In the year 529, emperor Tiberius kent took the throne. This was a most auspicious occasion because Tiberius was the last of the God kings. A line dating back to the founding of the empire over 4 thousand years previous, it was the first of the God kings that had brought the country from the darkness. Now, so far removed from those early years of the empire it was to be the last of the God kings who would thrust them back.
It started as many things are wont to do, with a single action, a single word, and the word, was war. When the mongrels attacked from outside the empire Kent rode valiantly into the frey. Sword held high, battle hymn to his god ringing loudly from his mouth. No one doubted his victory. No one doubted his ability to protect the empire. If only they had known his victory was preordained, not by the whims and power of gods, but by the power of money. The power of the fortune he had paid to the outlaws and brigands to fake the attack, part one of his grand plan for the empire, and for the entire world.
After the attacks none in the empire would question the need to counter this barbarian force sitting outside the country just waiting for the next chance to catch them with their backs turned. Kent raised a magnificent army. Their first order of business was to chase the remaining forces that had attacked their beloved empire. When they had been found and eradicated, the kings ransom of gold and jewels was found. Kent was of course surprised to find suck a treasure trove, but far from the greedy pillagers who had of course stolen it and kept it from theirselves. Kent was nobel and put the welfare of his followers above his own. it was to be spread amongst his men, anyone who had died in the battle was to have double shares given to their surviving family members. Now with his army completely loyal to him and anyone knowledgable about his duplicity, now silanced permanantly, he was free to move on to his next step.
His scouts and runners came back, of course the force they had fought was just the early raiding party of a much larger force. They would have to leave the empire to root out the full force and destroy the evil that threatened the beloved empire. Little did they know this march was the last any of them would take willingly.
