“Those branded with the Darksign will live forever. The branded are given eternal life, but most see it as a curse. One who is given the Darksign will be reborn after they die: forever brought back to life in a cycle of resurrection. As time goes on, and as life and death rotate endlessly: the one cursed with the Darksign will begin to lose themselves piece by piece. This process is called hollowing. The only thing that may keep an Undead from hollowing is holding on to faith and maintaining hope, for when an undead loses all hope, they lose their mind and become hollows...A fate worse than Death.”
Fire fades, and the world will inevitably return to an age of darkness.
In days long past, there were two plains of existence: The above and the below. The above was a plane of grey ruled by dragons eternal: tyrannical beings that saw all in the below as weaker and debase creatures.
One day though, the below found something: fire. Fire created disparity; light and dark, hot and cold, strong and weak. Soon, the beings of the below harnessed the flame and four great giants arose to wield the lord souls: powerful souls discovered at the fire. Three would become gods; Neto became a being of death, the witch of Izalith became a being of life and Gwyn became the lord of light. The three giants declared war on the dragons above whilst a forth being kept his portion of the flame a secret.
The dragons were immortal, and the war looked impossible to be won until one dragon betrayed his kin. Seath the Scaleless, who was born without the stone scales that made the dragons immortal, told the giants of the dragon’s weakness and soon the war for the above world: the surface world, was won and the majority of the dragons were wiped out.
After the war, the Age of Fire began in earnest and an epoch of peace and prosperity was ushered in by Gwyn. He forged great cities and birthed entire civilisations. He birthed armies and raised religions surrounding him and his children. Many great wonders and heroes were born in this time and even the last true dragon; Seath the Scaleless was made an ally of the light and gifted a piece of Gwyn’s own lord soul, as well as great honours and a dukedom. The giants of the once below were worshiped as heroes and god by humans, and so the story went, for a great many years.
But fire fades, and the world shall inevitably return to an age of darkness. Gwyn feared the return of the age of darkness, and he began a great many attempts at stopping the end of his age: He had the witch of Izalith attempt to recreate the lord soul, with disastrous results, he attempted to extend the age using bonfires, kindled on humanity and finally, he set out to the Kiln of the first flame, prepared to burn.
Skip now, to Lordran, and the place known as Firelink Shrine. With Gwyn having left the land, your small band of warriors, mages, clerics and thieves is alone and without true purpose. You are all unified by a few simple things; you are all humans, you are all undead and you all served Gwyn, in the years gone by.
Now, you have only one hope to follow, one thread of hope that keeps you from hollowing. A prophecy from Astora
“Thou who arte undead are Chosen, in thine exodus from the undead asylum, maketh pilgrimage to the land of ancient lords. When thou ringeth the bell of awakening, the fate of the undead: thou shalt know.”
Welcome to my little brain child. An RP based around the happenings of Dark Souls. I am your GM today and the man who will probably kill your character multiple times.
The concept of this RP sort of spawned from a little thought I had brewing for a while and is based around a small group of people attempting to fulfil the prophecy. Consider this an AU of the actual Dark Souls Canon, in which your characters will all be part of the undead prophecy and all have the potential to be the chosen undead.
I’m looking for 3-5 people to play this, depending on interest. If we lack numbers, I will play a main character, otherwise I will play out the DM role: pitting you against various foes who intend to kill you most viciously and repeatedly.
As this is an interest check: I’m not posting a character sheet yet. Would people prefer a systematic, stat based RP or would you just like to make characters?
