of open bar so a circle could sit on the outside watching the prisoner and holding his or her shield.
Only one of the cells was occupied this day, a young man in his early twenties sat on his bed and glanced nervously around. Doirann smiled to her six Sisters who was holding the male channeler shielded and she was quickly let into their link before control of it was handed over to her and the former leader of the circle, Cathinka was let out. Cathinka was more than tired after she had channeled all night and she gave her replacement a grateful nod before she hurried up the stairs to find her bed. Doirann sat down in the chair Cathinka had occupied a few moments earlier, the rough wood still warm from her Sister's body heat. The prisoner in the cell did not move but Doirann could feel that he was resisting the shield, he was probably hoping the change in leadership of the circle that was holding him would have weakened his spiritual prison.
"That will not work, you will only tire yourself out, now settle down Master Remadar."
Dourann said sternly but not unkindly, there was no reason to frighten the boy more.
"Have you eaten today Master Remadar, I hear you came late last night, I could send for food and drink if you are hungry, but you must calm down and stop fighting the shield, do you understand me?"
The Red said as she glanced into the cell to meet the captured channeler's almond shaped blue eyes.
