| Overview |
In 1925, a polish-french scientist named Mishka Rietveld stumbled upon the discovery of a lifetime, a discovery that should of sent the world into a new age. Humanity was changing; the metagene had been discovered. Initially laughed at by their peers it wasn’t until nearly a decade later when their research became the fruit of a new project by the United States military as the nazi war machine ran rampant in Europe. A young man named Jonathan Janson becomes the central focus of a study of a military application and before young Janson realized—he was in the middle of war. Project Vanguard was born and after several associated victories that led up to the eventual fall of the Third Reich, Janson returned home; and what he returned to see disgusted him. He wasn’t the only one.
In the late nineteen-forties the rise of the superhero had been forged.
Fast forward to present day.
It is the time of social liberty and innocence; it is 1960. The world is on the verge of a new generation of which that has never been seen. The war hero, Valor, has composed himself a team of superheroes from several cities and created an initiative that he believed would eradicate the ripple effects of the Second World War—he created a Coalition of like-minded men and women to defend their morals by which they stand and in nearly a decade they have stood against poverty and crime. However, the ripple effects of this Coalition of Social Justice or CSJ now has started to tear through the world as specialized criminals look to hit them back with equal force. These criminals dubbing themselves in support groups such as the Instigators of Anarchy and the Carnival of Darkness. Such as these developments explode so does the watchful eye of big brother as the government establishes and extends a group of specialized agents to watch over the escalating issue of metahuman vigilantism and criminality with the organization MESA.
| The Goal |
Evolution is a collaborative narrative-based roleplay that I’ve had in development for a little while now and I’ve been thinking how I could forge it and develop it in a community-driven environment. I’m thinking that forging this in the style of the sandbox games of other Ultimate Comics titles (All-Star Marvel, Ultimate DC, Singular Universe, Infinite Crisis) is the best possible way to approach it and honestly while I’m on this superhero high I may as well get something productive done with the world.
I’m asking to create concepts with others who together we can forge something pretty cool as I’ve never gotten the chance to run Evolution as a co-op before (it’s always been absolutism).
Magic and “Gods” are probably the most defined by this worlds parameters so far, but honestly I’m leaving a lot to the imagination here. Players will have control of their character and their legacy NPCs they create as they would in an ultimate comics game; but I will most likely be roleplaying the more heavy hitters that are quoted above (unless somehow people want to develop one of the heroes I haven’t done so beyond namesake, but I doubt they’d want to).
For player creation I’d probably be looking at an extensive character sheet and this will be a low-advanced to high-casual game.
But the big thing with this interest check is to see who is all interested by the concept alone first.

The Old Gods
The Old Gods or the Children of Eden are characters based upon religious mythology who are a central and historical factor to the existence of metahumans and alien life. These gods are colonists from the planet of Eden and have been systematically hunted down in the earlier periods of earth history.
Members of the dominant species of the planet Eden are indistinguishable from humans in terms of their physiology and psychology; though their genetics are much different and more complex. The mixture of such high technology and an advanced metagene allows them to be looked at like gods by primitive cultures and as evidence in earth's past are so. Their "superpowers" are as diverse as they are powerful; ranging from applications of magic from the arcane stream, super strength, energy manipulation, flight, and so on.
Retreat from Eden
The Children of Eden were men and women from different regions of their principal empire who saw them as tools and subjects or enemies. Those who betrayed the empire took their ships to the far reaches of space and hid away on planet Earth, intent on making it their dominion safe from their former overlords. They influenced the primitive earthborn people and played "god" in genetic experiments, advanced educations, and other such things.
As their masters came upon them, many of the scientists of the Children of Eden resorted to techno-sorcery efforts to make a weapon to defeat them, many of the colonies tried this independently and eventually created the Artifacts of Avalon, which destroyed their creators and their test subjects while preserving their sentience. Whether it was their intent to immortalize themselves as weapons is unclear, but it is the story of many including Athena, Mictlantecuhtli, and Thor.
Magic & Astral Gateways
Earth is full of doors to every possible dimension of energies that are as varied as they are powerful. Astral Gateways constantly create rifts even when inactive that affect the flow of the world which traps spirits, demons, and all sorts of entities. If a gate opens and is channeled then the magnitude of the user's "spells" are increased to possibly infinite possibilities.
