On December the sixteenth, 2083, the Earth and it's people were thrown into chaos, as a new element, unlike any of those on the period table, burst forth from the Earth's core in great, crystalline clumps.
On December twenty first, 2083, five days after this phenomena, Earthquakes began to spread world wide, leveling cities and flooding nations. Earth's inhabitants were in panic, and as the days went on, these disasters became more violent, and common.
On December twenty ninth, however, the disasters stopped...
December Thirtieth, 2083, a probe scanning the surface of the dwarf planet Pluto found traces of a substance similar (if not identical to) the new element that had formed on Earth upon its icy surface.
On November twelfth, 2087, Astronauts were dropped onto the planet's surface to investigate these readings.
Beneath the planet's ice, they discovered machinery unrecognized by the human race.
On January first of the following year (2088), these machines were extracted by a team of scientists, and put under high-clearance surveillance and testing.
They were recognized as alien technology, far beyond our reaches.
On January twelfth, 2088, the retrieved machines were dubbed "Mechas", and some were observed to resemble humanoids, and other earth based lifeforms.
It was this day that the discovery of these mechas was finally announced to the public.
On January thirtieth, 2088, another wave of destruction erupted forth from the Earth's core. Earthquakes reported to be between nine and ten on the Richter scale began to spread across the globe, volcano eruptions became apparent all around the equator, and the sea levels drastically rose and fell world wide.
The public began to demand action, on the part of their governments.
On February second that same year (2088), the mechas pertaining to "Project Pluto", the operation that involved extracting the machines to begin with, were moved to a private government location, known simply as "Zone X". Any personnel that worked there were ordered to keep the location private, under pain of death.
June twenty second, 2088, the first mecha is activated by humans. The pilot, Vanilla Stone, becomes a hero in the eyes of the public, the world over, and is heralded as the first human to understand the complexities of mecha technology.
On an undisclosed date during July of 2090, the government opted to use these alien machines for the purposes of mining the troublesome element that had appeared shortly before the discovery of what Pluto had been hiding.
It was eventually concluded that they ran on this element, which they now hypothesized was being produced by the Earth's core- although for what reason, they were still uncertain.
This element was dubbed "Element Omega."
On December first, 2093, Mechas were released to the public in a simpler, industrialized form.
The job industry boomed as mechas proved to provide quick, efficient and clean mining.
It was also discovered that small portions of Element Omega could be reused, after 'recharging' in UV light for an elongated period of time, making mechas energy efficient as well.
But on January thirtieth, 2100, a crisis occured.
The American economy collapsed under the demand for mecha research and development, and the rest of the western hemisphere followed in a similar fashion.
On February first, 2101, the mineral crises was announced.
Governments from every major country declared a shortage of naturally occurring minerals, such as copper and nickel, and announced that reserves for such materials were growing drastically thin.
On March sixteenth, 2102, scientists introduced Element Omega to the environment: The result was a new wave of elements science had never thought possible, and a sudden increase in natural deposits of rare and (previously) common metals.
On April first of the next year (2102), the economy is apparently resolved, and new, more efficient minerals (such as ProxyIron, a stronger, more plentiful alternative to the original), became available to the public.
The governments of the world agreed to share their minerals fairly amongst one another, and things such as "ProxyIron" later become known globally as just "Iron”, due to the undeniable similarity in their properties and appearance.
On March sixteenth, exactly two years later (2104), space travel in mechas becomes a sudden reality, following the results of a private experiment run by the Spanish government.
Explorers on Mars also discovered ruins leading to more advanced, combat-based mecha units, which sparked much concern in the global government.
On September sixth, 2107, after extensive research, the world government agrees to release these "combat mechas" for military use. War suddenly becomes a far, far more dangerous threat.
On April seventeenth of 2121, resources have, once again, worn thin.
Previously mined Element Omega seems to be losing its effectiveness with each recharge, and it has yet to re-form beneath the Earth's crust (A process that scientists hypothesize to take between ten and fifty years).
The economy once again falls into tatters, and different countries raise arms and declare war on one another.
At some undisclosed time and location in the year 2123, The Allies joined together. This contained the nations of America, Britain, Oceania, Germany, New Zealand, France, Italy, Turkey, Spain, Iceland, Norway, Northern Asia and many more smaller factions.
The governments of these countries all agreed to work with one another for mutual support, and became known as the "Paragon Axis."
At roughly the same time, however, nations such as Venezuela, Austria, South America, Brazil, Portugal, Greenland, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Cuba, Egypt, small factors of Southern Asia and Japan declared war on this 'Axis of Paragon', dubbing themselves "The Sovereign."
As their rampage for minerals continued- The Sovereign vowing to take from those weaker in a militant attempt to keep their own people afloat- neutral nations, such as Greece, fell victim to their invasive intents.
They, among many other smaller nations, were mined hollow.
In the year 2136, the Athenian Gears Project is activated: An attempt to spare the world of The Sovereign by taking the best and brightest and training them to become perfect soldiers.
In the year 2150, The Athenian Gears academy takes on its latest class.
Here in the year 2150, humanity has advanced far in its search for survival and superiority, but as a result, we have left the world in tatters.
With Element Omega, we have built a glorious new age, and just as quickly destroyed it.
However, its reserves are now beginning to slowly restore themselves, and with them, we are capable of doing so much.
We are helping the handicapped with advanced implants and augmentations.
We can travel great distances, and live into much older ages...
And occasionally, just occasionally, exposure to Element Omega through an open wound can cause certain people, and certain unborn children, to be born with physical abilities that far exceed their peers.
These are the guiding lights, of our war for peace...
The Athenian Gear's Academy was established late in the year 2136, as a secret project run by the British Government.
Hidden within the more mountainous areas of Northern Ireland, not too great a distance from the city of Belfast (if one happens to be travelling via mecha), the Academy takes children with higher IQs, higher phyiscal pain thresholds, and better reaction speeds, and trains them to become adepts at on-the-ground and mecha-based combat, in the hopes of one day taking The Sovereign by surprise, and quenching their fiery taste for minerals.
Ireland is one of the last remaining nations to remain almost untouched by the disastrous effects of Element Omega's arrival, and compared to much of the world, still remains quite rural...
No sane man would suspect the academies existence.

[Archives found - Opening...]
Recently, the Academies latest recruits- the class of 2150- or those of them that made it through training, that is, have recently been promoted from the rank of students to soldiers-in-training.
This marks six months that our students have maintained a good attitude and expressed talent that has made them valuable to the forces of the Paragon, and also six months that the academy has functioned ceaselessly to turn them into fine young soldiers.
Sadly, two staff members were discovered to be agents of the Sovereign, and dispatched by Professor-Commander Fox J. Grayson. A select few students were also taken from school grounds for misconduct, and returned to their countries of origin.
Those who have prospered however, and remained loyal and true, have earned their first rank in the Paragon military.
Soldiers-in-training at the Athenian Gears Academy are free to leave the school grounds and visit the nearby city of Belfast during the day and noon hours, and are free to stay the night if prior evidence of accommodations is provided Commander Fox, 2150's 'head of year'.
They are also officially recognized as members of the Paragon armed forces from their graduation assembly onwards. As such, should the Sovereign mount an attack on any nearby (or distant but unprotected) Paragon territory, the students are now applicable to be summoned to this area's defense, although only when inside of their Mecha.
They may also do so in pairs: A single student will not do. These pairs will become a regular occurrence throughout the rest of their school terms, so students should be careful in deciding who it is they partner with regularly.
(These pairs can be altered if one partner is unable to attend an emergency summons.)
The assembly commences on the morn of December 21st, 2150, at 10:00 sharp.

... closing program...
Congratulations soldier, because you are one of this academy's students or employees, here to learn from the best, or teach the future heroes of the Paragon alliance.
Your times here will be tough, and they will be long, but rest assured, in the end, it will all be worth it.
So, with that... let's get to work.
[Standard Mecha Pieces]
A standard mecha is equipped with the following technology:
- Communication devices.
A series of screens or auditory devices that allow communication between one Mecha and another, or any other form of broadcasting in range.
- A type alpha or beta control system.
Alpha control systems are identified by the use of a chair and manual controls in order to navigate and attack with a mecha.
Beta systems are identified by the necessity for a pilot to don a special suit and control their mecha through physical actions- this is only suggested for humanoid machines.
- A venting system
- A cooling system
- Standard bullet proof glass visors, and outer-cameras.
- Radar and tracking systems that work via 'echo location' and heat sensors.
- A basic VI that can communicate with its pilot, though it isn't sentient, despite its capacity to learn and simulate a personality.
- Emergency flares built into the mecha's limbs or various other body parts.
- Distress beacons, ready to be deployed at any given time.
MLMPATM - Multi-legged, multi-platform, all terrain mecha. These are generally designed with four fully opposable legs (QLMPATM), and often mirror the shape of insects and other animals.
BCAM - Bi-pedal combat attack mechas, designed for brutal strong-armed assaults, but slightly lacking in the defensive department.
BCDM - Bi-pedal combat defense mechas, designed for protection (often found through thick, metal plating, or shield-like platforms that can be mounted to the arms or chest). These mechas are great for protection, but lack the raw attack power of the BCAM.
BMPCM - The Bi-pedal multi-purpose combat mecha, this is a balanced machine, designed for both assault and attack. Though it isn't as powerful as the BCAM, or as well defended as the BCDM, it has the advantage of speed and flexibility over both.
ABAM - Aerial based assault mechas, these are air-based attack mechas often employed by the air force. Although they can be piloted on the ground, too, they generally remain in the air throughout combat, and have the advantage of mobility over most other types of mecha- they are, however, heavily hindered by weather conditions.
CDSBM - Colonist designed space based mechas, these mechas are often a unique blend of "alien" and human technology, usually found in various other parts of the solar system. They're usually balanced mechas, but have the advantage of being highly customizable, although this is often negated by their unreliability, as they’re prone to failure in stressful situations.
SBMPAM - Sea based multi platform assault mechas, are mechas that are designed to fight on both land and in the sea (although they tend to function about as well as a ground-based ABAM would when they're out of the ocean.)
They're the best for combating aerial based assaults, though, much like ABAMs, weather is a major concern for them.
Please fill in the following forms accordingly, as we need to keep track of our blossoming young soldiers and brave teachers alike.
Age: (17 - 24)

A brief description of appearance:
Years served in the military:
Any augmentations or implants:
Changes the character might have gone through in the past six months: (Optional)
(Warning, you can only have a maximum of five implants. Each implant will take away a point of your character's health, and you can't go below zero. The lower your health is (you've got 5, three being averagely healthy and 5 being spry as a spring), the more prone your character will be to illness, or wounds.)
[Augmentations and Implants]
Limb replacements - Higher strength in the replaced limb, and less energy consumption necessary for movement.
These augmentations are reserved only for involuntary/unavoidable amputees.
Eye implants - Better eye sight, and a camera function. This can also be used for numerous other menial purposes.
Ear implants - Better hearing, and mostly used by deaf or half-deaf people.
Health monitoring implant (eyes) - Measures the subject's health and state of mind, and provides updates when and if changes occur. It also includes an automated distress beacon for serious situations.
Communication implant - Instant communication with any form of radio or signal producer, such as another mecha or vehicle.
Hacker augmentation - Allows the user to hack basic and sometimes slightly more complex machinery. However, most technology is protected from this- it’s not particularly useful for bringing mechas down, but perhaps if there’s a troublesome door in the way…
Mechanical organ replacements - These are generally used by sicker people, and those with failing organs, and allow their user to hold their breath for longer, and sustain more damage before any irreversible conditions are dealt to the internal organs.
Thicker skin weaves - These provide more damage resistance before something breaks the skin, utilizing a very thin layer of ProxyIron.
Signal augmentation (Chest) - This augmentation will allow people to emit their own distress signals when in peril, and doubles as a mechanism to locate a lost mecha if it's outside of a standard signal range.
Shield emitters - A group of nodes built into the body that will provide a weak, but effective kinetic barrier, useful in the field for moving between cover.
VIs, or 'Virtual Intelligences', are built into near every mecha by default, although they can be switched from one machine to the other rather easily.
They can provide details on the enemy during battle, warn of incoming attacks from out of view, and offer advice based on previous experiences- They are considered by many to be indispensable tactical advantages.
Your VI can also be deactivated whenever you want, but it is permitted to reactive itself if the mecha they're attached to goes into a state of distress, as a failsafe mechanism.
Appearance (written description):
Weapons (Five weapons maximum, and please make them reasonable and semi-realistic):
VI name and a physical/mental description:
Much like augmentations and implants, there's a five-maximum limit to these. You may design unique parts for your mech but these parts can't provide too much of an upper hand (such as instantly destroying the other mech, or turning the machine invisible and hiding the heat signals at the same time). Use your imagination, although I may correct you if one of the ones you create is too powerful.
