Content Rules Reminder
As some of you may have noticed we have lost our Advertisement revenue again. This means that the cost of maintaining this site comes out of the pocket of Mahz. We have long been a PG-13 website and as such any sexual situations as well as language both IC and OOC above the PG-13 level needs to be kept in PMs or preferably offsite. The rules have not changed, enforcement however, has been ramped up. There has been a purge of late as a result of this recent loss and some users may have noticed some missing posts or threads. If you see a post that you think is questionable, please report it for the Moderators to review. Let's all work together to make certain this website can continue to exist without being a burden to our beneficent leader.
Every now and then, a roleplay hits an achievement that roleplayers are proud of. Whether it is an anniversary, completion, or even something has simple as post count, they need to be celebrated. This week we have The Prophecy a RP over two years old and rapidly approaching its two year mark. It is GMed by Dark Jack and filled with some dedicated players, one of whom Shienvien provided the write up for the newsletter. Check it out and see what makes a successful RP that can stand the test of time. Congratulations to all involved, you inspire us.
The Nomad's Prophecy
Once there shall be a disaster like never before,
Which will shame the rich and crush the poor,
Because even with the Spirits on our side
Break, will the once-great Divide.
The land in the middle a curse will suffer,
That will turn father on son, sister on brother.
Lives will wither away and be gone,
A darkness will shatter all hope as we know,
In the lands of sand, in the lands of snow.
In the end, this evil will have spared none.
A new Age of Darkness will arrive,
And will try to mortals their freedom deprive,
Gods and demons, locked in eternal battle,
And mortals in the middle, the helpless cattle.
But amidst what is already bad,
There is a greater evil to be had.
The Foe will rise once more,
Step onto a world covered in gore.
Unless all unite against this beast,
He will upon the world return to feast.
Death it is, a being of madness,
Of power unmatched rage and sadness.
Pray, for fate will truly be grim,
The Foe will end this world on its whim.
During the past twelve years, a strange new disease has been ravaging the land of Rodoria, claiming both the good and the evil, the rich and the poor, those living within cities and the ones who have gone months without making contact with another intelligent being - without selection, logic, or visible pattern the condition commonly known as the Withering will infect people, covering their bodies in greyish, "withered" splotches and seemingly inevitably killing them in a matter of less than a week. It is a threat many seek cure to - a threat which might unite the very unlikeliest of people in the name of the common goal of ending it -, for no matter what one's alignment, beliefs or abilities are, no one seems protected, and with a quarter of the land's population having already succumbed to the disease, it seems like only a matter of time before no soul will be left to walk the land unless the spread of it is stopped. It is thusly no wonder that there can be found many an individual who for either greater good, out of self-preservation, for money and power, or out of some other personal or collective agenda has set out on a quest...
Even the most thread-thin leads are followed - stories of miraculous recoverings near the Anaxim Forest, both vague and solid suspicions of the plague's magical nature... Yet, while some progress has been made, a true breakthrough has yet to occur, and while the Withering does its work, the land seems to fall further into darkness. Amongst the many claimed by the vile disease were the last representatives of the royal bloodline descending from Roland the Ambitious, and hence Rodoria has been left without a central ruler. A council has been formed instead, but although they give their best to make life run as usual within the central duchy while they search for any possible distant remnants of the royal bloodline, this arrangement is heavily contested, and several of the nine other duchies seek to take over the rule of the land while some of the surrounding countries might also be keeping a keener than usual eye on the local happenings. Rodoria is in a state of civil war. The forces of law, already weakened by the thinning of lines accomplished by the Withering, are further drawn off to be ready to settle disputes between duchies, giving a way to other forces of kinds which otherwise would have no reign.
Criminals and dangerous beasts move about more freely and act more openly... The Crusader's Guild - an organization bent on eliminating all highly intelligent non-human life - has grown to several thousand strong and is effectively (and technically illegally) hunting down anyone they see as "impure", as well as killing anyone who might want to defend the nonhumans or who simply gets in their way... At this very moment, an army of theirs is in battle within the Forest of Anaxim, though not only in the name of exterminating the various forest-dwellers, but predominantly for other, no less sinister reasons. The duchy of Nemhim has also fallen under attack, but by hearsay it is not an army wreaking havoc in there, but a solitary being of unknown and powerful nature whose appearance the different accounts do not agree upon - the only constants seem to be its reddish-brown color and apparent unstoppability. The first survivors of the enigmatic onslaught have started to reach Zerul City, pouring past the city-gates and a young rune mage tasked with greeting one specific group of the aforementioned people seeking to end the Withering. The group under question, however, has - after many lesser encounters of greater or smaller importance - no less than incurred the wrath of the Blood God himself, and at this moment it is yet uncertain whether they would even make it that far...

The high fantasy roleplay The Prophecy is set in the world of Reniam, with the main story taking part in the land of Rodoria in the northern part of the continent of Kirirak. I'd dare say that more notable than the roleplay's long run and by this date rather high total count of both IC and OoC posts is the sheer extraordinary written-down complexity of the world the story takes place in - in fact, the amount of information on the world available eventually became too much for the opening post to contain and had to receive its own archive (to be browsed as the need comes or to pass time, not as mandatory reading for all to wish to join the RP). And, this is definitely one of the times where quality has not suffered over quantity - Dark Jack, the GM of the RP and the creator of the world, is definitely one of the people whose writings I personally have always enjoyed reading.
And, not only is the world extremely detailed, but Dark Jack has effectively succeeded in making the world feel real. No matter where the characters are or what they do, the world outside of their range of sight does not simply cease to exist or become inert; there is always something happening somewhere else - in the background, so to speak -, and what the characters decide to do or not do has a real, tangible impact on the happenings taking place around them - it can be an affair of small consequences, but it can also be a matter of preventing or bringing forth the destruction of the entire world. The consequences might always not be immediately apparent, but it is entirely possible they hear of their own deeds afterwards, or learn that the place they had decided not to go to had fallen under attack shortly after and has been destroyed... Furthermore, everyone has their free will - there is no predetermination, and everything is dynamic. While there is a definite central plotline and events that are bound to happen (unless the very actions of the characters negate those), the players are not strictly limited in what their characters can do or decide, and if they so wish, Dark Jack has also been allowing the players a rather great extent of freedom in creating their own events and side-plots. It adds a whole other dimension to the roleplay - a factor of unpredictability that is not limited to what the GM comes up with, if you wish (and Jack himself has not exactly disappointed as far as throwing things at the characters goes, either). You do not know what will happen next, since the players are essentially writing an entire new story along with the GM ... and it works. It truly does.
It has been the doing of both the GM and the players (some of whom have stated that the RP is one of the main reasons why they keep logging onto RPG each day), and one which I hope will endure for a long time still. I was also part of the RP's previous incarnation - and that one managed to essentially outlive entire roleplaying sites -, and perhaps needless to say, I was quite glad to see it take off again on here (...and by now it will soon be three years after that date; time flies). For those interested, the RP does still have some free spaces left, and new dedicated players are always welcomed.
Want to be featured for a RP Milestone? Take a look at your roleplay and see if it fits any of these criteria:
- It was recently completed.
- It has celebrated a year anniversary recently or will sometime in the next six months.
- The IC has recently hit it's 500th or 1,000th post mark. This can also be 1,500, 2,000, etc.
If your roleplay has reached any of these milestones, or if you think your roleplay has reached a certain achievement that is not listed, please don't hesitate to PM Lillian with the link to the roleplay and a description of the achievement. If you are not the GM, but wish to surprise the GM, that can also be arranged. Happy Roleplaying!
The Player's Voice
This issue's question is from Sokolniki who ran into a situation in a RP of his that brought up an interesting question he wanted to pose to our users. We only had one reply but hope it is of use to Sokolniki as well as others.
How do you feel about Timeflow manipulation magic/technology, both general effect and localized, in a roleplay? Do other GMs and players feel it may be too overpowered or anti-fun for the group? What other type of effects do people feel might be potentially dangerous to the fun or flow of a roleplay.
I've ran into and managed several RP's that could support a timeflow manipulation magic/technology. The main problem is that it can be easily abused in general. Even when it's balanced, you can easily notice how strong it can be in use. For example, people can use it to avoid death, wounds or such things. Even if it's balanced.
I myself have toyed often with the idea, often ending up with something that was really good to use, but had too little effect to even go for it. What good can such technology etc. do if doesn't really do what you want to do with it. It's just the problem that it's too versatile. For example.
If you could stop the time with a character for even just a few moments, then you have a gigantic advantage. You can try to dodge an attack or notice an attack from any blind spots. Not to mention that you can then finish an enemy, because you then can strike them down without giving them a chance to defend against it. True, that is what you should do in a combat situation. Giving no quarters to your enemies, but still. Against another player character it can give rise to arguments, which are bad. Maybe it's cool to have, but what good would it do if your character gets disliked? Or even worse :that you're getting disliked for it.
I used that example for a more fighting orientated RP, but even in a non fighting orientated RP it can be quite tricky. I can imagine that it can have more use in such a setting, but you then need to think how it doesn't effects the actions of other player characters. After all, people dislike it in general if their character is being forced into a situation that seems unfair in their eyes.
Best use of Time/Space manipulation is thus in agreement with other players, making rules about it and being harsh on the rules. If that is done, then it's probably time to think how to tackle the problems that I just summed up.
The Question for next week is: How do you encourage other players when you feel things are slowing?
Please PM your response to Lillian. Feel free to suggest questions as well!
Remember, the newsletter is about building community, inspiring others and connecting with people we might not run into otherwise. We'd love to open it up to some user content. Title: Life of dragons
So in this rp, you will be going through the life of a dragon basically. As a dragon, you must gather your hoard of treasure, gain minions as well, rule over kingdoms or burn them to the ground, challenge the might of other dragons, defeat groups of heroes who wish to slay you, the choice is yours, you are a mighty dragon after all.
So that is the basic concept, tell me what you all think, if you have any questions then feel free to ask.

Little did they know that on a solar system within the Milky way galaxy was harboring a deadly alien race. 1. With that there will large scales battle through-out the entire duration of this rolepaly and with that it will indeed slow down for those moments when characters bond.
2. There are going to be times where it would seem difficult to get over a certian obsticale or situation but there will be question on how to scale pass these problems and they will be suggestions and i will find out which suggestion serves the most logical way of going about the problem.
3. In the beginning of the roleplay there will be slow moments, but as i start it up it will be A character talking about the past and how events lead up to now [In the characters point of view]. Then we will see how it works out from the first post.
4.The battle mechanizm is going to be tough to choose, because this roleplay will span over 100 years, [given the occational speeding up on the time when nothing really big happens that i have planned].
5. If asked about the Battle Mechanizm, it will span from Ground forces to Air forces, [Even Naval!] and that will require a seperate character sheet, or if you want to stick to one force of the army that is also fine.
6. As for the forces of the human army, you have to be a soldier or any sort of soldier that helps out in the military that doesn't go on the field [like technology operator of something like that..]
7. If any question please contact me... and i will be happy to answer them to the best of my ability!
[Hope this gets the interest its deserves!]
Title: Pieces of 8 [Modern Day Dark Fantasy Adventure]
GM: AmongHeroes -Sir
gainst the backdrop of modern day, there is a world of darkness that plays out behind a drawn curtain of magic and mysticism. This world, filled with the figures of human folklore and nightmares is all too real however, despite its hidden nature. Few in the world of men truly realize its existence, and even fewer still can count themselves as a part of it.
Those that do breach the veil are met with a reality that is surprisingly similar to that of the mortal realm. There is love and hate, virtue and crime, commerce, vice, and opportunity. Vampires, werewolves, ghouls, shades, and demons; all manner of horror, and all living in a world that mirrors our own.
This hidden world of the impossible is where the members of the Bain & Hoyle Investigation and Recovery Company make their living. This unusual amalgamation of individuals is renown throughout the Veiled World as top in their field; if it needs to be recovered, repossessed, found, or even spirited away, Bain & Hoyle is the company to call.
That is where you come in. As an agent of Bain & Hoyle, you and your team will be tasked with carrying out the impossible, the improbable, and even the fantastic. Do you have what it takes to brave this bizarre and magical occupation?
his RP is intended to be a somewhat lighthearted and team-oriented adventure set in a modern day world with a dark, and fanciful twist. The world itself will be loosely set so that the players can create it as the story progresses. Also, players will be free to choose from almost any range of character they would like to play as; from vampires to reanimated skeletons, the possibilities are only limited by the imagination. As far as the plot, details will be given if there is enough interest, but to give you an idea, think Hellboy meets Indiana Jones, meets Ocean's 11.

Some of the Runes also hid from the war since they are too dangerous. While some became symbols for 7 continents of the new world. The new world finally given a name.
That name is 'Uno Mundus', which means one world.
It also decided that every species would be integrated into the society, and thus the "Cultural Exchange Between Species Bill" was created. Since then, the cultural. exchange program became a huge success helping many species integrate into human society. The technology went so advanced followed by thing that world used to think only as fantasy.

Title: The Legend Of Zelda: The White Triforce
There are many legends of which the people speak...
Before time began, before spirits and life existed...
Three golden goddesses descended upon the chaos that was Hyrule...
Din, the goddess of power... Nayru, the goddess of wisdom... Farore, the goddess of courage...
Din... With her strong flaming arms, she cultivated the land and created the red earth...
Nayru... Poured her wisdom onto the eath and gave the spirit of law to the world...
Farore... With her rich soul, produced all life forms who would uphold the law...
The three great goddesses, their labors completed, departed for the heavens,
And golden sacred triangles remained at the point where the goddesses left the world
Since then, the sacred triangles have become the basis of our world's providence
And the resting place of the triangles has become the Sacred Realm
Time passed, and the world grew restless. Those who would use the sacred triangles for their own ends became jealous, suspicious, and malicious. Blood was drawn and the people fell into madness and war. The goddesses commanded their servants to intervene-and intervene they did.
The tribes were separated and sent across the corners of the world. The Sacred Realm was sealed.
Ages passed again, and history was forgotten. Those who would use the power of the gods arose again. The goddesses, not wishing to destroy the world again, set out to solve this crisis in a gentler manner; and so the Hero Cycle was made. A single mortal hero would arise each time to protect the sacred triangles and save the people, each time drawing on the strength and legacy of all his predecessors to defeat the darkness. Each one a link in the timeless chain of the sacred trinity of villain, ruler and hero...
This is not one of those legends.
It is the year XXXXX HDS. (Hyrule Dating System) Hyrule, the ancient kingdom chosen by the gods, now an empire, leads the world in an age of freedom and prosperity. Trade and commerce has flourished and science and magic has grown in ways not even the primieval spirits would imagine. The Church has lost its stranglehold on society. A democratic Parliment has been established. General magic is available to almost all.
And yet the world is on the brink of war.
Rival nations quarell. Much of the world starves. Fanatical zealots commit murder in the streets. Wealthy merchants control the law and the poor are kept ignorant. There is speak of revolution.
Darkness spreads like a plague, infecting all with greed and malice.
There have been eight Heroes of the Cycle, each drawing on the might of one of the Nine Elements-Forest, Fire, Water, Wind, Spirit, Earth, Shadow, Light and Dark. Only the Hero of Darkness remains.
The Darkness has arrived.
