"Was that really necessary?"
"What are you talking about Riff?"
"You know what I am talking about Zash..."
"No I actually don't..."
Zash was silent as he sat behind the table, to his right his partner Riff was slowly sipping on some Vosh as he had a solemn look in his eye's and also one that Zash knew meant the Anzati was annoyed about something. Looking around the Cantina it was a hot spot for spacers, Smugglers, Assassins, and even those that were running from the authority. Many times Zash had sat in this same booth, and Riff sat in the same place himself, for all their difference the one thing these unlikely sentient's held in common was force of habit. Normally people might believe that two sentient's like Zash and Anzati could never have any kind of friendship being where they both came from. Zash himself was born on a volcanic planet with poison gas, born into a world where the only real worth he had was being a warrior like his brothers before him. The Xeno's were a rather strong race of individuals, but the life style held no other purpose then to sit around day after day guarding a cave of crystals. The unusual part about this is that no one knew the cave existed, Zash believed that those with emotions might call that irony. That was the thing that Zash and Riff did not share in common, one of them had emotion while the other did not. Riff was born on a back water planet called Tatooine, from what Zash had seen it was a planet of nothing but sand and fearsome creatures, not that Zash feared them but then again that was also another emotion that he did not share. When Zash had found Riff he was but a child who had been trapped by creatures called Sand Man, a rather primitive lot, that were very much like the Xenos when it came to outsiders. It was hard to say why Zash felt any need to help the child, it is still a foreign thought to him until this day, Zash felt like it was emotion but he knew this was impossible. When he looked at it Zash just guessed he felt the need to save the child.
It was later after that when Zash found out the child was just an orphan, he had escaped his slaver and was heading into the desert when the sand people caught him and imprisoned him. An in thanks for saving his life the Aznati pledged his life to Zash and would protect him and accompany him until such a time when Zash was dead. Apparently it was Aznati culture to give such pledges to those who save the lives of their people. An through thin or worse Zash and Riff became friends, or at least that was the word Riff used, but once again the word came with an emotion and that was the Xenos down fall. Zash had taught Riff how to become a warrior and and expert Smugglers and in return Riff tried to teach Zash about emotions and what they meant and felt like. It was an ironic friendship but it served its purpose in the end.
"So are we just going to sit here an not talk about it?"
"Talk about what?"
"The way you just treated those people ten minutes ago..."
Zash watched that look cross Riff's face, the one he knew was coming, it meant he had done something wrong again emotion wise and he was about to get some kind of lecture about it.
"They were in our seat all I did was ask them to move."
"No... you threatened them with a blaster and said you would kill them if they did not move..."
"What is wrong with that? It worked just fine did it not?"
As Riff took another sip of the Vosh he put his hand to his head and shook his head as he messed with the tendrils on each side of his nostrils with his fingers. He almost seemed to sigh as he looked back at Zash.
"You remember when we were talking about manners and not scaring the hell out of others?"
"Yes I remember our conversation, you said to be polite and ask them to move."
"An what did you do in this case?"
"I pointed a gun at them and asked them politely to move or I would kill them."
"An you... found nothing wrong with this?"
"But I was polite to them?"
"You threatened to kill them!"
"But I was polite."
Zash watched as Riff reached across the table with his hand to most likely grab him across the throat and then hold onto it squeezing, Zash believed that this was some form of angry aggression, Zash just didn't get these emotions. However Riff retracted his hands as he put them back on the cup and finished the drink in one gulp and set the cup back on the table.
"Are all of your kin emotionless children or were you just the odd one out?"
"Was that an insult?"
"So should I get angry now and hit you?"
"I would love to see you get angry Zash, in fact I would run butt naked through this cantina shouting in celebration if you could even for a second be angry..."
"I feel like that was sarcasm, but just in case it was not sarcasm... why would you want to run butt naked through this cantina shouting in celebration?"
"Forget it Zash we will talk about it later."
Zash just nodded his head and picked up his glass and took a sip from it, drawing his attention to the door a pair of seemly dressed men walked in. They seemed to look around, Riff turned and looked as he shook his head and muttered something to himself. The two men looked around for a couple moments an then set their eye's on both Riff and Zash. Both of them walked over to the table, each one took a side and slowly bent down. They both had an angry expression or at least that was the look Riff got when Zash ruined his advances with a waitress the last time they were here. Zash still did not understand what he did wrong, all he asked was if Riff was trying to make sexual advances. Then Riff and himself got slapped an Riff squeezed his throat again. Looking at the two men through his helmet Zash said nothing as Riff turned an spoke.
"Can I help you gentleman?"
"Yeah a few civilians told us two goons came in here and threatened to kill them if they didn't move. This wouldn't happen to be you two would it?"
"Let me correct you, one goon threatened to kill them. An if it makes since that goon is an 8 foot child who doesn't know any better because he lacks any kind of emotion."
Riff just spoke as he twiddled with his glass like he did not have a care in the world. The two men seemed to look at each other for a couple minutes, each of them seemed to get this weird expression on their face as they both seemed to stare from Riff to Zash. It was like this for a time before the one on the left spoke up again.
"I don't know what kind of game you two are playing right now, but I am really getting tired of bantha fodder like you coming in here and stirring trouble all the time."
Zash heard the words bantha fodder as these two words were ringing a bell, Riff had used them both many times when he was insulting someone. An that meant that these two men were insulting them. Out of nowhere Zash moved quickly and brought his fist up driving it into the first mans face he fell back and and then the fist hit the seconds man face knocking them both out cold. Then before long Zash an Riff were running through the streets of Nar Shaddaa with similar dressed men chasing them.
"The one time you get it right! The one damn time you get it right! An you hit law enforcers you idiot!"
"That hurt my feelings."
"You don't have feelings you moron!"
"I know but it seemed like a good joke to make, you emotion feelers like jokes right?"
As Zash ran Riff started to laugh as they both headed for the star port to escape the hounds of justice that were on their ass.
