A hundred and fifty years ago, American settlers decided that God himself had given them dominion over all the land, from sea to shining sea. They called it 'Manifest Destiny.' They began a relentless and unstoppable march over thousands of miles of rugged terrain -- rocky cliffs, barren deserts, whitewater rivers. They met proud natives, savage enemies, even European powers -- nothing could prevent them from taking all the valued territory their eyes could see.
Then they got to the Canadian border, and said "eh..... uh..... you guys can, uh..... you can keep it, we're good....."
