Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Adults
"From Education as the leading cause - The public character it's color draws."
Located in New Orleans, Louisiana, Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Adults is an academy of witchcraft in which young witches are enrolling in light of mysterious attacks that have been threatening their kind. It is here that they will learn to defend themselves. The Academy was built in 1790 as a private school for privileged girls but was turned into a military hospital in the Civil War. The Supreme witch, a witch who embodies more than one power, a prominent socialite back then, reclaimed the building and reinstated it as a school as a cover-up, but in reality turned it into a safe haven for young witches to learn and hone their powers. Due to several men and women of the bloodline choosing not to reproduce and continue the bloodline, the population dwindled from at most 60 in the academy, to the present of just a few attendants.
"On Wednesdays we wear black."
As the role player, you will be playing a novice witch between the ages of 16 to 21. Something happened with your character to make the Head Mistress seek them out and bring them to the Academy. Your character will have minimal knowledge of their heritage or abilities and what they are capable of becoming. Your character can be of witchcraft ancestry, Voodoo, Brujeria, etc. Here, they will learn the basis of witchcraft and learn to defend themselves against the bigots of the world. This isn't your average school roleplay. There won't be school bells, school supplies, and all that nonsense. This is a refruge mansion where they will learn everything they need to know, as well as have butlers and maids waiting hand and foot for them for all necessities. They will also be free to roam the French Quarters of New Orleans and see the city's heritage. This story is based off of American Horror Story: Coven and will have a very dark and Gothic feel to it. There will be conflict between those that practice witchcraft and those that practice Voodoo since their tribes have been going against each other for centuries. This is not Charmed or Harry Potter, but the real deal blood-letting Witchcraft. No fantasy bullshit.
Witches are humans with magical talent, and generally with the power to affect change by magical means ("Witchcraft"). Many escaped the Salem witch trials and sought refuge in New Orleans. Among the population of witches there is always, but one, Supreme witch per generation. As the witches settled in their new territory a rivalry between them and the native Voodoo practitioners arose. The feud is still on going in present day New Orleans. A group of witches are the focus of Coven, in which magic is a genetic heredity that connects a person to the elements and forces of nature in order to practice witchcraft.
A coven is a community or gathering of witches, a group of believers who gather together for ceremonies of worship, such as celebrating the Sabbaths and honoring the gods.
The origin of witchcraft remains a mystery, however it is known that witches have existed for many centuries, passing down their knowledge and skills through generations in family lines. Marie Laveau declared that the basis of witches was originally from Africa just like Voodoo and that witches are mere pretenders with gifts stolen long ago and introduced around the 1600's.
The Supreme Witch
The Supreme Witch, known more colloquially as simply The Supreme, is a worldwide recognized status among the witches descending from the Salem Witch Trials. While most witches possess only one or two gifts, the Supreme is said to embody multiple, if not all, gifts. Historically there is said to be only one Supreme per generation (approximately 30-50 years). As a new Supreme flowers and rises in power, the life force of the current regnant gradually fades, which manifests as multiple organ failures, diseases and cancer. There is no indication they serve a specified role on the Witches Council. The current Supreme is the Head Mistress or Miss Robichaux's Academy.
The Witches Council
The governing body of the witches. They are responsible for policing Witch crimes, the concealment of witchcraft to the uninitiated, and for embrace of potential students to Miss Robichaux's Academy. The current head of the Witches Council is Myrtle Snow.
Magic (Witchcraft) is the power to affect change by supernatural means. Magic can often be split into good and dark, though depending on the practitioner may also be neutral. Magic is a hereditary trait that connects a person to the elements and forces of nature in order to practice witchcraft. Besides their inherent gifts they are born with, witches have the ability to cast spells and make potions.
PLOT: Due to several men and women of the bloodline choosing not to reproduce and continue the bloodline, the population dwindled drastically. Young witches that are found are taken to the Academy to control their powers and blend into modern society. The current Supreme and Head Mistress is losing her powers and aging. With this, she knows a new Supreme is rising. With only a handful of witches left, she knows that the new Supreme is a novice that resides in the Academy. She plans to kill the new Supreme in order to keep her abilities just like she killed the Supreme before her to get hers. Meanwhile the war still wages on between Witchcraft and Voodoo. There is also a traitor in the Witches Council.
